Lenny DiNardo

Athletics Sign Lenny DiNardo

By Mike Axisa | May 21, 2011 at 10:55am CDT

The Athletics have signed Lenny DiNardo according to Mike Ashmore of The Hunterdon County Democrat (on Twitter). He will report to Triple-A.

DiNardo, 31, had been pitching with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League after the Red Sox released him from his minor league contract at the end of Spring Training. He had a 5.09 ERA in 17 2/3 innings with the Ducks before catching back on with the A's, with whom he spent 2007-2008. DiNardo last appeared in the big leagues in 2009 and owns a 5.36 ERA in 257 MLB innings.

The A's are dealing with injuries to Dallas Braden (shoulder), Rich Harden (lat), Brandon McCarthy (shoulder), and Tyson Ross (oblique), so DiNardo will serve as rotation depth in Triple-A.

Long Island Ducks Sign Lenny DiNardo

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | April 14, 2011 at 10:39am CDT

The Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League signed left-hander Lenny DiNardo, the team announced on its website. The Red Sox signed DiNardo to a minor league deal in December and he pitched for Boston this spring, but did not make the club's Opening Day roster.

After signing with the A's last year, the 31-year-old spent the 2010 season in the minors and posted a 3.53 ERA with 5.3 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 in 51 innings as a starter. DiNardo, who last appeared in the Major Leagues for the 2009 Royals, has experience in parts of six big league seasons. He has a 5.36 ERA with 4.6 K/9 and 4.0 BB/9 in 257 career innings for the Red Sox, A's and Royals.

The Ducks' roster includes former big leaguers Ruddy Lugo, J.R. House, Lew Ford, John Rodriguez and, as of Monday, Duaner Sanchez.

Red Sox Sign Lenny DiNardo

By Mike Axisa | December 15, 2010 at 10:01pm CDT

The Red Sox have brought back a familiar face, signing lefty Lenny DiNardo to a minor league contract according to WEEI.com's Rob Bradford. He originally broke in with Boston back in 2004.

DiNardo, 31, owns a 5.36 ERA in 257 big league innings, most of which came as a member of the Athletics. He spent last season with Oakland's Triple-A affiliate and hasn't appeared in the big leagues since the end of the 2009 season with the Royals. DiNardo has experience both as both a starter and reliever, though he's performed considerably better coming out of the bullpen.

A’s Sign Lenny DiNardo

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | January 8, 2010 at 3:25pm CDT

The A's signed lefty Lenny DiNardo to a minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. DiNardo, a "popular guy" in the clubhouse, returns to the A's after spending last year in Kansas City.

The 30-year-old pitched for the A's in 2007-08 and had his most successful major league stint in Oakland. He managed a 4.61 ERA in 154.1 innings over the course of his two seasons by the Bay. The A's will be able to retain DiNardo as an arbitration-eligible player after next season if they so choose, since he won't have enough service time to file for free agency.

Not only did the A's sign DiNardo today, they lost Jay Marshall to the Mets on waivers and designated Tommy Everidge for assignment. Click here for more on which infielders the A's are pursuing.

Royals Prefer Trades

By Tim Dierkes | November 12, 2009 at 4:15pm CDT

Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star dishes on the Royals…

  • Dayton Moore…step away from the free agent market.  The Royals are moving toward trades, with an eye on the long-term.  Owner David Glass says the plan is to "turn over some of the club."  Moore already made a nice move in flipping Mark Teahen for Josh Fields and Chris Getz.
  • Dutton again mentions the talks between the Dodgers and Royals on a possible A.J. Ellis for Alberto Callaspo deal.  Ellis, 29 in April, posted OBPs over .436 in Triple A for 2008-09.
  • The Royals are probably stuck with Jose Guillen, but David DeJesus and Gil Meche could be trade chips.  Dutton says the Royals prefer to keep Meche though.
  • Dutton says the Royals are more likely to trade for a center fielder than to re-sign Coco Crisp.
  • Via Twitter, Dutton says lefty Lenny DiNardo and reliever Yasuhiko Yabuta elected free agency.

Odds & Ends: Giants, Phillies, Hernandez

By Mark Polishuk | November 10, 2009 at 5:42pm CDT

Some news and notes from around the majors….

  • Giants blogger Grant of The McCovey Chronicles notes the potential downsides for San Francisco if they were to sign Jason Bay, Jermaine Dye and/or Bengie Molina.
  • With rumors again swirling that the Phillies will make a play for Roy Halladay, Scott Lauber of the News Journal looks at a Baseball America listing of Philadelphia's top prospects, with an eye towards which of these youngsters could head to Toronto in a trade.
  • Speaking of Halladay, The Seattle Times' Larry Stone believes that if the Mariners do decide to move Felix Hernandez, they will do so without being as public as the Blue Jays were about dealing their ace last summer.
  • Dick Kaegel of MLB.com reports that the Royals outrighted pitchers Yasuhiko Yabuta and Lenny DiNardo to Triple-A Omaha, leaving them both eligible for free agency.  Neither move was a surprise, particularly given that Kansas City already declined Yabuta's $4MM option for 2010.
  • Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles signed catcher Michel Hernandez.  The 31-year-old Hernandez will get an invite to spring training to vie for the backup catcher's job.  Hernandez has a .237/.286/.305 career line in 127 plate appearances with Tampa Bay and New York.
