Still, one of the best picks of the draft. The Cardinals simply let Cox come to them and had an outstanding draft even though they didn’t sign Wilson.

I really thought the Sox were going to take him with their first pick. Not sure why he got a ML deal, his defensive position is up in the air atm.

I could be wrong, but I think he wanted a Pedro Alvarez deal.

Wow a Major League deal?? This guy has some questions. Can’t believe they are putting him on the 40 man.

I’ll bet dollars to donuts he’s a better use of the 40-man than Aaron Miles.

How about getting rid of the defensive joke known as Skip Schumaker? The only reason Schumaker even gets playing time is because TLR has fallen in love with him.

I hope Cox comes up through the system quickly so we can get rid of these jokers that we currently have at 2B (Schumaker, Lopez, Miles, etc).

How soon can a guy come up? Just asking bc the cards are having issues at 3B

Cox is the real deal! He blistered pitchers at the College World Series this year although he was playing injured. He was the best hitter in college baseball this past season. More athletic than Brett Wallace, this guy has a plus arm and surprising speed. He even will steal you a few bases. With the Cardinals’ problem at 3B, and David Freese’s serious ankle injury, this guy may be a year away from starting at Busch!

I’ve heard that he is a better defensive 2B.

he signed for more then almost all the picks in front of him, including alot of the top 10 picks. No wonder he slid so far down. Happy for cardinals, but signing for over 3 times over slot is crazy. I didn’t think his defense was anything special, nor did he have great power, just good hitting. Am I wrong?

He really fell into the Cards lap. In every mock draft he was #5-10 overall. He had 4 errors last season at Arkansas. He hit 10 homeruns in 2010 in 2009 he is 18 homeruns, but hit for a lower average. He has serious power, but didn’t use it alot at Arkansas, but when he needed to he capitalized. This is a very good move for the Cards.

Which really is sad. Wilson fairly ready for pro-ball. I wish Wilson the best of luck in college. I bet he is a top 3 pick when he comes out of college (assuming he stays healthy).

So, this might sound dumb, but if they signed him to a ML deal, does that mean they are putting him on the active roster?

He’ll be going on the 40-Man Roster. Don’t know why they signed him to a major league contract though.

I think he gets an crack at making the ML team out of spring training next season.

My guess is that he will be up next June.

With the serious ankle injury to David Freese leaving him uncertain about playing next year, the Cardinals might see enough in Zack Cox to believe that he is ready. He was the top hitter in the NCAA last season. He also has a plus arm and is much more athletic than Brett Wallace! He knows that he’ll have to earn it. But this kid crushed pitchers at the College World Series this past season, although he played injured the entire time! He’s a stud! The Cardinals’ farm system doesn’t have anyone else even close to this kid at 3B!

I’ve heard Cox is better at 2B, so he can play 2B when he comes up. Start Matt Carpenter at 3B next season, if David Freese isn’t ready for the start of the 2011 season. Or sign a 3B in free agency. Then get rid of Schumaker or have him be an OF again next season. Re-sign Lopez (hasn’t been that bad, plus he’s better coming off the bench, can’t start as many games as he once could). And re-sign Miles (he’s underrated, and has been doing well for the Cardinals). As of now Miles is batting 322. Lopez is better at 2B, than he is at 3B. And the Cardinals best to 2B’s as of now are Lopez and Miles. Schumaker is a better OF.

He is better at 2B but the Cards are set on letting him try out 3rd when he first gets to the minors(/majors).
