Angels, Corey Knebel Agree To Minor League Deal

By Anthony Franco | August 13, 2024 at 9:22pm CDT

The Angels are signing reliever Corey Knebel to a minor league contract, as first reflected on the MLB.com transaction log. He’ll report to Triple-A Salt Lake. Knebel was granted his release from a non-roster deal with the White Sox earlier this month.

Now 32, Knebel is trying to get back to the majors for the first time since 2022. He has generally been a productive pitcher when healthy — highlighted by an All-Star season as Milwaukee’s closer back in ’17 — but has had various arm issues. He underwent a Tommy John procedure in 2019 and subsequently missed time with lat and shoulder concerns. Knebel didn’t pitch last season as he rehabbed a capsule strain that he suffered with the Phillies two years ago.

Most of his time with Chicago was also spent on the minor league IL. Knebel made six rehab appearances split between the complex and High-A. He only pitched six times for Triple-A Charlotte, though he impressed with 5 1/3 scoreless frames while striking out eight. While it wasn’t enough to convince the Sox to give him a look, that production evidently intrigued the Los Angeles front office.

It’s a fairly inconsequential move for the Halos, who aren’t anywhere near the playoff mix. Knebel will return to free agency this offseason regardless of whether he makes the MLB team. The final six weeks could serve as an audition as he tries to secure a big league opportunity going into 2025.

    Good.

It’s time for Anaheim to trade Trouty so they can restock the farm system with a massive haul of marquee prospects while at the same time Angry Arte would be finally giving Trouty a chance to win on a contending team.

    Do it now.

I bet teams are just lining up for the dude. Probably super tempted because he’s only owed over 220 million through the next 6 years.

Definitely worth emptying the farm over.

12981 – I assume you’re being funny. The Angels just don’t need anymore kicks. The damage is done.

Trout is happy where he is with the place and guaranteed contract. He sounded like he’ll shutdown any trade just to stay status quo.

He’s had his opportunity to go to a winning team.

Not only has the “trade Trout for massive haul of marquee prospects” ship sailed, it sunk…

Wrong tense. Should have traded. And Ohtani not Trout. Did you see Wood of the Nationals whom they got for Soto? What did they get for Ohtani again? And please don’t say they seriously were trying to convince him to stay.

A plausible view but they kept him to compete in 2023, which almost worked if not for so many injuries.

Wrong. Trout not getting traded. He signed a lifetime contract and he has no trade clause. He wants to play for one team his whole career. You ppl don’t get it. He’s not going anywhere. Sorry you don’t like the best player in baseball. Get lost with your dumb comments

Keep stocking up lottery tickets. Most will fail but every now and then one will hit.

It’s not like he’s blocking anyone at AAA.

Angels are just stocking $1 scratchers, trying to prove the old adage “you can’t polish a turd” wrong.

The problem is stocking up on past glory/possibly useful fodder is not only ignoring the team’s main problem, it’s prolonging it’s agony.

This team needs a full rebuild. If that means Trout hides on the IL all season than honestly so be it. The current course isn’t working and minus a 3 game foray into the 2014 postseason hasn’t worked since 2009

        Definitely needs a full rebuild.

At this point the draft is over and the trade deadline has passed. The only ways to bring in new faces are waiver claims and minor league deals.

These are the least likely to pan out, but might as well try.

If that $1 scratcher says ticket it’s a win at this point, but if moore gets called up Friday atleast the first round picks the last three years have paid off.

Mr Moreno has done the best thing he could do, and that was he hired Washington, all is forgiven.
12 and one half games can still be made up.
Pull for rendon and drury, all is forgiven
I am still very optimistic about the dream I had on feb 27; 2024 of “Remember the titans”. My interpetation is that Washington ( Denzel) in the movie, has united the team, and the angels will win their next World Series in 2024 or 2025. I still want it to be this year.
The other dream I had is that a rookie will hit two, two run homers in one game. My interpretation is an angel will do it, and when that happens you will know that remember the titans is a reality.
The general manager of the angels, predicted the other day that in 2025 trout will hit 70 homers.
I leave a note pad by the bed, and when it’s important I wake up with a dream and write it down. Have been doing this for years.
For Ron Washington 3rd time is the charm.
He took Texas to two World Series, and didn’t win.
Being that the angels are a 4 on a 1-10, I take at least a few positives from each game, and do not expect to much out of an organization that under performs for years.
From 02-05 I turned in at least 40 dreams to the angel organization, all which came true. I stopped turning in the dreams after umpires stole the series from the white Sox in 05, until now.
Seattle had a 10 game lead and lost it in no time.
The angels have 7 games with Houston in September.
    Remember the 02 angels
Note: did you ever think that az would be in the World Series in 2024?
