Minor MLB Transactions: 11/25/23

By Nick Deeds | November 25, 2023 at 10:30pm CDT

The latest minor moves around the league…

  • The Red Sox have signed left-hander Jorge Benitez, according to a post on his personal Instagram account. Another post relayed by Benitez, from Ricardo Arroyo of Baseball Ahora, indicates the deal is a minor league contract that includes an invite to spring training. Benitez, 24, was a ninth-round pick by the Mariners in the 2017 draft and has spent his whole career with Seattle to this point. Benitez has not yet reached the majors, but posted strong numbers in Double-A last year with a 2.14 ERA and a 28.6% strikeout rate in 59 innings of work at the level. The addition of Benitez figures to add some left-handed depth to Boston’s bullpen, which currently sports Brennan Bernardino as its sole southpaw, though Joe Jacques represents another option already on the 40-man roster.

Thanks. I’ll add his name to my “All The Players In The Red Sox Organization” list. Book #3 in my MLB collection.

    Good for Boston!

This is an excellent job of acquiring a low cost asset that could pay dividends for the upcoming season.

Does ANYONE know why he was even let go in the first place?

Signed in 2017, means he is a six year free agent.

So far both Red Sox acquisitions this off season have been pitchers from the Mariners system. More boring and steady is fine.

Good depth pickup. But, the article shouldve mentioned that little BB problem he has. Benitez does come without any blemishs.

That’s a general real life rule. Always look for the stuff that ISN’T mentioned. That where to start your research.

“posted strong numbers in Double-A last year with a 2.14 ERA and a 28.6% strikeout rate ”

He had an 11.3 K9 which is very good, but hardly great.

But his BB9 was an awful 5.9. At best, his numbers were mediocre.

Last year at this time, so called Red Sox fans were screaming bloody murder about having Brasier and Ort on the 40-man roster. This year? Nothing, even though similar type players, such as Joe Jacques and Mauricio Llovera, occupy those 39th and 40th spots. Too funny.

Maybe because this is the start of the off season, Ort and Braiser were occuping spots when the season started

You dont think they were talked about until the start of the season? You must be new here.

As a life long Sox fan I can say that the types of Sox fans that make comments here are the most fickle of the bunch.

I was going to mention something similar. Last year, every AAA depth signing came with 200 comments.

The Sox need to sign big names. The fans want excitement. We would see if they would work out.But i am sure Breslow will look at the numbers to know what they will have as stats this year.Easier to manage if you know exactly what you are getting.
