Will the Detroit Tigers make any major moves at this year’s Winter Meetings?

The questions are supposed to be submitted in the chat.

Cracks me how many people put questions in the comments.

No
.
DreamGM, you have the only readily and quickly visible avatar/profile pic when sifting through many hundreds of comments. You would make a good AD man! Don Draper status..
YourDreamGM
That’s funny. I’m a consultant and usually one of my main priorities is to slash the advertising budget. We provide marketing and advertising though and I was a big part of a few ads. Don wouldn’t like it today. Companies are so careful. Especially the last 5 years.

I submit questions similar… They choose to answer the bees/beans questions instead.
gbs42
It’s a running gag that takes maybe 30 seconds…
Fever Pitch Guy
gbs – Honestly I don’t know why it’s still being discussed, unless I somehow missed it he hasn’t done it the past few chats.
I think it’s time for all of us to move on, I’ve enjoyed his recent chats.
Cubensis of Saturn
Thank you for telling everyone. no one cares what you want fever pitch.

Hey everybody! We have somebody here that’s brand new to the concept of “messageboards”!! ;O)
Dancers – Messageboards are a place where everyone is free to SHARE THEIR OPINION.
When somebody starts a sentence by writing “I think”, that is one sure-fire sign that what comes after it is …. wait for it …. an *OPINION*!!!
Now YOU, on the other hand, violated the Golden Rule by trying to speak for everyone when you claimed that “no one cares”.
Did you somehow, someway reach out to every single person who reads this site and ask them if they care? Mmmmm …. I’m guessing not.
Therefore it is quite rude and juvenile and ignorant of you to believe that you somehow represent everyone who reads this site and can speak for everyone who reads this site.
This concludes your lesson for the day, adios! ;O)

ROFLMAO love it when FPG puts mo rons in their place.

Jon Lester is not a comp for Carlos Rodon.
When the Cubs signed Lester he’d had 7 straight seasons of over 30 starts, with ERA primarily in the 3’s, one year in the 4’s, and one year in the 2’s.
Rodon had one year of over 30 start – last year. While his ERA was in the 2’s the past 2 years, the previous 6 years his ERA’s were primarily in the 4’s.
Asking a small market to team go over $30m a year for him seems a bit risky. His going Christian Yelich on a long-term contract could well scuttle much of what that rebuild has set-up…..along with the Guardians rebuild they’re the 2 best in MLB since the Astros and Cubs…..and with the way Epstein handled the Cubs by spending in free agency their contention window didn’t last long……the Astros did though (still going)…..and Mr. Elias was working for the Astros at the time.
Fever Pitch Guy
“it would seem like the Red Sox would want to adopt the Dodgers’ strategy of building from within”
Freeman $162M
Betts $365M
Bauer $102M
Taylor $60M
Yeah all homegrown talent there.
.
Fever Pitch, Bauer is gonna come back for us in a big way next season!

Trumbo – I had five really funny comebacks, but I self-censored them all. LOL
Lloyd Emerson
The stinkin’ Dodgers do have a great farm system, which allows them to build from within, and supplement their homegrown core with additional players via trade and free agency. There’s not a single team in the majors that is composed of only homegrown talent.
PhanaticDuck26
If you had read his entire response, you’d see that he said something about supplementing the homegrown core with big ticket FA signings.
Fever Pitch Guy
tongo – Why do you assume I didn’t read his entire response?
I saw what he wrote, it didn’t make sense. You don’t supplement (he actually used the term augment) with things that are much, much larger.
Here’s the proper way to use the term:
The 2004 Red Sox augmented their team by acquiring Dave Roberts.
The 2018 Red Sox augmented their team by acquiring Steve Pearce.
You can’t say the Dodgers current core is “homegrown” when three of their most important players came from other teams and were given nearly $600M combined by the Dodgers.
Cubensis of Saturn
You mean the 2018 Red Sox with JD Martinez, Chris Sale, and David Price?
what a joke
tstats
That’s 4/26 active players.
Mookie was traded for using that talent then extended.
Taylor was traded for as a minor leaguer (essentially) and then resigned as a free agent.
Freddie and Bauer signed in LA because of the young core (and aged core) that made the team a lot of money during 9(?) consecutive NL West championships?
Last year they also had Trea who was treaded (haha) for using young talent and Muncy/JT (aqquired as minor leaguers) and Trayce Thompson who was aqquired as a minor leaguer twice essentially.
The bullpen was built from cheap signings and Kimbrel/treinen and Graterol/vesia who were actually young talent aqquired for veterans. I can see how people say that the dodgers but away their problems but their money was made off the backs of a young core of Kershaw, Kemp, and Jansen. It all has stemmed from a combo of business savvy by ownership, amazing work by the front office, and the core performing to marketable standards.
Mi Casas es tu Casas
Wow embarrassing take dude 48 million in dead money for price and an mvp caliber player looking for at least 350 million and you think money had nothing to do with it I feel bad for your moms
tstats
Fair there most definitely was money involved that the red Sox werent willing to pay but there was young talent. Money was always going to be a factor, I didnt say it wasnt. Im just saying there is a big point to young talent for this team and for this organization,.
Jean Matrac
Betts and Taylor were both acquired through trade, and extended later. In the Betts trade the Dodgers took Price in a salary dump, and the Sox got Verdugo, and Downs, the Sox #11 prospect. So basically they were acquired by using homegrown talent capital. It’s not like they just spent money to sign them.

When he said met fans would probably be okay coming away w one of JV rodon or senga and then sign a Heaney type, my first thought, as a met fan, is that I would not be happy at all w senga and Heaney
Samuel
Ma4170;
I won’t go into it at length, but I think that Mr. Cohen is being played by baseball agents in ways that he’s never been played in finance. They recognize him as an owner that can be used to drive up the price for their clients. It’s obvious deGrom’s agents did that (The planted story about “All things being equal he’ll sign with the Mets” – kicked the Rangers owner / FO in the pants to pony up).
He’s going to have to radically overpay to get any free agent pitchers to sign with the Mets, but I don’t think many veterans that have other options particularly want to go there. However, having him in negotiations helps them get more money from the teams they’re open to playing for. I think this will be a frustrating offseason for Mets fans. To get needed pitching I can see them trading position players they have under contract, then overpaying free agent position players to replace them.
The Mets have to build a quality farm system ASAP.
BaseballisLife
Mets never made a formal offer to deGrom. Obviously he was not used to drive up the price since the Rangers were the only team bidding.
Samuel
BaseballisLife;
?
The Mets were talking with deGrom’s agents. You don’t think his agents were going back to the Texas people and telling them what he could get from the Mets?
Ma4170
Their farm is in good shape right now though, so they’ve made good progress on that end. They seem to be reluctant to let guys come up and play when they’re excelling, which is opposite of what the Braves do well. I feel this year they have to let baty and Álvarez play, go through tough stretches, and acclimate.
Agreed, it’s become very obvious he’s now a mechanism for guys like verlander to drive the price up. I do think the clubhouse seemed very positive last year and buck has had a good effect, but I could see all year degrom looked like a loner. Maybe he always did, but it stuck out last year. If Nimmo leaves that will be a big measuring stick.
VonPurpleHayes
I think they trade some farm pieces this year. They’re in win-now mode and desperately need 2 SPs, a bullpen outside of the closer, and ideally a power hitting OF. That’s a lot, and I think Cohen gets 90% of this via Free Agency, but the other 10% may come via trade.
Ma4170
I agree w you Von, though they’ve been stubborn in not wanting to do that, which is smart, but this really is win now mode. Most met fans disagree w me, but I don’t think Álvarez will be as good as they think, so I’d move him for a big player. Personally I’d put him as center of a deal for burnes. Or I’d move Ramírez mauricio and one of their higher ranked sp prospects for Reynolds. I think they’ll pay whatever it takes for ohtani next year in free agency anyway.

Black Christmas is better

Rocker, the original or the remake??
User 3663041837
Original still holds up while the remake feels a bit dated. Too much forced gore in the remake.

On what planet would the Dbacks trade Carroll for Moreno? Hazen clearly said he would not trade Carroll. Hazen clearly said he would not trade any of his 4 stud OF for prospects. I know this site is all about trading and rumors, but please deal with a little reality.

@TrumboJumbo (for some reason I can reply to you) I recommend Die Hard and Die Hard 2 for a holiday movie to watch.

Here’s a blockbuster trade proposal to discuss.
Dbacks trade Alek Thomas, Jake McCarthy and Christian Walker to the Marlins for Pablo Lopez, Juan Soto and Tanner Scott.

Lol the idea the Rays would trade Brandon Lowe right now is laughable. He’s getting expensive? Dude is signed to an extremely team friendly deal and his value has never been lower. What do the Rays need to add this off-season…..left handed hitting power hitters. Lowe represents the biggest asset the team needs to add this off-season. Makes zero sense. Affordable and fits the teams needs better than any other player. Wow.
