Philadelphia’s season came to an abrupt end when they were trounced by the Dodgers in four games during the NLDS, and now they’re facing down a crucial offseason where a number of key players are headed for free agency. With Kyle Schwarber, Ranger Suarez, and J.T. Realmuto all already headed to the open market, it seems likely that big changes are coming to the Phillies one way or another. The club’s pending free agents aren’t the only places where the possibility of change can be seen, however.
Last winter, the Phillies floated the possibility of more substantial change and made regulars like Alec Bohm and Nick Castellanos available. Neither ultimately ended up getting traded last year, but perhaps that could change this winter. Given that Castellanos endured a career-worst season and lost playing time down the stretch this year, the question surrounding his trade candidacy seems less to be about whether the Phillies would like to move on from him and more about what team might be interested in adding him and how much of his salary Philadelphia would need to pay down to facilitate a move.
Bohm, on the other hand, is a more intriguing trade candidate. The Phillies apparently set an extremely high asking price in trade talks regarding the infielder last winter, as they reportedly sought either Logan Gilbert or George Kirby from the Mariners and Mason Miller from the Athletics in exchange for his services. That asking price, naturally, was not met, and the teams that passed on Bohm are surely glad they did so based on his performance in 2025. After a 2024 campaign where Bohm posted a 113 wRC+ with solid defense at third base en route to his first career All-Star appearance, he took a clear step backwards this year as he slashed just .287/.331/.409 (105 wRC+) with 11 homers, a 5.8% walk rate, a 16.3% strikeout rate, and less robust defensive metrics.
In other words, he regressed in virtually every aspect of his game. After his middling 2025 campaign and the club’s inability to find a trade partner for Bohm last winter coming off a career year, it goes without saying that the Phillies would need to massively lower their expectations for a return in order to work out a deal involving Bohm. That might be reason enough for the Phillies to pass on the idea of trading him this winter, if they believe a bounce back is coming next season. If the club is risking the loss of Schwarber from the lineup already, any possibility of downgrading offensively at the hot corner would surely be looked at with skepticism.
On the other hand, Bohm is entering his final year before free agency, so it stands to reason that the Phillies might have an easier time accepting a less-than-elite return for the 29-year-old infielder at this point. Perhaps more importantly, Bohm’s departure could clear the way for the Phillies to upgrade the third base position, either immediately or in the long-term. Alex Bregman figures to be one of the winter’s top free agents and would be a big upgrade over Bohm if acquired, and Bo Bichette is another intriguing option even if he’d have to be convinced to move off shortstop. Going after one of those players could be an especially sensible decision if Schwarber ends up signing elsewhere this winter.
Even if the Phillies aren’t interested in adding a big-ticket free agent, it must be remembered that internal help is on the way. Aidan Miller is a consensus top-30 prospect in the sport and got promoted to Triple-A shortly before the end of the regular season. He looked quite comfortable in eight games at the level, going 9-for-27 (.333) with two doubles, a home run, and more walks (9) than strikeouts (7) in 34 trips to the plate. It should be expected that he’ll be ready for the big leagues at some point next year, and the possibility of Bohm blocking him at third base doesn’t seem especially appealing. Utility man Edmundo Sosa remains in the organization as a potential bridge to Miller if he isn’t ready for the majors out of Spring Training, as well.
Of course, much of whether or not it would make sense for the Phillies to deal Bohm will come down to what they can get in return for his services. Fortunately, an offseason with this much uncertainty baked in also comes with plenty of flexibility in terms of what the Phillies can look for in a return package. Suarez’s potential departure will leave a hole in the rotation the club would do well to fill, but there’s also room for improvement in the outfield, where Harrison Bader and Max Kepler are both scheduled to hit free agency, and in a bullpen that figures to lose David Robertson and might also lose Jose Alvarado if the Phillies don’t exercise his club option. Perhaps Bohm can be packaged with prospect capital in order to bring back a starter, or he could be swapped with a similarly-controllable outfield bat if there’s a team with surplus in the outfield in need of infield help.
How do MLBTR readers think the Phillies will handle Bohm headed into this winter? Will he be placed on the trade block in order to clear the way for someone else at third base, be it Miller or a free agent addition? Or will they hold onto him and hope for better results in 2026? Have your say in the poll below:

Isn’t the more important question:
Who wants Alec Bohm and is willing to trade for him?
I just don’t see a ton of likely takers.
If they don’t find any they will non tender him
His 25 season was fine by many standards although I worry more about his glove than his bat.
Worry about his head too. Psychological issues are well documented.
Zero chance of him being non-tendered. He’ll either be their 3rd baseman next year or he’ll be traded to fill another hole on the roster. Dombrowski isn’t going to let him go for no return.
Dodgers did not “trounce” Phillies, they edged or outlasted them. Phillies out-scored Dodgers overall in the 2025 NLDS and Dodgers won the decisive game by one run in extras with their two other wins by only one and two runs, respectively.
Yeah, what’s Dick Needs talking about?
amen… NICK didnt watch
He will be non-tendered.
Alec Bohm or Dick Needs?
Both?
That would be a good poll.
I think it would be 70% tendered.
Angels?
Bohm is the least of Dumbrowskis problems
Bohm is serviceable and has every incentive to perform well in his walk year. Just use Bohm as a bridge to Miller. Worst choice would be to pony up for another veteran to play third.
Why move him unless they are going after Bregman. Like you said, hang onto him until Miller is ready.
He isn’t gonna bring back anything of significance.
Only way I see them go after Bregman is of they lose Schwarber.
I agree. I’d say there’s a 90% chance Schwarber returns and it won’t be cheap. I also see Realmuto re-signing for a year or two. I know Dombrowski has spent big in the past, but I see Schwarber & Realmuto being expensive enough that Bregman probably doesn’t fit moneywise. This is most likely the final contract for Bregman to get long term.I would think he’ll probably seek a 4-5 year deal with Boston, Mets, Yankees or Ducking Fodgers. I believe Muncy isn’t back with the Dodgers.
Muncy has a $10MM option that the Dodgers will surely pick up.
@mab51357: I don’t see any chance of the Mets being in on Bregman. They have a far cheaper and far younger option in Baty. And they have bigger problems with the bullpen, maybe adding a starter, and dealing with Alonso/first base.
Dodgers have a $10 million option on Muncy, who hit better than Bregman this year. No chance that don’t pick that up.
Thanks for the Muncy info. He’s been a frequent tormenter against the Giants for sure.
rct. Good points. I didn’t realize Baty had a decent season this year. Just always kept hearing about him being the answer at 3b for a few seasons now.
Mets will sign Tucker. Stearns loves right fielders and has a blank check.
Non-tender him? Nope…silly move. He is now on a one year deal for $10M and there is no such thing as a bad one year deal.
He is not a solution to getting better, but he is here and a bridge to Miller we hope. Paying big long term $$ at 3B in addition to elsewhere does not make sense. Bregman wants too much for too long for a non-elite (but still very good) 3B. Suarez on a two year deal makes some sense but we also have enough low BA / low OBP hitters already.
He has some trade value but not a ton offhand, so you simply explore it. Folks forget that there are many worse options that are starting out there as well. He is basically a middle of the pack 3B in the league today and perhaps someone sees some upside in a change of scenery.
Agree keep Bohm as cheap bridge to Miller so they have cash to retain Schwarbs.
Two possible contenders would be Seattle )again) and Boston;
The M’s, in a best-case scenario, would be able to re-sign one of Naylor or Suarez. But now with their TV deal gone & asking MLB to handle their regional telecasts, the team will be cutting even if they bring home a WS – a la Marlins. I could see them passing on both and acquiring either Mountcastle or Bohm (for a reliever, not one of their prized starters)… if they trade for a 1st baseman then the hot corner will be Williamson’s again,
The Red Sox should show Bregman the cold (injured) shoulder if he uses his out clause. They could flip Harrison for Bohm, or better yet get in on the Suarez bidding.
He won’t be around for his walk year which is the best choice this Phillies team could make.
The question is, what are you doing to do with the savings to make the team better. If they bring back Schwarber and JT, you’re not exactly giving yourself a massive amount of space to add an impact 3B. I’d just give him the $10 million and do something different at DH. Hope I’m wrong though, because I don’t think that’s what they will do.
Castellanos and Bohm for Arenado and Gorman? Who hangs up first?
that is a lot of paperwork for a few lateral-moving parts
The Phillies. Gorman does little for them. He’s a lefty-hitting barely .300OBP guy. And, at this point, Castellanos is probably the better offensive player than Arenado, and he’s owed less money over a shorter term. Phillies are probably worse if they make that trade.
“And, at this point, Castellanos is probably the better offensive player than Arenado”
OPS+ had them at about even last year and Arenado plays much, much better defense than Castellanos and does so at a more premium position. Castellanos was one of the worst every day players in the league last year. Arenado doesn’t have much value but he has a lot more than Castellanos. Arenado was worth 1.5 more WAR via fangraphs and 2.3 more via B-Ref despite playing only 107 games.
If you factor in their salaries, Arenado’s value comes down closer to Castellanos but still. I think most teams in baseball would take Arenado.
Arenado also was playing hurt before going on the IL. No guarantee he gets better but at least he has an excuse. Castellanos simply isnt any good.
Arenado would be a good fit with the Phils. And he would probably be rejuvenated on a team that has a chance to win it all for a few seasons. I watched his defense against the Giants when we played STL this year and he was still pretty outstanding.
Castellanos, Bohm and Gage Wood for Arenado and Nootbaar.
Per Gage Wood: A player can’t be traded under one year after being drafted
Yes they can. Braden Montgomery was traded laat offseason.
You think Nootbar has the same value as James Wood??
Players drafted this season can be traded after the conclusion of the World Series.
Castellanos and Bohm for Arenado and Noot would be closer and if no money is involved it may also take another smaller piece on the Cardinals side I would think. I don’t think it is a good move for either side really.
Bohm has almost no positive trade value. Nootbaar maybe 15 million roughly same as Wood. Castellanos is downright awful.
Assuming I voted yes for the same reason why everyone else is voting yes– we like trades, that’s why we are on this website.
All that aside, I think Sosa is just as good a player. If they can somehow get something useful for Bohm and not take a hit on the field or at the plate, do it.
Looking at FG, and assuming Bohm is the 3-win player from 2024 and not the 2-win player from 2025, how many teams would he be an upgrade? Maybe ten? And of those ten, which are looking to pay for an upgrade? I think the White Sox would be better with him but they’d rather be developing Miguel Vargas or whoever. The resulting list is short. I don’t know who’d want him.
@brocness
How did you determine he was a 2 win player this season?
bWAR had him at only 1.3 which isn’t that great at all.
fWAR
Thanks, I admittedly didn’t go the extra steps to check out how fWAR ranked him as I hated how the fangraphs stat pages show up on a cellphone screen even with changing to landscape mode.
Over the long term, Sosa is not equal to Bohm. Extended playing time has exposed him. He’s good in spurts and at times but not as a full-time starter.
At Bohm’s size there should be more power in his body/abilities. They should sit down with him this offseason and encourage a different approach. I believe he’s been hesitant in the past because he fears it would result in more strikeouts—which I hate—but it could be beneficial to both his career, the team, and his future earnings. Might be now or never for him. I’d hate see them trade him somewhere that convinces him to change things up and he turns into a middle-of-the-order power bat.
Besides, they’re not bringing back anything substantial for him.
Bohm really should hit for more power than he does, but I have no reason to think he will do that next year. Sosa hit as many home runs as Bohm this year even with much less playing time than Bohm. Once they bring up Aidan Miller, he’s also going to get on base more often than Bohm because he actually walks. Credit to Bohm for walking 6 times in the playoff series, but that still brings him to only 35 walks for the whole year while not hitting for power.
Agree. However Sosa in my opinion is a super sub. If he goes full time is it Otto Kemp?
Cardinals
Why would the Cardinals want Bohm? They’ve literally stated they are undergoing a long-term rebuild; Bohm is a FA long before they ever expect to contend.
He’s only on a 1 year deal. I dont think he has much value as of now but if he had a good first half he could have some at the trade deadline. And the Cardinals dont have anyone to play 3b in the meantime.
That’s kind of the point, him only being on a one year before free agency. Why would the Cardinals, a team not looking to contend, want to trade for someone making roughly $10 M to play for them? Makes no sense. They’re probably going to lose 100+ games next year; I doubt they care who plays third base as long as they don’t have to pay him a lot.
Cardinals could flip Bohm in a deal with Seattle and get Williamson. Seattle could use Contreras he would be a good fit for them.
So the Cardinals would trade for a guy who’s a year away from FA and has little trade value, in hopes of flipping him to another team in a few months?
Yeah, I don’t see that making good business sense.
Bohm has almost no trade value. So focusing on him is weird and makes no sense.
Focusing on Bohm makes perfect sense. The article you are commenting on is about him.
Seattle might re-sign Naylor. But even if they don’t they have multiple young infielders who could easily play 1st base. Hard pass on Contreras. Colt Emerson could play 3rd & Williamson would be a cheap gold glove at first. Cole Young is yet another cheap infielder who can play first.
Why would you play an infielder who can barely hit at 1b? Thats silly.
For the same reason you want our rookie 3rd baseman (Williamson).
The Cardinals need a long term 3b. The Mariners have both Williamson and Emerson. They really dont. Where are all these infielders playing in Seattle?
They’ll potentially trade one when they’re not offered injured disappointing former prospects. You know the type, one’s having just had hernia or heel surgery.
SEA does not need Contreas. If Naylor does not sign they ll likely be seeking a LH bat to replace him. With Naylor and the switch hitting Polanco both potentially leaving the mention of SEA taking on an aging RH bat in Contreas is just not realistic and is in no way a good fit.
Tom:Exactly why Arenado will be playing for another team in 2026.
That was my thought. He’s an Ohmaha Native, so close to home and they are looking to deal Arenado. Bohm is a cheap option (even to resign).
People forget that the Rockies are still paying for Arenado.
THere could be more to that trade than most think.
Sure, Arenado is on the decline, but he’s still better defensively than Bohm. I’d say on both sides of the ball, actually.
I also don’t think the Cardinals should give up on contention in 2026. The Royals had one of the worst lineups I’ve ever seen and finished with a winning record, it seems like it doesn’t take that good of a team to contend anymore.
How much are the Rockies paying? Not the majority, and he’s owed significantly more than Bohm.
He’s not better on both sides of the ball. Still better defensively, but nowhere near where he was, and his offense has completely cratered.
Rockies are on the hook for 5M in 2026. THe deal ends after next season.
Pretty sure it’s after 2027, so the next two seasons. He got an extra year when the trade to STL happened.
Scoring a run for every 10 at bats is just plain underrated…..
The Phillies are like the Yankees: great during the regular season and can’t hit the broad side of a barn in the postseason. Give the fans one WS appearance since 2009 and get them sucked in. Maybe Joe Girardi or that 2009 WS cursed both of these teams.
Sounds spooky!
For real. That Yankees team was stacked with HOF’ers while the Phillies had gamers. Went to a Game 6 when the Phillies had only Cliff Lee and a Broken Pedro.
Since then, nothing for either. I was really hoping for a rematch this year too.
Was that around the time I started seeing everyone wearing “Vote for Broken Pedro” shirts?
I had no idea it was a Phillies thing.
The Phillies lost to a better team in 2009 and in 2022. If I don’t see another championship, 2023 is the one that will stick with me.
They did. Series should never have gone to 6 games. As good as that Yankees team was and how much better they were than they Phillies shows you how good that 2009 Phillies squad really was.
Phillies had no business in the series in 2022. They got lucky and that’s evident by their play since.
Most contenders don’t need a 3B and and rebuilding clubs won’t trade for a rental. Him declining in every category isn’t going to help either. Maybe a salary dump/bad contract swap with an overpaid reliever.
Red Sox do
Sox have Marcelo Mayer. If they don’t bring Bregman back it’s either go after Eugenio Suarez or roll with Mayer because Bohm doesn’t really move the needle for the Sox and would just be a one year rental
The Royals had interest last year and my guess is they would again, allowing them to move Garcia to 2B and play Bohm at 3b. Especially since they have SP and catching depth to move–and Bohm wouldn’t be nearly as expensive as last year, could line up nicely.
(And yes, I know Garcia is a potential-GG 3B.)
What Catching depth? They have Salvy, who is basically a 50/50 Catcher/DH and Carter Jensen, who is likely going to be the primary option on most days and you aren’t getting Jensen for Bohm. Maybe M.J. Melendez, but not Jensen
I would take Melendez for Bohm, if nobody better was on offer. He would improve the backup catching situation, Marchan was pretty bad this year.
Melendez hasn’t caught in a while so maybe not
That’s true, but I think they need to make two moves for catchers.
One move would be to keep Realmuto, the next move would be to add a solid backup. Elias Diaz or Christian Vazquez are decent as backups
Brohm for Abreu? Feasible? We need a 3B
Not that badly
Not even remotely close.
They already tried this and nobody was interested.
Right? They were asking for Gilbert or Kirby for him?! LMAO. Not only would I have hung up if I were the M’s…I also would’ve told the Phils that I’m never dealing with them again over such a ludicrously bad offer.
Bohm wasn’t anywhere near a Gilbert/Kirby/Miller value last offseason. That’s one of the most insane asks/demands I have ever heard. Really isn’t any point trying to talk to someone that high and delusional…
In his first 6 seasons Bohm has been essentially a 1.0 bWAR player except for his outlier 2024 season.
There is an old saying in baseball that there’s no such thing as a bad one year contract. The Phillies would be paying 11mil for Bohm, hoping for another 3 bWAR season. In the end, it’s the mediocre defense that’s the issue with Bohm.
Bohm is probably a little overpriced for what he is, but this is also a Phillies team that should want minimal commitments for core performers as they assess if it’s possible to transition from the current core to a new one without imploding. Bohm won’t carry the team (which makes it easy for fans to whine about him), but he’s indisputably a core performer.
Why would they trade him? 1. They could look for another position on an expiring contract. 2. Prospects. 2 doesn’t make sense for the Phillies, and the matches for 1 are few and far between.
I’m sure the club will be open to opportunities, but the path of least resistance has him starting at 3B then transitioning into a 1B/DH platoon with Harper and another LHH if/when it’s Miller time. That, of course, assumes they fall short on Schwarber.
Long story short, the Phillies have a difficult offseason ahead of them, and I can’t imagine trading Bohm ranks high on the to do list.
Bohm racked up a ton of doubles last year and this year he didn’t even get 20. He needs to get back to smacking doubles for him to regain his value…
If I’m the Phillies I’ll keep him
Where’s the option of “they’ll try, but fail again?”
How can the Phillies trade a ballplayer who’s not under contract? Bohm doesn’t have 6 full seasons of service time, thus he’s not a free agent. He is controllable for another year via arbitration.
The only way the Phillies can let Bohm leave this winter is if they non-tender him, which they could do given his form in 2025.
He is under contract and yes they can and probably will, trade him.
They can trade him
Happens all the time
They have his rights
Bohm was on a 1-year contract that’s expired. He doesn’t have 6 full years service time, hence Phillies can only tender or non-tender. And he’s still arb-eligible if they tender him.
They can trade him before the tender deadline.
Happens all the time
They can also trade him after tendering him.
If the got Bo… I think you’re moving Trea to 3rd.
Nope; Trea is a better fielding SS than Bo
How is that even possible
Bohm’s not going anywhere. He brings to the table more than the older Bregman and Arenado at one-third the cost.
Castellanos shouldn’t be going anywhere either – except to left field. You don’t find many right-handed hitting outfielders that hit in the clutch, make the defensive plays they have to, have a cannon for an arm, stay healthy the entire season, and want to play every day.
Bohm and Castellanos carried the Phils for the first-half of the 2025 season. The Phils need to add a few more foot soldiers like these guys, instead of adding more generals.
Castellanos is one of the worst everyday outfielders in the game. Dueling with his manager also hurt. If he’s back I’m very disappointed.
Castellanos has a near perfect FA every season but he doesn’t get to as many balls as some of the faster outfielders. Hence, his poor defensive rating. He may have the best outfield arm in baseball. Whose fault was the feud with the manager?
After playing every inning in 2024, Castellanos complained about his playing time after sitting out a single inning in 2025. So I would say it was his fault.
phillies, Get your facts straight. Castellanos was benched, ending a long streak of games played. That’s what started the verbal sparring between him and Thomson. The platooning followed which led to more arguing.
Actually, if I remember correctly, he got benched the following game AFTER the verbal sparring when he was replaced defensively late in a game.
What are you smoking? I want some.
rider, Smoking is bad for your health. Honest. It’s been in all the papers.
@onthebucks…are we watching the same player? He’s been an average at best hitter since the Phillies signed him, and this year was his worst. He didn’t really hit in the clutch, provided little power, and his defense is atrocious. To suggest that he makes the defensive plays he has to…most major league players can catch balls hit right to them; Castellanos is so limited in his range and route-running that he’s rarely in position to make a challenging play.
And with the way he acted getting replaced defensively, the Phillies are better off without him next year. Addition by subtraction. Hopefully, he’s not back, the $20M be damned.
The Phils are currently looking at every conceivable way to improve the team and save money at the same time. Why? Because they already realize 2026 is going to be a rebuilding year – not rebuilding from scratch, but a partial rebuilding year nonetheless. Retaining Thomson for the last year of his contract may be part of Phils’ thinking in that regard.
The reality of the situation is Schwarber and Suarez are both gone. Nola will probably be traded and the Phils will probably be forced to keep Walker for the last year of his contract because of how much they’d have to pay to trade him.
The Phils realize they absolutely need to resign Realmuto, probably to a 3 year extension. Realmuto who has long been an advocate of catcher’s being paid more, is unlikely to give the Phils a hometown discount.
They also realize Wheeler’s salary has to be paid next season if he pitches or not, and most the the returning players will be due raises. All this points to the Phils needing to compromise at certain positions and save a few bucks for either Walker Beuhler or whatever additional starter they’ll have to sign.
The Phils know they will not be able to get a lot back for Castellanos, and they don’t want to subsidize his playing for another team, especially since right-handed batting outfielders of Castellanos’ caliber are not that easy to find. They also realize they’ll probably be able to decline Bader’s $10 million option, and resign him to a 2 -3 year contract for less than $10 million a year. Finally, they realize 2026 is the year of Justin Crawford. So, by moving Castellanos to left field, resigning Bader, and promoting Crawford, their outfield is already better than it was in 2025.
The Phils will still have to throw a bone to the fans, and they may do this if they can sign Pete Alonso to a 4-year contract for $100 million. This could allow the Phils to move Harper to DH or to the outfield and make Castellanos the primary DH. They could achieve similar improvement and flexibility by signing Cody Bellinger to a 3 year contract and playing him in he outfield with Castellanos again becoming the primary DH. All of sudden, an outfield of Crawford, Bader and either Bellinger or Harper doesn’t seem that bad. One final tweek could have the Phils moving Turner to the outfield which was his original position, promoting Miller to play SS, and making Castellanos the primary DH. So, now you have an outfield of Turner, Crawford, and Bader. Moving Castellanos to DH would undoubtedly improve his BA, HRs, RBIs and OBP, just as it did for Schwarber. Did you ever notice how Schwarber usually didn’t hit very well on the rare days he played left field defensively? Possibly moving Castellanos to DH would give him the same advantage.
2026 is going to be a transition year for the Phils, but a year that, with the right moves, could actually set the Phils on a steadier course to the world series. It probably won’t happen in 2026, but it will happen a lot sooner than if the Phils either stand pat or start spending mad money on players like Turner or Luis who, in the long run, will not get the Phils where they want to be.
Typographical error:
It probably won’t happen in 2026, but it will happen a lot sooner than if the Phils either stand pat or start spending mad money on players like Turner or Luis who, in the long run, will not get the Phils where they want to be.
Turner should be (Kyle) Tucker.
How would they trade Nola? They would have to eat a lot of his contract, and then sign another starter to replace him. No way that hapoens this soon after his extension. Nola, Harper, and Turner are Phillies for the foreseeable future.
onthebucks
Because they already realize 2026 is going to be a rebuilding year
============================
The Phillies figure to be the #2 team in baseball in 2026.
They don’t need to do a complete rebuild for 2026. MLB baseball will come to an end after the 2026 season anyway. Why do you think they kept Thomson as manager.
I don’t see the Phillies pulling back on spending or taking a step back. If anything, I see them perhaps even increasing spending. Keeping the roster together (or replacing players) does little to the overall payroll, but then in 2027 they have a ton of money coming off the books, including nearly $40M in dead weight. We also don’t know what the new CBA will be or if baseball will even be played in 2027 (I think it will, after a standoffish winter where each side gives a little, the luxury tax limits increase and penalties for not spending increase, but no salary cap).
They have no choice but to resign Realmuto.
Schwarber could go either way, and depending on what happens with him—if he’s signed for a ridiculous amount of money (close to $40AAV and/or 5+ years), fine, let him go. Otherwise, bring him back. I can see the rationale for Alonzo. He’d be a good fit.
I don’t see Bohm going anywhere. Sure, he’s probably never going to reach what his potential ceiling could be, but he’s a serviceable player, doesn’t make a ton, and there aren’t many replacements available,
I’ll add more later.
brady, Keep dreaming. Without a major change in philosophy, they’ll be very lucky if they’re the #2 team in the NL East in 2o26. Like I said way back in spring training when I said the 2025 team was not a championship team, the Phils of late have been built to beat up on the weak teams, but they can’t hold their own against real competition. To become real winners, they need more foot soldiers and fewer generals. Look at teams that have successful running games and hitters that can hit in the clutch, play solid defense, and have dependable pitching. They’re the teams that are still playing. Do you realize that many analysts have called Schwarber the Phils’ 2025 MVP? There were only 4 players in baseball who left more runners on base than Schwarber. Turner, Stott, and Castellanos were also in the Top 100 players who left runners stranded this season. The bottom line is, you can’t win games if you don’t score runs, and you can’t score runs if your don’t have the players to drive in runners. Home runs are nice, but the teams that can manufacture runs are the teams that win close games. The Phils need to understand this and start refitting the team with players who know how to run the bases, make other teams make mistakes, and grind out runs.
I agree 100% with your last statement, “The Phils need to understand this and start refitting the team with players who know how to run the bases, make other teams make mistakes, and grind out runs.”
I am so sick of Phillies teams being built with free swinging power hitters. And then when a guy does get on base it’s drop anchor in hopes the next guy gets his pitch and hits a HR. Get guys who know how to get on base and put pressure on the pitcher by keeping an eye on that base runner to force a bad pitch and then just hit the damn ball for a hit. We don’t need a HR every at bat.
“After a 2024 campaign where Bohm posted a 113 wRC+ with solid defense at third base en route to his first career All-Star appearance, he took a clear step backwards this year as he slashed just .287/.331/.409 (105 wRC+) with 11 homers, a 5.8% walk rate, a 16.3% strikeout rate, and less robust defensive metrics.
In other words, he regressed in virtually every aspect of his game”
Will someone at this website take a basic writing class. Why on earth do you continually compare two seasons or players using a different set of statistics?
Last winter supposedly they asked for mason miller in bohm trade
Do you think Philly would still be open to trading Bohm for Miller?
He’s an above average hitter
LOL
At times, Bohm has been the Phillies best hitter with runners on base, especially with two outs. But he doesn’t run and is an average fielder at best. I feel the Phillies need to change a lot, and Bohm is part of what’s changeable.
thereal,
2025 HRs BA RBIs OBP Salary
Arenado 12 .237 52 .289 $32.00 million
Bregman 18 .273 62 .360 $36.67 million
Bohm 11 ..287 59 .331 $ 7.70 million
So, which third baseman gives you the most bang for your buck?
Hint – It’s not Arenado or Bregman.
Final Thought – Bohm had the best stats across the boards in 2024 and was the NL All-Star starting third baseman.
Prediction – Bohm’s best days are yet to come.
My prediction is that his power continues to decline, and when taken out of Philly, his bat will too. My other prediction is he’ll be a super utility guy inside of 3 years.
That’s why teams are dying to trade for him. Right?
Logan Gilbert, George Kirby or Mason Miller last off-season? I’m not good with trade proposals, but im guessing Bohm was only a small piece in a prospective deal and some high end prospects would have been included?
Would’ve had to be, because if not, those are the most laughable proposals I’ve ever seen.
I feel like “Bohm” question is silly. Trading him neither frees up resources nor nets any real return.
Currently the Phils have 0 outfielders under contract that can play everyday. They have a hole at catcher, and their most productive hitter limits their roster flexibility by not being able to play the field regularly…and that’s only if they overpay to bring him back.
Harper and Turner can’t seem to stay healthy for a full season. And if you compare Harper’s time in Phila with Jayson Werth’s, they are basically the same player over a 4 year stretch. And consider Werth was the 4th or 5th best hitter on his teams (behind Rollins, Utley, Howard and Victorino).
They have a 2nd baseman with a legendary walk up song that seems to be settled in as a bottom of the line up hitter. Last year he was nursing an injury, but what’s the explanation for this season being about the same (a little worse according to WAR).
And so, here we are talking about whether or not to trade Bohm?
If I was betting I’d always say no to a trade proposal since most trades never happen even if they make sense. I think he will only be moved if they can sign Bregman.
Should they? Will they? No. They will non tender him. He has no value in trade. As usual the headline is different than the question.
Bohm is a guy you trade to a team like the White Sox that get him in the hope that he has a good enough first half of the season to trade him at the deadline
I think they’ll gauge whether he has trade value, and non-tender him if he doesn’t. I don’t see why you would sacrifice defense to play Bohm over Sosa, when Bohm just gave you only 32 extra base hits and 29 walks in 120 games.
I wonder if the Red Sox would give up Romy Gonzalez for Bohm. If Sosa slides over to play every day at third, Gonzalez would be the ideal platoon partner for Stott. The Sox already have another righthanded hitting 2B in Campbell.
The problem with Castellanos and Bohm is Dombrowski was trying to hit a scratch ticket trade last year.
Castellanos is more a salary dump for a team that wants him as a 1 year, RH DH/part time OF. To get anything interesting they are going to have to eat salary.
If a team believes Bohm can play 3B at a decent level then they could get a decent player back. It also comes down to do the Phillies believe Kemp can be the bridge to Miller.
Should they try to? Yes. Will they succeed? I don’t think so.
The Bohm to the Mariners was & is comical. Front of the rotation starters are much more expensive & valuable. Luis Castillo & his 4.71 road era are more in line with trade value. A solid #3
The Bohm to the Mariners made more sense last year when Bohm was coming off what looked like a breakout year. Now it looks like an aberration and Bohm just isnt any good.
Arenado could be a good fit for the Mariners. Him and either Burleson or Contreras. Cardinals could use Williamson.
Puke. I don’t see any planet where the Ms want Nolan Arenado wearing their jersey in 2026. If they want basically a glove-only 3B we already have Williamson and they seem to want an improvement over that. At this point in his career Arenado isn’t that type of player anymore.
King- I get what you’re trying to do here, but Arenado will be a .220 guy with 10 hrs from here on out in my opinion, and would be even worse in Seattle. Every team in baseball should stay far away from him IMO. He’s clearly in steep decline at this point.
Arenado was playing really well before he got hurt. And he didnt immediately go on the IL. Will he get healthy? Thats the question. But he was having a bounce back year in 2025 until he got hurt.
The Mariners just don’t buy veterans beyond their sell by date. (No matter how much the Cardinals eat of the contract)
Williamson is a platinum caliber glove, they will likely keep him long enough to see if the bat comes around. He’s a decent number 8 or 9 gamble in their lineup. I’d be shocked if anyone traded for Arenado. Too much decline likelihood to consider.
Platinum caliber glove? Dude Arenado actually has a platinum glove. You are just talking out your you know what.
If the Mariners were satisfied with Williamson why did they go get Suarez?
Power, which didn’t materialize. T-Mobile is the worst hitters park in all of mlb. Arenado would be lucky to stay above the Mendoza line there at this point in his career. Williamson’s calling card is his glove.

Arenado was playing really well before he got hurt last year. You clearly dont know that look it up.
And he’s a year older with a history of quad injuries on a bloated contract. Go try to fleece another team, the Mariners don’t want the Cardinal cast offs.
I think the question would’ve been better if it were a bit more open. “What will the Phillies do with Alec Bohm this offseason?” “Trade him, keep him, non tender him”. Personally I think it’s more likely that he’s non tendered. Unless the Phillies tender him, send money or just take back a lotto prospect as the return. Because I don’t see them getting much of anything for him. The same reasons they’d want to trade him for are things other teams are likely already well aware of.
Is it just me or does it seem unwise for Bregman to opt out of his contract? He had two very nice years of pay locked in and yet he thinks he’s going to find a bigger deal? Over 30, prone to injury and coming from a pretty good hitting environment would expect some regression.
Do they want to ? yes… Will they? – probably . They can find a few more takers with only one year before FA , but if they miss out on Bergman , is Bohm not better than most of the other options,at least until Miller is ready ?
The outfield is a bigger priority, with the setup guys in the BP next.
I suspect they will. But they shouldn’t. They’d be better off spending their time and money improving the outfield and building an actual bullpen.
To Ny
Get a dmn haircut….
Personally, I feel the Phillies should keep Bohm and trade Stott. Hear me out on the reasoning.
A) Bohm is a more consistent hitter and is capable of hitting against both lefties and righties. Stott has trouble hitting against lefties which causes him to be a platoon second baseman.
B) Bohm has shown improvements in fielding at third. Yes, Stott is overall a better fielder at his second base position than Bohm is at third. But, since Stott’s lack of hitting lefties causes him to platoon with Sosa at second against lefties. Which causes a drop in fielding at second which makes keeping Bohm over Stott a better option to maintain stronger fielding whether facing a righty or lefty when batting.
C) The Phillies are faced with the opportunity to bring up Aiden Miller. But he is blocked in being called up because of Trey Turner at Miller’s SS position. Miller has never played at 3B. As well, never played at 2B either. But transforming a SS to become a 2B is easier than to 3B.
So, by trading Stott and moving Miller over to 2B clears up all these areas of what to do to improve the team.
Harper can stay at 1B. Turner can stay at SS. Bohm stays at 3B. None of these positions change in hitting or fielding. Miller moves into 2B and strengthens the Phillies in hitting against righties and lefties with no need for platooning at 2B by keeping Stott.
It would be the ideal move. The only thing I can see this thought never coming to anyone’s mind is Harper (aka GM/owner voice of the Phillies) losing his best Las Vegas buddy at 2B.
ayeah, You bring up some good points. The Phils need to bring up Miller in 2026, but play him at shortstop because he is better defensively there than Turner. Bohm is not going anywhere. He’s one of the few things that are right with this current Phillies team. Turner could either be moved back to the outfield to make room for Miller on the infield or Stott has to go.
I personally thought Stott was going to be a much better player than he has become. He’s still good defensively, but he’s in the top 100 MLB players in leaving runners on base, and that’s something the Phils have to get away from. I think he has not reached his potential because he may not be taken as seriously as he needs to by opposing players. His appearance is terrible. He needs to learn how to shave and stop looking like high school was the last time soap and water touched his body. Also, that lollypop walk-up music of his is not AOK, and the Phils should probably put the song back in the can, and do the same for most of the lame walk-up songs the other players have.
The Phils should also ditch the Duranchilla spectacle because it’s bad enough the guy can’t successfully close as many games as he should, but what makes matters worse is the fans coming more to see the theatrics than to watch real ball players in action. I realize that pro sports has morphed into sports entertainment, but the Phils seem more concerned with the entertainment aspect than playing their chosen sport.
You’re also right about Harper having too much influence on this team. I still believe he is one of the hardest working players in baseball, but he has gotten away from the hard-nosed player image and gotten too much into the bling. The Phanatic shoes and elbow wraps belong on the Phanatic. Harper and all the rest of the Phils need to start wearing the same uniforms and spikes, and start looking like ball players again. Then, maybe, they’ll start playing like ball players again.
I agree. “I realize that pro sports has morphed into sports entertainment, but the Phils seem more concerned with the entertainment aspect than playing their chosen sport.” This Phillies team has become the WWE of entertainment. Take it back to being a baseball sport, not an entertainment show.
Bohm, Marsh, Stott will certainly be made available. Walker and Castellanos are available if there are any takers without having to eat 2/3 of their contracts.
EVery player on that team should be available. Everty. Single. One.
If you could get Dennis Santana from the Pirates for Bohm, do it.
Pirates could use a 3b, Phillies need a set up man. Romano, Robertson and Kirkering are not the answer in the 8th.
Romano is NOT the answer in any inning.
They should keep him. Miller doesn’t look ready. He had 116 Ks in 405 ABs in AA, albeit at a young age. He also has 46 errors in 1,783 IPs, combined with no experience at 3rd.
I don’t think Bohm is going to be really good or anything, but imho, it would be a mistake to open up another hole when you have two other players to sign, and maybe need another OF.
It actually blows my mind that they think Miller is gonna be the next third baseman yet he plays shortstop every single game. He’s not ready yet anyway but in 2026 if he’s not playing third base every game this organizationonce again proves they have no clue what they are doing because Aidan Miller is not good enough to be an every day shortstop.
It reminds me a bit of Lawler on AZ. They promoted him even though they had three IFs that were definitely going to play fulltime, instead of him getting reps in the minors to eventually replace Suarez. They eventually demoted him, but it was a complete waste of time.
They can trade Alec Bohm, but he’s not close to their bigger issue. With Zach Wheeler out they need another starting pitcher. They need to upgrade the bullpen. They need another outfielder. They need to worry about what they’re gonna do with JT. If I’m the GM, I worry about those issues way before I think about Bohm
What is not mentioned is Bohm is projected at a staggering $10.3m in his final arb3 season. In the end, Bohm is non-tendered.
Close enough, welcome back Samuel.
Miller isn’t solving the HR/power problem. So if their plan is to move Bohm, and bring up Miller, they might as well move Bryce to RF, sign Alonso to play first. Crawford is probably unlikely to get more than HRs too so one more acquisition for the OF is necessary if Bader is gone and Casty is traded. Assuming Schwarber and JT are reupped.
A one-for-one swap with the Pirates for Mitch Keller might make some sense for both teams.
A great fit in Boston after Bregman
Mariners trade Luke Raley for Alec Bohm. Thoughts?
Raley is going into year 1 of arbitration and can provide LH bat in either OF corner plus spell Harper/ give him DH days.
Mariners get a year of Bohm at 3B (plus his potential backup of 1B and a resigned Naylor). Williamson goes to Tacoma to work on more defensive versatility and the team waits to see where Colt Emerson plays in 2027.
