Free Agent Prediction Contest Leaderboard Now Available

By Tim Dierkes | November 30, 2023 at 8:51pm CDT

6,135 people submitted entries in MLBTR’s annual free agent prediction contest!  The contest leaderboard is now available.  Tom Diesman is currently in the lead with an impressive five correct picks for the seven top 50 free agents who have signed so far.  Tom’s lofty .714 contest batting average surely won’t last, but he’s off to a blazing start having nailed the destinations of Aaron Nola, Sonny Gray, Kenta Maeda, Reynaldo Lopez, and Nick Martinez.  Last year, Steve Sacks won the contest with a .295 average (13 of 44).

MLBTR’s Top 50 Free Agents list was originally published on November 6th.  You can check that out here.

So, was I the only person not privy to the fact that Gray was going to STL?

I had Gray there. 4/7 at the moment. But my ERod to the cardinals pick is gonna be a loser.

Lol and I had Justin turner to the Athletics. I can assure you that was a misclick.

But I’m all in now! Open your wallet Fisher!

I’m a Dodger fan. Please tell me if Tom D picked the Dodgers for Ohtani so I can start celebrating.

I think it’s a pretty safe assumption that he’s going to the Dodgers. Would love for it to be the Cubs, but I just can’t see why he’d go anywhere else. Winning? Check. West Coast? Check. Money? Check.

I thought Heyward was a layup. Kinda funny the guy in 1st didn’t have that one.

        1/7 Heyward.

I derive solace from predicting the Cardinals would sign three free agent pitchers. But I got all three wrong.

I’m ashamed to admit it, but I had Heyward going to the Royals. I figured that he could be a key veteran on a young team where he could still fill a need, and that the Dodgers would find another out of nowhere contributor for next to nothing rather than paying a few million to bring him back.

1/7 with Heyward being the one.

I’m 2/7 Heyward and Nola resigning with their teams are the only correct ones I’ve gotten so far

Lopez to the Braves, huh? Deserves to be in first for getting that one.

Would be cool if we could see the % of people who got each one correct.

If I end up 0/50, I should get a consolation prize.

I’ll console you with an imaginary hug. We’ll both be 0/50, so you be the left half of the zero, I’ll be the right.

I’m at .286 so far. If I can carry that thru, I’ll be pretty happy. But I need to hit on a couple of the low-end lottery tickets.
