Trade Rumors Front Office Subscriber Chat Transcript

By Steve Adams | September 22, 2025 at 1:56pm CDT

Steve Adams

  • 'Tis Monday. 'Tis chat day. I'll get going at 2pm CT, but feel free to send in questions in advance if you prefer!
  • Let's get underway!

Kirk

  • thoughts on Texas going after Freddy Peralta in the winter?

Steve Adams

  • I don't see why they wouldn't. I imagine lots of teams will be interested in him, though. The Brewers hold an $8MM option that they'll obviously pick up. It's a matter of whether they move him to extract some significant prospect value in return or whether they just ride out his final year and recoup a high draft pick for him post-2026.Typically, they have gone the trade route, but they did hang onto Willy Adames for his full control window -- and Peralta is even cheaper and arguably more valuable than some of the guys they did trade when they were down to a year (or just over) of club control -- Hader, Burnes, Williams.
  • Texas will have Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi and Jack Leiter locked into rotation spots. Tyler Mahle, Patrick Corbin and Merrill Kelly are free agents. You can't feel all that great about the health outlook of either deGrom or Eovaldi, despite deGrom staying healthy this year.
  • They have plenty of prospect depth and some interesting young big leaguers they could include (Kumar Rocker, Josh Jung come to mind as former top prospects who might be trending toward change-of-scenery territory). There's no reason to suggest they won't pursue him -- but nothing uniquely positions them as any sort of favorite, either.

The Mayor

  • Is Scott Harris or A.J. Hinch's job on the line with the latest Tigers meltdown? Harris especially should be under fire from ownership for his trade deadline moves.

Scott Harris

  • Look, I still have all my top prospects.  I thought our pitching looked good and needed minor tweeks.  Maybe I need an eye exam?

this little piggyback

  • I root for the Mets and the Tigers. Please talk me off the ledge.

If it is official that the Cardinals attendance is down over 1,000,000 Fans since 2023 ———-
Are the Cardinal’s Owners willing to spend money or trade for a young Quality players —- or a young Ace Pitchers???
Chaim Bloom needs the Owners to give him Free Reigns to restore the Competitiveness of the Cardinals!!!
In turn, he’ll restore the “Cardinal’s Nation Fans back in the Stands” to the annual tune of 3,000,000 a year!!!

(According to former and retired Cardinals players —- it is the Owners — (specifically DeWitt III) who refuse to spend the money to upgrade the Cardinals with young, proven, quality ballplayers and pitchers. Stating that was Mozeliak’s problem too.)

To be able to Rebuild —- Chaim Bloom needs a Free Reigns in trades and sensible spendings to
Restoring Competitiveness to the BBC Cardinals.

Never let fans get the idea that they no longer have to go to the ballpark. They often never return once the habits are broken. The Indians had a stretch of 6 years with > 3M.

        More bootlicking, JoeBrady?

Put a constantly competitive team and there’ll be constant attendance.

It’s bad to be cheap. You’re a stock investor anyway, you’d know how to cut corners I’m sure.

      @Dizzy

No one is more eager to see the Cardinals return to contention than me, but unfortunately, I think they’re more than a couple of free agents away.

For the record I think Bill DeWitt III is an a**hat. But in the owners’ defense it not accurate to say that they didn’t allow Mo to spend. He just sucked at it. Ownership probably feels they got zero return on investment from free agency and they’re right. They share some of the blame for allowing Mo to keep running the ship into the ground, but it’s easy to understand why they don’t believe spending will fix the problem.

The Cardinals are finally starting to develop a collection of promising arms. They won’t help next year, but 2027 could be interesting.

Ah yes my favorite trade proposal:

Please take all of our washed up failed prospects and give us your best player. Thanks!
