Minor Moves: James Skelton, Chris Seddon

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | January 9, 2012 at 3:31pm CDT

Here's where we'll keep track of today's minor moves…

  • The Nationals agreed to sign catcher James Skelton to a minor league deal, MLB.com's Bill Ladson tweets. The 26-year-old spent the 2011 season with Cincinnati's top affiliates, posting a .221/.360/.346 line in 174 plate appearances.
  • The Indians announced that they signed left-hander Chris Seddon to a minor league contract that inlcudes an invitation to Spring Training. The 28-year-old has MLB experience with the 2007 Marlins and the 2010 Mariners, but spent the 2011 season at the Triple-A level, where he posted a 6.27 ERA with 7.2 K/9 and 4.2 BB/9 in 149 1/3 innings of work. He'll enter Spring Training as a starter and at the moment it looks as though he'll provide depth at Triple-A, tweets MLB.com's Jordan Bastian.

NL Central Notes: Reds, Friedman, McCutchen

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | May 4, 2011 at 2:28pm CDT

Links from the NL Central, before Pirates starter Kevin Correia pitches against his former teammates in San Diego…

  • The Reds signed left-handed reliever James Adkins and catcher James Skelton to minor league deals, according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America (on Twitter). Adkins, 25, has a 4.76 ERA with 7.0 K/9 and 4.6 BB/9 in parts of five minor league seasons. Skelton, also 25, has a .267/.396/.368 line in parts of seven minor league seasons.
  • The Reds also activated Fred Lewis from the disabled list and optioned Jeremy Hermida to Triple-A, according to the Associated Press (via the Boston Herald).
  • The father of Rays executive VP Andrew Friedman is involved with a group that has interest in buying the Astros, but Friedman says those dealings don’t impact his job in Tampa Bay, according to Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times.
  • Andrew McCutchen left no doubt that he wants to continue playing for the Pirates when speaking to Jared Macdonald of The Good Point. "I plan on being here, that's the mindset. This is where I want to be, " he said. "I don't want to go anywhere, and I'm going to be here for as long as they want me to be here." The Pirates are discussing an extension with McCutchen, though no agreement appears imminent.

D’Backs Retain Skelton, Deal Brooks Brown

By | April 2, 2009 at 2:04pm CDT

According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, the Diamondbacks have managed to keep Rule 5 pick James Skelton.  The club dealt minor league right-hander Brooks Brown to the Tigers in order to retain the catcher's rights.

Brown, 23, finished with a 4.18 ERA in 26 starts for Double-A Mobile last season.  Skelton, also 23, hit just .150/.244/.175 in 40 at-bats this spring.
