Diamondbacks Willing To Deal Prospects

By Luke Adams 2 | December 7, 2011 at 8:27pm CDT

Although GM Kevin Towers was reluctant to move any prospects at this year's July trade deadline, he's coming around on the idea this winter, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. Towers said today that he'd be willing to deal from the farm system in an effort to strengthen the big league club for another playoff run.

"We see an opportunity in the next couple of years, and this is just our eyes, the way we view it," Towers said. "This is probably an opportune time to hopefully stay on top if we make the right moves and are able to make our club better, even if it means giving up prospects."

Earlier today, we heard that the Diamondbacks had discussed acquiring Gio Gonzalez or Trevor Cahill from the Athletics.

the question is which ones? Skaggs and Goldschmidt are probably off limits and Bauer and Bradley can’t be traded

They can be traded but they would just have to be a PTBNL right? Like Pomeranz for Jimenez

No, not at this time of the year. PsTBNL have to be announced up to a maximum of six months after the trade.

What in the world are the Phillies supposed to do with Goldschmidt?

Eh kinda have me at a stalemate, transition him to 3B but that could be a risk move.

There is no chance Goldschmidt could even moderately handle third base. He’s already a solidly below average first baseman.

That’d be one hell of a deal for the DBacks, simply speaking value wise. But that would leave the team without a viable first base option. Maybe they could sign someone like Willingham to play first.

would they be after pitching? Maybe they want Wandy? I heard the Marlins were interested. With Beuhrle signing though that interest maybe gone.

well there are only a hand full of pitchers available and about 20 teams looking for pitchers lol. I figured Wandy might cost less in terms of prospects instead of having to give up two of them for Gio or someone

WANDY SUCKS! Okay he doesnt suck, but we wouldnt trade one of our top 5 prospects for him. Corbin and Davidson is the most I’d go.

I don’t even see the team needing to make any trades, get something done with Kuroda and get another bullpen arm.
Parker Skaggs and Bauer are pretty much ready IMO.

KT, please don’t make this like the Haren trade.. let’s keep who we have. Maybe put Parker in the bullpen?

If the opportunity presented itself again, I would do that Haren trade a million times over. Brett Anderson is a pitcher whose career has been marred by injuries, Carlos Gonzalez hasn’t hit well on the road, Chris Carter is being eaten alive by strikeouts, and Aaron Cunningham, Dana Eveland, and Greg Smith are nobodies, while Dan Haren continues to be an impeccably durable ace while being paid under market value.

Their pitching pretty good i say they need a bat or two,i pure power hitter and another guy who hits for average. They got bye with as a average hitting team last year they won’t get the same results this year if they don’t get a little more hitting,at the very least a good power hitting clean up type. Why trade prospects go get one of the big dogs to play first let goldshimdt do some work from the bench and develope a lil more.Prince would be a nice fit…say what u want about the guy but he produces every year.

There’s nothing more for Goldschmidt to learn at the minor league level or on the bench, he hit fantastic last season with the Diamondbacks and was always a force to be reckoned with.  I don’t understand why you think that the team needs to reconsider their lineup.  You have Hill, JUSTIN UPTON, Drew, Montero AND Goldschmidt; Montero who of which is the best hitting catcher outside of Brian McCann.

But if gio was really available u gotta go get him…but it sounds like he isn’t unless u are willing to pay a kings ransom….there a few middle road type pitcher available if they really want another guy…probably get one of these guys to pitch the back end of the rotation fairly cheap, maholm would be nice or even a cheap canidate like  wells from the cubs could be had for a middle of the road prospect they have said they would part with him to try to rebuild the farm.

dempster another cub that could be had and the cubs probably eat half his salary just to clear some payroll and he has been a very solid 2 for them   a perfect #4 for them considering he is getting a bit older but he stays healthy and strikes a lot out and eats innings always get 6 or 7 out of him

These kids Cowgill and Gillespie, RH OF prospects should be sure to interest Atlanta, think JJ would appeal out west? I find Ryan Roberts one of the more enviable players in baseball personally but I doubt he would leave for less than a package.

Not sure why the Dbacks would consider moving Bauer, Skaggs or Parker. With Kennedy and Hudson already they can have a very good, young rotation in the near future. And in the NL West, as long as you can average more than 1 run a game thats good enough for contention

I absolutely love the fact that they’re willing to do this (prospects are overrated), but I don’t think there’s any pitcher good enough to be dealt for one of their top guys. I’d rather just sign Kuroda and let one of said rookies battle it out for the 5th spot. And signing a veteran starter or two on a minor league deal wouldn’t hurt either.

Well said not sure bout kudora think he is geeting a lot more attention then he deserves half the teams in baseball have been looking at him as a cheap option which of course in turn has driven up his value and what it is gonna probably cost to obtain his services is probably double of what he is actually worth.

Question for the DBacks fans.  Is David Wright someone that the DBacks would consider or is Ryan Roberts a legitimate long-term option?  Also, if Wright would be an option at 3B, what kind of prospects would you be willing to give up?

Tatman is a fan favorite.  I base this solely on that fact.  Roberts is a very servicable 3rd baseman.  So I honestly dont’ see a need for the Dbacks to pick up Wright.  I remember earlier in the season, Wright was on the radar.  But Roberts was key to the Dback run last year!
