Padres Extend Bud Black

By Tim Dierkes | July 19, 2010 at 11:02am CDT

11:02am: GM Jed Hoyer officially announced Black's extension, according to a team press release.

7:27am: The Padres will announce a three-year extension for manager Bud Black today, reports MLB.com's Corey Brock.  The deal also includes club options for 2014 and '15.

This is Black's fourth season managing the team, and many labeled it a rebuilding year after the '09 Jake Peavy trade.  Instead, the Padres have the best record in the National League and are buyers at the trade deadline.

Good for him. He deserves it.

He definitely does. And then this time next season there’ll be a post about the Padres “considering cutting ties with manager Black” when they’re back to Earth. I hope it doesn’t happen like that though.

They’ve been one of the best stories in baseball this year.

well deserved for BB. Unfortunately, most people don’t realize the turnaround the padres have made though because of a lack of coverage from certain high powered networks.

Agreed. They are one of the most exciting teams to watch lately if you’re a true baseball fan. That is one of the best bullpens I have seen in a long time.

Of course the (future) manager of the year deserves an extension. Black has been fantastic, especially with the resources has had to “work with”. A great usage of the young players along with the “Vets”.

I am so glad that Boche is driving Gigante fans as crazy as he did San Diegans. He does love old broken down vets who are hitting .200. You might as well trade away all your prospects, because he will never play them. He also loves to play all the bench players at once – as a giveaway game in the series. With Black, we get none of that.

The minions of Scioscia are running baseball! Black, Maddon, who’s next? HATCHER? Just kidding.

Scioscia is one fat dude, he’s got to be pushing 350.

Where did that come from? How is Scioscia’s weight relevant?!
