TUESDAY: The Mets made the move official (on Twitter).
MONDAY: The Mets will designate reliever Manny Acosta for assignment tomorrow, a baseball official told Mike Puma of the New York Post (via Twitter). The move will create roster space for fellow right-hander Chris Schwinden.
Acosta, 31, served up a three-run homer to the Phillies this afternoon to raise his ERA to 11.86 with 9.4 K/9 and 6.1 BB/9. In six big league seasons, Acosta owns a 4.13 ERA with 7.9 K/9 and 4.3 BB/9 for the Mets and Braves.

What’s something unforeseen? Omar’s plan getting held up?
Blue387
Perhaps Don Cooper could fix him.

I had put him on waivers weeks ago, but for some reason Terry Collins kept running him out to pitch….

Doesn’t a player sent down have to stay a minimum of 10 days before being recalled unless the recall is to replace an injured player? Schwinden was sent to AAA on May 21 after the series in Toronto. They need Acosta’s spot on the 40-man roster now for Quintanilla to replace the injured Turner on the major league roster, but I did not think they could use an injury to a position player to shorten Schwinden’s stay in the minors.

It doesnt have to be a pitcher for a pitcher swap, or position player for position player, so technically Schwinden could be taking the place of an injured Turner and Quintinilla could be placed on the 40-man (with acosta being DFA’d) and technically take his place.
Edit: Didn’t see Adam’s response below until after I wrote this

They can use any player they like.

Thanks. Ah, the vagaries of MLB roster rules.

Cashman’s next roster grab.

Ooh that could be an interesting fit. I wouldn’t mind him in Oakland at all or even here in Miami

The Yankees will claim him so he can hang out with John Maine, Ryota Igarashi, and Pedro Feliciano.

After Acosta’s poor performance last year, how could Alderson and/or Collins have thought that he was a major league pitcher? And after he got shelled time and again, why did it take them a month to get rid of him?
