Will the Padres fill the lf and cf holes? Meh, probably not. Cheap franchise.

How about Crononworth in left and pick up a first base man! Otherwise bring back Jankowski and/or Profar!! Taylor maybe for center

Jankowski and Profar? Really? Off the bench maybe, but as starters?! No

Tow…Honestly I have no idea how you can call them a cheap franchise. Were you a fan a dozen years ago when they were sporting 40m payrolls?

If you think Preller is going to sit on his hands and not address LF and CF, well, I would suggest not freaking until the offseason is done.

Honestly my biggest fear is he makes some crazy trades and land marquee cheapish (salary wise) players and give up a big package for someone like Randy Arozerena and move Merrill, Lesko and more to do so.

I hope we look for short term (i.e. non sexy) fixes and not trade any top 10 prospects. The only way they will ever catch up to the Dodgers if they can get to the point where each year they are graduating a future all-star or two and the way you do that is keeping your best talent and only trading what is redundant.

Oh, and your comment about them wishing they could trade Fernando Tatis Jr. makes me question how legit a fan you actually are. Dude is the most beloved player on the 2nd most attended team in MLB who had the 4th best selling Jersey in MLB… He’s making 11m this year… he’s probably easily generating 5x his salary in revenue. So no, I don’t think they wish they could trade their biggest draw… really poor and questionable take!!!

I’m a fan of the team but question the commitment of ownership to the team and the fans. Mainly that is why I don’t doubt they wouldn’t hesitate to trade Tatis.

I have been through multiple firesales with this team and this offseason has the makings of another.

Until they re-invest the money saved by trading Soto than I will continue to doubt their commitment.

Agreed wholeheartedly. I worry though that Preller feels a need to win this year to protect his job and will make a few splashy trades that jeopardize the farm. Trading high level prospects for vets has also been his MO the past decade. Hope he shows restraint.

Given payroll limitations (assuming those are real) and how good the Dodgers are in regular season, they need to thread a needle, make the playoffs as WC and have the pitching to make a run in the playoffs. If they are going to add significantly, I’d rather they sign/trade for another front line SP pitcher (or two) than add expensive OF/1B pieces.

Aaron Hicks played mostly CF but also some at the corners for the AL East champ Os last year. Held his own and then some. Filled in nicely during Mullins 1st IL stint. Older now with less pop in his bat, so an off the bench guy? Could be had on the cheap.

Cheap franchise that’s spending in the top 10 in MLB and was top 3 last year.
    But sure…..

Don’t think for a second that they wouldn’t send Mannny and Nando packing if they could.

This isn’t the Peter Seidler Padres. No one has stepped in to fill the void or even give fans any inkling of an idea of the direction of this franchise.

All talk has been of seriously reducing the payroll.

They have holes all over the roster and have passed on the likes of Bader and Renfroe who could have been had within their so called budget.

Looks like the team is going to go with a youth movement.

I’d prefer playing the kids then sending those prospects away in trades for back end starters simply to fill out a roster.

“If they could” – like no one would take Tatis in a trade in a heartbeat –
          LOL.

Which is fine by me. The Padres sans Tatis would be near the bottom five teams in baseball.

Now with MLBs new draft lottery teams can’t even reap the benefits of restocking their farm after a bad year.

This would be an unending down hill cycle for the Padres.

Ownership would love it. No need to spend anywhere on the team.

But why have a team then?

Send em to Tennessee in that case.

          In life, of course.

This is just sports but from the perspective of a Padres fan it’s pretty bleak.

I usually enjoy you tweaking some of the more fanatical Padre fans, kind of like tweaking NYY fans,

But I think you are way off-base here. No matter what the fanatics say, it looks like they are doing a one-year reset. Given Seidler’s death, and the TV uncertainty, and the huge tax hit they took, that’s not unreasonable.

But that said, they should be in contention for a WC. And they are pretty well set for 2025 and beyond. And since Atl will reset in 2025, you can sit back and watch the Braves fans biitch all winter.

          Contention for a wildcard. Ok.

List of who has left the club:

          Soto-hall of fame lf
          Hader-All-Star Closer
          Snell- CY Young award winner
Wacha- #3 starter low 3 ERA
          Lugo-#4 Starter low 3 ERA

          Replaced with…

No this team is not on par with last year’s 82 and 80 club, it’s worse.

So ‘contending for a wild card’ is rather outlandish.

But hey, I admire your optimism

Towin do you even follow the Padres?
Seidler said as long as the team stays in his family they will field a competitive team…no more bottom 10 payrolls.Anyone calling them cheap when they’re spending $200 mil is either a new fan…or a complete idiot.
When the dodgers reset their CBT number last year they were called geniuses…now SD does it and they’re cheap.
    Get a clue.

There is Zero chance SD trade Tatis or Manny.
Manny will go into the HOF in Brown and Tatis will have his statue.
    You need to relax.
Do you even remember the Alexi Amarista and Seth Smith days?
    Apparently not
