Starting Pitching Rumors: Blue Jays, White Sox

By Mike Axisa | July 7, 2012 at 5:54pm CDT

The Orioles are just one of many teams looking for starting pitching, and they reportedly have their sights set on Zack Greinke and Wandy Rodriguez. Here's the latest on some other clubs in need of rotation help…

  • The Blue Jays are showing the most interest in pitchers under control beyond this season, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (on Twitter). Matt Garza and Rodriguez are among those high on their list, according to sources.
  • The White Sox's plans for the deadline depend heavily on John Danks and Philip Humber, tweets Morosi. If the two injured hurlers are not back soon, expect GM Kenny Williams to actively seek help for the battered rotation.

When the Jays actually do a trade, then I’ll believe it, until then it’s nothing but lip service.

I don’t think he was implying the Jays never trade, rather anything trade/free agent related with the Jays rarely comes true so he will simply believe it when he sees it.

hardly anyone else’s fault if he believes every rumor he hears means there’s a transaction imminent

in any case, there’s no reason at all to believe anthopolous’ trade talk is “lip service”. at worst, it’s due diligence. but the guy has shown every year that he makes all that work payoff with a trade or series of trades

Oh I’m not disagreeing with you, I completely agree, I was just clearing any misconception if there originally was any.

I’m in no hurry to see John Danks…he’s always been mediocre, but now he is overpaid and mediocre.  Viva Quintana!

I like him over Floyd over all. Gavin is super hot for 1 third of the season, super cold for 1 third and absolutely mediocre for the other third. Danks is a lot more consistent. Now whether he is consistently good or bad Im not going to argue. I think he has been pitching hurt for some time now. Maybe with the rest he will come back strong. Ever since the black out game in ’08 I have had a special place for John Danks. But I agree Quintana is a huge surprise and hope he can maintain for the remainder of the season.

      danks’ WAR:

      2008 6.1

      2009 4.8

      2010 4.9

      yeah, he’s totally sucked.

i’m not sure the O’s have enough to get Wandy. Parker Bridwell/Espisito/Tyler Townsend (Astros have – Singleton), i’d ask for Nicky Delmonico, Great hitting upside and could play the hot corner in Houston but i’m not sure they have enough prospects to make the Astros deal…unless they take on Wandy’s $$$$ owed.

I like Delmonico myself.  We wont get a ton for Wandy unless we eat salary

After eating all of Carlos lee’s contract I’m sure the Astros will eat some or most of the salary
