Rosenthal On Strasburg, Arroyo, Zobrist

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports says most believe the Nationals will sign Stephen Strasburg to a record deal of about $15-18MM this summer. Here are the details:

Rosenthal describes doomsday scenarios for the Nationals and Strasburg to show that the two sides need to come to an agreement.
The Reds can't even consider dealing Bronson Arroyo until Edinson Volquez returns. If Homer Bailey comes up and pitches well, it would be easier for the Reds to part with a starter.
If Akinori Iwamura can return this year, Ben Zobrist may become a super utilityman again. Rosenthal wonders if the AL OPS leader is more valuable when he plays multiple positions.
The Brewers, who would like to add pitching, could talk with the Braves, who have had interest in Corey Hart in the past.
Nobody's interested in Jeff Francoeur, but the Braves have enviable pitching depth that would entice the Brewers.

Royals Still Scouting Jeff Francoeur

According to Mark Bowman at MLBlogs, the Royals retain interest in Braves OF Jeff Francoeur and are keeping an eye on him this weekend. However, Bowman notes that if a deal were to happen, the Braves might have to be willing to take on the $12MM owed to Jose Guillen.

Guillen is owed another $12MM in 2010 before his contract expires. The Royals' interest in Francoeur is well-known, though supposedly not everyone in the KC front office is keen on him. It isn't clear if the Braves would be willing to add any payroll, let alone any payroll that would involve a potential headcase like Guillen.

Marlins Rumors: Ross, Hermida, Uggla

MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports that the Marlins aren't about to pull the trigger and deal away arbitration-eligible players in an effort to trim payroll. Instead, they feel ready to make a run at a postseason berth. Here are the specifics from Frisaro's blog post:

The Marlins aren't actively shopping Dan Uggla, Cody Ross or Jeremy Hermida.
Frisaro suggests the Braves offered Charlie Morton and Jeff Francoeur for Hermida before the Nate McLouth trade.
The Marlins always look to obtain pitching in return for their players.
The Braves are still looking to add a bat.

The Marlins are 32-34 now, third in the NL East and just 3.5 games behind the Cardinals in the Wild Card race. Don't look for them to deal anyone away unless they fall out of contention.

MLB.com's Mark Bowman wonders if Jeff Francoeur might end up with the Marlins after all. He can imagine a Francoeur-Jeremy Hermida swap. Personally, I don't see the Marlins making that deal.
Adam Kilgore of the Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox are set to sign their second round pick, pitcher Alex Wilson.
MLB.com's Matthew Leach reports that the Cardinals agreed to sign their second rounder, Robert Stock, and 31 other players they drafted.
The Cards haven't reached an agreement with first rounder Shelby Miller yet, and, as Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports, that's no surprise.
As Alex Speier of WEEI.com reports, Boston's director of player personnel, Mike Hazen heard Clay Buchholz's comments and remains sure that the righty wants to help the Red Sox win titles.
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says the Giants could really use a power bat.

Marlins Rumors: Hermida, Francoeur, Ross

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald has a couple of baseball-related updates in his most recent "Florida Sports Buzz" column:

The Marlins have received several calls about Jeremy Hermida, but the offers "haven't been enticing." Sounds like it'll take a good chunk of talent to land the 25-year-old outfielder, who is hitting .276/.373/.421 with eight home runs and 29 RBI in 228 at-bats this season.
Altanta offered Jeff Francoeur straight up for Cody Ross last week, but the Marlins quickly declined. For reference, Francoeur, 25, is batting .250/.282/.345 this season with four home runs and 29 RBI. Ross, 28, is batting .270/.320/.482 with 10 home runs and 39 RBI.

If the Braves are truly shopping Francoeur, what other clubs make sense? A change of scenery would probably serve him well.

Rosenthal On Yankees, Angels, Glavine

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Yankees will eventually "target the best available late-inning relievers." Here are some names to watch and the rest of Rosenthal's rumors:

The Yankees have already expressed interest in Huston Street.
The Rockies, on an eight-game win streak, are just 4.5 games back in the NL Wild Card race and don't want to deal Street until closer to July 31st.
Chad Qualls and Jose Valverde could be options for the Yankees, but both have dealt with health issues and the Yankees would have to be certain they're healthy.
The Yankees could pursue Danys Baez.
Angels GM Tony Reagins says other teams are calling him regularly, but there's "nothing on the horizon."
The Angels could use help just about everywhere and they could deal from depth in the middle infield and behind the plate.
Brandon Wood has been playing some first base in Triple A.
Andy Sonnanstine and Jeff Niemann could be traded if the Rays don't start winning.
The White Sox may not receive good prospects in return if they deal Jermaine Dye, since "few clubs, if any" can afford to take on his $11.5MM salary and surrender top young players in the same deal.
Rosenthal hears that any grievance Tom Glavine files against the Braves would be out of principle; he would donate any money awarded to charity.
Gregor Blanco could play right field for the Braves if they deal Jeff Francoeur.
Rosenthal heard from one scout who was "decidedly unimpressed" with Doug Davis.

Patrick Newman at NPB Tracker passes on a report saying Kazuo Fukumori will be released by the Rangers. He made four appearances for them last year, but hasn't pitched in the majors this season.

ESPN.com's Rob Neyer responds to Eddie's post about the mystery shortstop the Red Sox have interest in, saying it's "probably not" Yunel Escobar.

Heyman On Strasburg, D’Backs, Penny

Jon Heyman of SI.com anticipates some memorable negotiations between the Nationals, Scott Boras and Stephen Strasburg. Here's what Heyman heard about Strasburg along with the rest of his rumors:

Boras is still expected to demand $50MM for Strasburg.
Think that's a lot? Some think Strasburg would command $100MM as a free agent.
Executives generally guess he'll end up signing for more than $20MM, but not by much.
One NL exec said he expects the deal to reach $30MM.
Strasburg could always pitch in Japan or for an independent team if he doesn't sign, but Heyman imagines he'd much rather join a major league franchise immediately.
The Pirates could draft catcher Tony Sanchez with the fourth pick.
The D'Backs could deal Chad Qualls and Tony Pena at the deadline.
Boston seems "in a hurry" to deal Brad Penny.
One Red Sox person was not impressed by what he saw from Jeff Francoeur.
It's probably too early for the Rangers to release Vicente Padilla.
