Braves Outright Davis Daniel

By Anthony Franco | August 16, 2025 at 10:04pm CDT

The Braves sent right-hander Davis Daniel outright to Triple-A Gwinnett, according to the MLB.com transaction log. The tracker also indicates that Carlos Carrasco elected free agency after being designated for assignment on Thursday. Daniel had not previously been DFA, so his removal from the 40-man roster drops their count to 37.

Atlanta acquired Daniel in a minor offseason trade. The Auburn product had been designated for assignment by the Angels, who flipped him to the Braves for minor league pitcher Mitch Farris. Daniel has spent much of the season on optional assignment to Triple-A. He has made three big league appearances (two starts) and allowed six runs on nine hits and seven walks over 10 innings. The minor league results haven’t been a whole lot better. Daniel has pitched to a 5.32 earned run average with a subpar 18.8% strikeout rate through 88 frames with Gwinnett.

Over parts of three big league campaigns, Daniel carries 5.13 ERA across 52 2/3 innings. This is his fifth season in Triple-A. He owns a 5.40 mark in 67 appearances at the top minor league level. This is Daniel’s first career outright, so he doesn’t have the ability to decline the assignment. He’ll remain with the Stripers for the remainder of the season.

The Braves acquired Carrasco to patch together a couple starts. He took the ball three times but was tagged for 15 runs while averaging fewer than five innings per appearance. The 38-year-old righty has an ERA above 7.00 between the Yankees and Braves. He’ll be limited to minor league offers if he intends to continue pitching.

Need roster spots for Austin Riley (couple of days) and Chris Sale (end of next week or following week). Sale starts tomorrow at AAA Gwinnett but depending on his pitch count he will be activated possibly Friday due to the Braves with an off day this coming Thursday or within the week after. Riley is expected to be activated on Monday. Also, prayers for Zach Wheeler, a local Atlanta native from East Pauding High School in recovering from his blood clot issue.

Sale yes as he was on the 60 injured list; but Riley didn’t go on the 60 days injured list so they didn’t need a spot for him.

I would guess Atl is going either promote some one soon for a starter or shop on the waiver wire

I just came to say hi to NVJ. Please read no further. But if you are on the can like I am here’s 1 minute of reading to entertain you well more like kill time I promise you there’s nothing entertaining. This guy struck people out in minors with not impressive stuff. Guess it didn’t work in MLB for him as expected. Would he get uptick as reliever? I haven’t seen him in years so no idea but always thought 5 6 starter was what he would be if he made it. Maybe go over seas unlock something there.

It does seem strange that the Braves now have 3 openings on their 40 man roster. Sale will make another rehab start today, so won’t be activated until at least later in this week. Could easily be the following week if he needs to make a third rehab start. Perhaps they are planning to promote someone from Gwinnett (Harris?)

I’m going to say Benjamin is right, Sale and Riley will be added, but you the Braves suspect maybe someone else and they are interested.

Joey Wentz morphing into a good SP option has been one of the most bizarre things we’ve seen from the Braves this season

Adding an extra foot to his extension and a new cutter grip has changed everything for him. Hope the improvements stick and are for real. He’ll be be some much needed depth as a 4/5 starter next season.
