Bo Bichette is back. The Blue Jays announced their World Series roster today, and it includes the two-time All-Star infielder. Bichette has been sidelined since early September due to a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Manager John Schneider indicated yesterday that Bichette could see time at shortstop, second base and/or designated hitter if cleared to rejoin the roster. If he appears in a game at second base, it’ll be his first time playing there since the minor leagues in 2019.
The Jays dropped outfielder Joey Loperfido and righty Yariel Rodriguez from their roster, which contains 14 position players and 12 pitchers. It breaks down as follows:
- Catchers: Alejandro Kirk, Tyler Heineman
- Infielders: Addison Barger, Bo Bichette, Ernie Clement, Ty France, Andres Gimenez, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Isiah Kiner-Falefa
- Outfielders: Nathan Lukes, Davis Schneider, George Springer, Myles Straw, Daulton Varsho
- Pitchers: Chris Bassitt, Shane Bieber, Seranthony Dominguez, Braydon Fisher, Mason Fluharty, Kevin Gausman, Jeff Hoffman, Eric Lauer, Brendon Little, Max Scherzer, Louis Varland, Trey Yesavage
Yesavage gets the ball opposite Blake Snell in Game 1, becoming the second-youngest Game 1 starter in World Series history (trailing Ralph Branca of the ’47 Dodgers (as noted by MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson). The Jays haven’t formally announced a Game 2 starter to take on righty Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but it’s expected to be Gausman. Bieber and Scherzer are likely up, in some order, for Games 3 and 4. The Dodgers figure to counter with Tyler Glasnow and Shohei Ohtani.
Of course, all eyes will be on Bichette in his return to the diamond after an absence of roughly seven weeks. It’s not likely that he’s at 100%, but the Jays medical staff cleared him to take the field for the franchise’s biggest series in more than 30 years.
There’s an offseason component to consider as well, given Bichette’s status as an impending free agent. Any time at second base in the World Series could offer a potential glimpse of the future, too; Bichette’s glovework at shortstop has been perhaps the key knock on his free agent case, and it’s likely that some clubs will prefer to sign him and move him to second base. A small handful of appearances when he’s coming off a notable knee injury isn’t going to be indicative of how he’d look there at full strength in 2026 and beyond, but it’s still a source of intrigue both for the duration of the Fall Classic and for the broader, long-term picture.

Well…this is very stylish!!!
and that’s a hell of a price to pay for being stylish!…..
Hahaha..yes …yes it is
I feel like we’ve had this conversation before!
We might have
Thank you Canadian for running theanti-tariff television commercial ad during the World Series
By the way nice win over the Dodgers!!!!
Go Blue Jays!!!
Not a Dodgers yes I am a Angels fan
most Americans don’t agree with Donald Trump
Springer/Bichette/Vlad could be a very strong lineup core, especially with Varsho and Barger providing threats from the left side. Hoping that we get a 6-7 game series either way, but especially hoping that the Jays can make the Dodgers finally crack a bit. Do the AL East proud, guys!
Kirky gets his hits as well
Little sparkplug that rakes. He’s a good hitter.
They already are a strong lineup. Tops in baseball this season. Dodgers pitching has their work cut out for them….
But look at how they pitched vs Brewers. My god, they were great and Im not a Dodgers fan at all.
the Brewers had one of the worst offenses in baseball outside of a few stretches
Are you sure about that? They finished 2nd in BA (.258), 3rd in runs (806), 9th in doubles (265), 2nd in SB (164), 2nd in OBP (.332), and 5th in Ks (1266).
Mind you, they didn’t hit for much power (22nd, 166HRs), but calling them one of the worst offences in the league is a HUGE stretch. They finished 1st in all of MLB for a reason.
Wrong.
9 times out of 10, the team with the great starting pitching in a World Series shuts down the great offense. 1963 Dodgers, 1995 Braves, 2019 Nationals, and many more.
1966 Orioles.
The 1 out of 10 that comes to mind for me is the 1971 Orioles!
9 out of 10 proceeds to list 3 examples in 62 years
They will. Jays in 6
Yankees were a strong team last year, but they still got demolished (even though some games were close)
If a Yankees team that also had Juan Soto loses in 5 games, there’s potential for a World Series sweep here
The key factor is Dodgers starting pitching depth. Last year they did it with Yamamoto, an erratic Flaherty and Landon Knack. This year’s foursome is a slight upgrade.
Yep, it’s all on the dodgers SP.
I think TORs best chance is to get to the Dodgers SP early in games and early in the series. If they don’t, and Snell and Yamamoto can go depe in games and save the BP, then it might be a quick series.
Jays field a deeper lineup than what most have given them credit for. Dodgers shouldn’t take them lightly
Most pundits had the Yankees sweeping or easily beating the Jays, and a lot of experts had the Mariners winning as well. It’s playoff baseball, anything can happen. What happened last year is irrelevant.
Let the games begin!
I thought the baseball season ended on Monday?
@harrycarey
The baseball season ended back in September. The Brewers won the season. They’re just doing some extra games after the season to take some more money from the fans.
Congratulations to the Brewers for being season champions.
Who cares what they did in the regular season, the Brewers tanked against the Dodgers. Wasn’t even a series.
Jays will show em how it’s done
@Midinfieldlifer
Playoffs are just a crapshoot of who gets hot. I don’t recognize it as a legitimate champion. It’s a glorified participation trophy.
The Brewers only won 4 more games than the Dodgers and 3 more than the Blue Jays in the regular season. Brewers’ overall record including the postseason is not the best. So there’s no sense in which they’ve had the best year when you count all the games. Although it’s very close and they could still end up with the best winning percentage.
@smuzqwpdmx
But you have to acknowledge that the playoffs don’t really mean much either. Ultimately, I’ll consider 162 games as more relevant than 8 or 12 games.
Regular season matters but I think most feel the whole season including playoffs crowns the champion.
I don’t think most people would enjoy professional sports without it offering playoffs or rewarding teams for a strong regular season.
In my opinion, a season just ending on the last regular season day and whoever has the best record wins just wouldn’t feel right.
But I get what you are saying as there have been a few instances where a team just squeaks into the post season and wins it all. Thinking of the 2006 Cardinals. Regular season I think they only won 82 or 83 games
Bo will be showcasing for the Dodgers.
Are we sure it’s not an audition for 2B on the Giants ?
(Official rumor started here)
@oldgfan
Official rumours are the most reliable ;o)
Giants are like a homeless person they beg for judge and Correa but won’t get help from them because they are homeless
Worst. Analogy. Ever.
Could definitely see it
If I was gambling man I would drop some cash on the Blue Jays winning it all.
Emmanuel Clase, Luis Ortiz and Ohtani’s translator can hook you up.
Dodgers sure won’t steam roll them like many think. Deep line up
The Blue Jay’s have a shot if Kershaw has to pitch 😊
The way the Jays thrashed Snell and the relievers tonight the Dodgers may have a shot if Kershaw pitches
Max Scherzer will have a chance to be the 2nd player to play in the World Series with 4 different teams. The other? Lonnie Smith! (PHI, STL, KC, ATL)
Mr. Geddy Lee hoping too see the Jays in the limelight.
Hopefully the Blue Jays’ Chemistry works in their favor
I hear after counting the 2026 rush your box office receipts .. he wants to buy the jays 🙂
I think everybody outside of Los Angeles is pulling for the Blue Jays. With the money the Dodgers spent anything less than a ring is a complete failure.
Bichette starting at 2B for the first time in his career in G1 of the World Series…! Goodness, that’s bold. Could be interesting for Bo going into free agency where SS will get you paid more. Will he push to play SS…or a bidding team be pressured to justify a contract by playing him there, before pushing him off (to 2B?)
Bichette is going to pull a Kirk Gibson for the Blue Jays.
@Mercenary.Freddie.Freeman
Springer kinda did the same thing against the M’s. Not quite as hobbled though.
Bo worked hard to get back and is going to be playing 2B (game 1 at least) … better than putting Springer in the field. Can’t wait. Go Jays … you’re our only hope (of saving baseball)
Bo to the A’s on a five year deal will make them the best team in ball when they get to Vegas
Another team that makes sense on paper but I can’t see him heading there unless it’s a big overpay.
Would be an amazing signing for them with the upcoming move
It sounds like hes going to resign with Toronto. However, I have a feeling this is a player another team may off an enormous amount of money too where he really cant say no too.
There shouldn’t be a comma before “too.”
