The Angels announced that they’ve claimed right-handed reliever Cody Laweryson off waivers from the Twins. That’ll bring the Halos’ 40-man roster count to 34 players while dropping the Twins to 38.
Laweryson, 28 next May, was a 14th-round pick by Minnesota back in 2019 and made his MLB debut this past season, tossing 7 2/3 innings and allowing one run late in the season. The 6’4″ righty punched out seven of 26 opponents and didn’t issue a walk. He averaged 93.2 mph on his four-seamer, mixing in a cutter and changeup to round out a three-pitch repertoire.
That marked the end of a quality all-around season for the Maine native. He split the remainder of the season between Double-A and Triple-A, working to a combined 2.86 ERA with a 24.6% strikeout rate, 7.7% walk rate and 46.3% ground-ball rate in 44 innings of minor league relief.
Laweryson was only added to the 40-man roster after Minnesota gutted its bullpen at this year’s trade deadline, shipping out five relievers for a series of prospects and controllable young big leaguers. Minnesota will likely trim several more names from the 40-man roster in the days ahead, as the bullpen for the final couple months was composed almost entirely of journeyman stopgaps to get through the end of the season.

Call up a Lawyer, son.
His dad’s a lawyer
He pitched pretty well in his short stint with the Twins. I am surprised the Twins tried to put him through waivers.
September innings with a dead team….yay, Cody
Laweryson appears to be a be a 2 pitch pitcher, mostly fastballs and some change ups. He fastball averages 93 mph, which mediocre. The lack of a breaking ball is a concern. My concern would be he is 27 and hasn’t learned an effective breaking pitch. He stats look great in the 5 games he appeared, but that is just a very small sample size. I would be skeptical of long term success.
Step one towards their second WS
Third— we won the 2020 WS.
Fitting the Angels could use another lawyer
Angels Must Shut Down Any Trade Talk for Zach Neto—Especially from the Yankees
As the offseason heats up, one thing needs to be crystal clear in Anaheim: Zach Neto is not for sale. But the Los Angeles Angels are for sale.
Yes, the Yankees (and probably half the league) are circling. Yes, Neto’s value is sky-high. And yes, the Angels are in roster-retooling mode. But let’s not get cute. Unless Brian Cashman is offering a player clearly better than Neto—and good luck finding one—this conversation ends before it starts.
Neto isn’t just a promising shortstop. He’s the most electric player in an Angels uniform right now. He plays with fire, flair, and a chip on his shoulder. He’s the kind of guy you build around, not dangle in trade talks.
If the Angels are serious about turning the page, they should take a page from their own past. Remember the Anthony Rendon contract? If we were willing to throw that kind of money at a declining veteran, why not invest in a 23-year-old cornerstone with upside, swagger, and fan appeal?
Lock him up. Extend him. Make him the face of the next great Angels team.
Because trading Zach Neto in a lateral move would be a franchise fumble
Talk about a crazy post.
This organization talks all Neto all the time. They are doing everything they can to make him the face of the Angels. The hype is so bad, it borders the absurd.
They are not trading him
@JB Neto isn’t going to be traded. He is the Angels best player currently. Recent history has shown, the Angels are reluctant to trade their best player. We have seen it play out with both Trout and Ohtani.
I am not the least bit concern about the Angels trading Neto. I can see the Angels trading either Ward or Adell this off season. They will need to add a starter or two. Nothing amazing, probably someone that is mediocre and can eat innings like a Lorenzen or Paddack..
They will need to retool the bullpen. With Janson leaving and Detmers moving to the rotation., the bullpen looks extremely weak. The good relievers will go to the contenders and the Angels will search search the bargain bin and hope for the best.
I don’t see the Angels doing much for CF. I expect Rada be the CF by mid season next year possibly sooner. The only thing holding him back is lack of power. At worst, Rada will be a good glove caliber CF.
Lastly, the Angels will need to add 3B. I can see the Angels maybe looking something a little more long term here since they do not have an imminent prospect in the near future. Possibly something like a Eugenio Suarez on a 3 year deal, though I am sure others will be in the mix.
They are working very hard to market him to the fans.
He’s an entertaining player. He’s easy to market. He’s not going anywhere.
He seems to be feeling the Angels blues, though. After 4 years, he is gone for sure.
If this is a Maddox move, it’s probably a good one.
If this is a Minasian move, it’s probably terrible.
Good move? Do these moves ever move the needle? It’s the same garbage every year. Dumpster diving. Where could they possibly be going? They need to rebuild the entire bullpen. A minimum of two starters and they really need three. Third base. Second base. CF. This team is exhausting. Kikuchi should be there #4 and Soriano their #5. Sign three legit starters–if they want to win. Trade Ward for a third baseman.
No. They never do,and that’s because Minasian was making the moves.
I wouldn’t trust Minasian to run a hot dog stand.
Love it. He will fit right in. Hard to believe they landed mike maddux. The fixer. That real tall pitcher, his name starts with a K, maddux can fix him in 5 minutes. That right there, would be a huge addition.
You can trade Zack Neto to the Yankees for the sophomore jinx ss, and some pitching like the estevez trade. You can trade Taylor ward for Brady singer . You can sign Jansen
Yeah no thank you. Ward is better than Singer. They should have traded ward at the deadline but ofc they wanted to teach the kiddos what pennant fever is all about. But in thinking that they should’ve traded them all the Dodgers. Freakin’ Angels
Yes you have my permission
Another year of garbage bin dumpster diving. So tired of it. Dodgers don’t do it. When has it worked?
Starting to reshape the team for next year, he seems like a solid hire.
Don’t Bet the Farm on Arte Opening the Checkbook for Japan’s Next Star
Another week, another Angels rumor—this time, it’s a whisper about a potential third base import from Japan. The name hasn’t hit the mainstream yet, but the buzz is building. And while the idea of another Japanese star joining the Halos might stir Shohei nostalgia
Arte Moreno’s track record doesn’t exactly scream “aggressive rebuild.” After all, this is the same owner who let Shohei Ohtani walk to the Dodgers for $700 million without a serious counteroffer. The Angels haven’t sniffed the playoffs since 2014, and they’re once again buried in the AL West cellar. Moreno flirted with selling the team in 2023, only to backpedal and double down on the status quo
Sure, he’s made splashy moves in the past—Pujols, Hamilton, Rendon—but those were more about headlines than long-term vision. And with the fanbase growing restless and the franchise in flux, it’s hard to imagine Moreno greenlighting another high-risk, high-dollar international signing without a clear plan.
So while the idea of a Japanese third baseman lighting up Anaheim is fun to dream about, history says: don’t hold your breath.
He can’t play third base. For better of for worse, Slugger Schanuel is the firstbaseman.
The Angels passed on Jorge Polanco last offseason and instead signed third baseman Yoán Moncada to a one-year deal.
I really thought Jorge Polanco would’ve been the perfect fit for the Angels last year—switch-hitter, versatile glove, playoff-tested. But instead, the Halos rolled the dice on Yoán Moncada, fresh off a 40-at-bat season
I get the upside play, but Polanco brought steadier value and leadership—exactly what this infield needed. Moncada’s got tools, sure, but the Angels didn’t need another “maybe.” They needed a “definitely.” And Polanco was sitting right there.
Come on Angels what are you waiting for sign Jorge Polanco
There is a lot not to like about Moreno, but the fact he doesn’t bring in known PED users isn’t one of them.
I don’t want to root for a known cheater. I’m glad he doesn’t bring in known cheaters.
