Rays, Joel Peralta Avoid Arbitration

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | December 20, 2011 at 1:44pm CDT

1:44pm: Peralta will earn $2.175MM, according to Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times (on Twitter).

12:18pm: The Rays announced that they avoided arbitration with right-handed reliever Joel Peralta, and agreed to terms on a one-year, Major League contract for 2012. Mark Gilling represents Peralta, who had a projected $2MM salary for 2012, according to MLBTR's estimates.

Peralta, 35, posted a 2.93 ERA with 8.1 K/9, 2.4 BB/9 and a 27% ground ball rate in 67 2/3 innings of relief this past season. The Rays signed Peralta a year ago this week after the Nationals non-tendered him.

Now it time for the Rays to go for W Series. May a trade with the White Sox – Quentin (DH), Thorton and a propect for Wade Davis. Sox make money even.

Heck yeah. Too bad I don’t speak for the Rays FO, though 🙁

I believe the Sox likely have better offers on the table.  They need prospects.

Quentin and Thornton for Wade Davis and Alex Colome is a good deal for both sides. Sox get younger and get Colome who has TONS of potential.

    Cool

Now do something awesome, already, Rays.

*keeps trying to keep high of Moore deal* Nope, that high is gone until the season starts and he’s in the rotation.

I am really starting to like the Rays pen this year. Just think, when the 2010 season ended, our pen was Andy Sonnanstine and….no one else. Now it’s solid and I can still have my dreams of a Andrew Bailey trade.

Probably the best non-tender pick-up last year. Really liked him when he was with the Rockies.
