If you actually expected Kjerstad to send Mountcasdtle, O’Hearn, or Santander to the bench, you haven’t been paying attention!
I think the issue is if they knew they just needed a warm body at the end of the bench, why call up one of your better prospects. I get the O’s have a lot of good prospects in AAA, but they can’t all be future hall of famers. Surely there was someone they could have called up as filler who wasn’t destined for greatness.
Kjerstad clearly was deserving of being called up, as were Mayo and Norby. My pic was Norby, in that a right-handed bat was more likely to get into the line up. McKenna would have been the filler pic, but he’s not real well-liked by the orioles fan base. Interestingly enough, he was called up when Holliday was sent down.
Nick Nastrini is handsome, but I expected more handsomeness. He reminds me of Al Leiter.
