Blue Jays Acquire Mike Jacobs

By Tim Dierkes | July 30, 2010 at 1:10pm CDT

The Blue Jays acquired Mike Jacobs from the Mets for a player to be named later, tweets Andy McCullough of the Newark Star-Ledger.  Jacobs, 29, has spent most of the season at Triple A.  He's had multiple stints at the level, but this year he's hitting .260/.313/.478 in 371 plate appearances.

Jacobs cleared waivers and accepted a Triple A assignment after being designated in April.

Just a depth move. He’ll take Wallace’s 1B spot in AAA.

Just did – don’t feel any different than before. EDIT: I actually feel worse.Overbay will most likely finish the year in a Jays uniform.

Jacobs for JWoww. Put her in a bikini, heels and the Mr Met head. Have her stand on the dugout. I’m all for this deal.

hopefully this is because other moves (buck/overbay) trades are in the work. dont see the logic if its just to replace wallace at AAA, are the jays so hard up for prospects at 1b that they cant promote someone?

No first bagger in the jays system deserves to be moved up to triple A, the only offensive players that should probably be up in triple A are Jeroloman(Catcher, old for his level, major league caliber defense) and Thames but he isn’t a first basemen and the promotion is debatable.

ohh thank you! I have been wondering who the Jays were going to use at 1B next season to replace Wallace, now I know. phew I will sleep a lot easier now, this is awesome! good job AA, watch out Yankees!!
    ^sarcasm^

It’s unfortunate people are going to assume this has any effect on the TORONTO Blue Jays. I see this is just someone who will take over 1B in AAA and that’s it. I doubt Jacobs has any playing time in Toronto next season. he does have 15 HR in AAA but with this line- .260/.313/.478/.791

Nice guy and a clubhouse favorite. Unfortunately, those two things don’t translate into the ability to know the strike zone or make consistent contact.

Jacobs will fill the void at Triple A for the time being.

Once Overbay is traded, it will clear up room on the roster, where the jays will either call up a pitcher or settle with Jacobs as a bat of the bench.

Another scenario is that Lind Moves to first from DH for this season and the forthcoming.

    GO JAYS

That player to be named later is actually Mike Jacobs. So in the end Mike Jacobs goes to Toronto for a weeks vacation only to end up back in Buffalo.

Guessing Jake will hit a few HR’s for the Jays and then all of a sudden turn into some kind of retread the Fan base thinks is worth a top prospect judging by reactions to what have seen so far from fellow retreads like Gregg.

Fish got the cpl decent seasons out of Jacobs power wise. He does not know how to take a walk, can barely field the position (1B) and is a strikeout machine.

If could get the guy to not swing at every off speed pitch and take some, he *might* be able to stick around some AL team as a DH, but that’s about it.
