The Angels are coming off the worst season in franchise history. The farm system isn't highly regarded, while the team didn't get much out of its two highest-paid players. No team has a longer active playoff drought and that's unlikely to change in the next season or two.

What I think the angels should do this off-season:
Something
Bauer? But I Hardly Know Her!
Sign 6 of the top ten FA at over-market prices.
Improve the Farm System.
Go 80-82.
No Soup For Yu!
So these are subscriber only articles now? Is that a timed exclusivity thing, like for the first week, or is that just how they’re going to be forever? If it’s the latter, then what a load of crap. These are some of my favorite articles each year and they’ve always been free, to add a price tag to them now is just dumb. I mean, is the site really doing that poorly?
prov356
They’ve always had subscriber specific articles. They decided a few months ago to make them visible so non-subscribers can get a small taste of what they are missing in an effort to encourage more subscriptions.
bjtheduck
I don’t recall the offseason outlook articles ever being subscriber exclusives before this one. I too hope this isn’t how they’ll be in the future.
No Soup For Yu!
I’m aware they’ve had subscriber exclusive articles for a while now, and that’s never bothered me. What bothers me is taking a series of articles that has been a site staple every year and locking them behind a paywall without warning. And why stop at these in that case? Are “The Opener” and the podcast going to be paywalled too? What about every weekly chat instead of just one?
And as far as giving people, “a small taste of what they’re missing,” a single three sentence paragraph that doesn’t tell you anything about what the article actually entails isn’t going to encourage anyone who reads it to get a subscription. It’s like if movie trailers were limited exclusively to showing 10 second teasers. At least unblock the first few paragraphs so new people can see what these articles are actually about, because no one is going to read three sentences about how bad the Angels suck and think the article has anything more informative to tell them than a random Xwitter post that says the same thing.
prov356
Yeah, I get it. I didn’t think to look at the type of article. I figured they might eventually increase the number of subscriber only article categories. Eventually the free content will dwindle to crap I suppose and the search for a new baseball site will begin.
YourDreamGM
These were always free for everyone. Most people look to make the most $ as possible. Either pay or ask questions and see what responses you get.
Bauer? But I Hardly Know Her!
Fools! No one’s gonna pay for an Angel’s article.
JoeBrady
I too feel like everyone should provide with analysis for free, but unfortunately, bills need to be paid.
prov356
Joe – “I too feel like everyone should provide with analysis for free, but unfortunately, bills need to be paid.”
That’s not exactly the situation as MLBTR gets money from advertisers on it’s “free content” version of their platform. So although it’s free to the viewer, MLBTR is getting paid.
JAD
No Free Articles For Yu!
In case you haven’t figured it out MLBTR is a business that pays the writers of these “favorite articles.” That said, I’m open to reconsider my opinion if and when you tell your employer that you’re willing to do whatever it is you do for a living for free. If you’re not up for that well that is just dumb.
Sheesh………some people.
No Soup For Yu!
Let me put this in terms you can understand. Let’s say a restaurant offers free water for years. There are sodas and other soft drinks available for a a few bucks, but the water is still free. Then one day you visit this restaurant and find they now charge the same for water that they do for a soft drink. This is not because the water is expensive and hurting the bottom line, it’s to make you shrug and just pay the full price for a soda, because it’s the same as the water anyway. If you think that’s a normal business practice, then MLBTR is being run exactly how you’d like, which is unfortunate for anyone with more than one functioning brain cell.
These articles, specifically the Offseason Outlook articles, have never cost money until this year. There was never any indication that they would start costing money until they slapped the price tag on them and told people to pay up. You act like MLBTR wasn’t able to pay their writers a fair wage for their work until they started charging for articles, and given this site has been around far longer than their paid content, that’s not the case. Charging for services is fine, I’m a contractor myself. Charging people for things you always did for free and never affected your bottom line anyway for no discernable reason is dumb.
prov356
Yes Yu, that’s exactly right. The other tactic companies use now is charge the same price but reduce the quantity you’re getting. Orange Juice is a prime example of this. It used to be 4 bucks for a half gallon. Then when no one was looking, it was 4 bucks for 58 ounces, then 52 ounces, and now some companies are down to 48 ounces of orange juice for that same 4 bucks. I don’t buy orange juice anymore.
JAD
Now I’ll put something in terms you can understand…….if the pretend restaurant you’re referring to started charging for water that once upon a time was free I would simply stop going there or, if the food and ambiance was of such good caliber that I deemed paying for a glass of water to be a small price to pay so that I could continue to enjoy all they had to offer I would pay for the water…….easy peasy. One thing that I wouldn’t do is whine about it, especially in/on a public forum.
It’s really not that hard and I say again, some people.
No Soup For Yu!
Is that why you’re a front office subscriber? Oh wait, you’re not, or it would appear next to your name. So really, you’re just defending MLBTR’s idiotic business practices because you’d probably defend gas stations collectively doubling their prices for no reason at all. “Oh they’re private businesses, they can do whatever. Don’t like it, don’t drive a car.”
Tim’s reasoning doesn’t even make sense. He says no one reads these articles anyway, so if that’s the case then nobody is going to subscribe to their service specifically for these articles. It’s fine though, I can tell you’re a boomer so accountability is a foreign concept to you. Hope your kids don’t resent you when you leave them nothing.
JAD
here’s a website for you……..www.whaaaboohoo.com.
I’ve got an idea for you. Start your own journalistic endeavor, right your own articles and read then to you’re content. Bottom line is MLBTR owes you nothing. and they sure as hell aren’t accountable to you.
No Soup For Yu!
Yep, that’s the boomer mentality right there. The Day of the Pillow draws near.
JAD
Boomer? Wrong! Boomers were born between 1946 – 1964. I came into this world in 1989 which makes me a millennial.
I’m not going to charge you for that little nugget of information as you seem to think you’re entitled to free stuff and while I don’t agree with that gimme gimme gimme belief of yours I’ll go ahead and throw you a bone)..
Now it’s best you quit making a fool of yourself……..I mean cheap fool. It’s beyond obvious that you are not equipped to continue on with this back and forth engagement with me.
No Soup For Yu!
If not the day of the pillow, then the day of the rope. Better practice holding your breath.
JAD
say what you will…….still no free articles for you. pay up or shut up.
No Soup For Yu!
Aw, does my day of the rope comment scare you? Boo-hoo. And there are actually still plenty of free articles here. Even better, thanks to my newly installed ad blocker, MLBTR doesn’t get a dime from me even off my web traffic. It’s a small, personal victory, but it feels good anyway.
JAD
So let me get this right………you, the one whining that this article wasn’t free boo-hoo me.. Really? Talk about a warped sense of reality. In fact, I looked about the word warped in the dictionary and just as I expected there was your picture.
And by the way I am a front office subscriber, have been …….it’s only $29.99/year and unlike you I don’t think I’m entitled to free stuff like the parasite you obviously are. Gimme – Gimme – Gimme. What a loser.
No Soup For Yu!
“It was your picture.” We have the same profile picture, buddy. And how convenient you’re a supposed subscriber and it’s not listed next to your name like it is with actual subscribers. I’m sowwy you’re so angwy, but if calling me a parasite helps you feel better about being a liar, then that’s fine with me. Whatever helps the little baby stop cwying.
JAD
I pay the bill and I know what I pay for.. and as for your comment :”it was my picture” how original, you must had some help coming up with that zinger …..oh wait, you did.
Say what you will……..whiners gonna whine and you are definitely a whiner…….still no free articles for you.
No Soup For Yu!
Rope. Rope. Rope. Be afraid, widdle baby.
JAD
Let me get this right, you’re the sniveling whiny wussy and I’m a widdle baby? Delusional much.
Cry some more.
No Soup For Yu!
You still haven’t stopped crying? Does someone need their diaper changed, or are you just that obsessed with me? It’s time to let it go, I’ll get the articles for free eventually anyway.
JAD
So you’ll still get your articles for free………typical whiny loser who thinks he’s owed something if not everything for free.
Try paying your own way through life.
I can’t help but wonder what your parents think of the parasite they raised.
No Soup For Yu!
Yes, I will get them for free, like I get most media for free, because I’d rather my money go towards supporting my family and the things that actually matter. Given that my work as a contractor supports my family and will put my kids through college, I think my parents are actually quite proud of me. Not so sure about your parents since you only feel validation from calling people parasites on the internet and clearly have no job if you keep coming back to this discussion, but maybe they still love you!
California Halo's
Its all about the Money, They need to make as much money as they can possibly make. Everything else, including reader happiness is no longer a priority. .
Blackpink in the area
I said this back in July and still think it makes some sense to trade Trout to Philly for Walker and Castellanos. Some money could exchange hands as well but what that would do would increase the Phillies chances the next couple years while hurting them long term. And the Angels are even more screwed the next couple years but at least they can move on after 2026 with Rendons contract also ending at that time.
prov356
…and I’m sure when you said that in July, many of us reminded you that Trout has a full no-trade clause.
Blackpink in the area
He’s from the Philly area. The Phillies are a legit WS contender. I think he would wave his NTC to go there. If you don’t then keep thinking that.
prov356
Yes, but Trout himself said he’s not looking to be traded and he loves living in Newport. He’s been very clear.
Blackpink in the area
What else is he supposed to say? That the Angels are a joke of an organization and he wants out???
prov356
Blackpink – “What else is he supposed to say?
If he wanted a trade, he should tell Moreno he wants a trade. Instead he has said publicly he wants to stay. Do you have inside information that Trout secretly wants a trade and has told Moreno that?
Blackpink in the area
A trade is what makes sense for both teams and it’s what makes sense for Trout too if he wants a shot at a ring.
prov356
I don’t disagree with that. My original point in response to your original comment is that Trout has a full NTC and can’t be traded unless he wants to be.
Blackpink in the area
And my point is I think he wants to be.
California Halo's
Trout has said multiple times he doesn’t want to play for Philadelphia. If he wanted to be traded it would be to the Dodgers. Going to the Dodgers would cause the least amount of change for him and his family. Unfortunately Artie hates the Dodgers. He would never approve a trade to them.
Blackpink in the area
He’s never said he would want to play for the Dodgers
YourDreamGM
If Philly would want a over paid 30 something with chronic injury.
Blackpink in the area
Walker and Castellanos are overpaid. At least you can dream on Trout being healthy and productive.
mark68
Why would the Angels trade Trout to get two players on the wrong side of 30? They’re not going to do it just because YOU want them to.
YourDreamGM
Pillar for some reason wasn’t traded sonhe can retire a Angel as last team played for if he follows through.
Farm would be better if they traded Ohtani Anderson Ren. No idea why they didn’t. They could have simply signed other players to replace them.
Bauer? But I Hardly Know Her!
Never assume they got a good offer.
YourDreamGM
Any offer is a good offer on expiring players. You accept a fair offer for them. Lots of good and fair offers for other teams. They said they wanted to keep them and did. They didn’t want to trade them. With Ohtani doing nothing would have been better. Instead of receiving prospects they lost prospects.
Rexhudler86
@dreamgm. Pillar has stepped back from those comments. I think he meant he will step away if he had to take a minor league offer.he should be able to be a 4th outfielder on any team.
JoeBrady
I understood Ohtani. They were only 3 games out on 7/31 and it is still important to give the fans something to root for.
But keeping Anderson was insane. He had a 2.96. Flaherty and Kikuchi both got decent returns.
Rexhudler86
@joe brady I swear they could’ve gotten norby off the orioles for Anderson. Instead They got richards and released him two weeks later for a top 5 prospect in a good system. Blue Jay’s got a decent return for kikuchi. Not sure if stuff was nixed by arte or perry overplayed his hand.
mark68
I’ll give you two words why they didn’t trade Ohtani: Arte Moreno. I’ll give you three why they didn’t trade Anderson: not enough value. And they didn’t trade Rengifo because he has more value (right now) to the Angels than to any potential trade partner.
THEY LIVE!!!
Moreno needs to sell the team.
jaybird 4
Yes hes does. The goose thMorat laidt the golden egg (Ohtani) is gone, Moreno’s kids,m don’t want to inherit the club, the real estate deal fell through. What’s the point?
EM41
The Angels need a new owner.
Anything else is shifting chairs on the Titanic

I’m not sure what to make of Moniak.
With regular playing time, he hit fairly well vs RHP after June 1st.
.245/.293/.456
His defense was solid in CF. (For some reason defensive metrics don’t like his work in the corner spots)
It seems to me that, in a market with few CF options, he could be serviceable with a decent platoon partner.
This platoon partner doesn’t even need to be an OF. It could be someone who could DH while Trout plays CF vs LHP.
Unfortunately, this type of creativity is nonexistent in Anaheim. But there IS a way to wring some value out Moniak.
radhippo
If they can add a good,
LF, CF, RF
Then sign a quality
3b, and 2b
And then follow it up with an Ace and 3 more SP
and finally add top 3RP
I think they can compete for the West
bballfan_1974
What should the Angels do in the off-season?:
Remove Los Angeles from their name and change it back to Anaheim.
They seem to make bad decisions on personnel every year. They end up with injuries, especially to players like Trout, that decimate their season and postseason chances.
In other words, they seem snakebit. Perhaps the baseball gods are upset that they are claiming an area that they are not a part of, lol.
Teamspirit
I read this site a lot less since they starting charging for their articles.
