Juan Uribe Rumors: Saturday

By Jeff Todd | December 14, 2013 at 12:18pm CDT

Here is the latest on Juan Uribe, who is one of the most intriguing infield candidates remaining on the free agent market:

  • Dodgers GM Ned Colletti said today that he remains hopeful of bringing back Uribe at third, reports Ken Gurnick of MLB.com (via Twitter). Recent reports had indicated that Uribe and the Dodgers may be moving apart after the sides could not agree on a one-year deal with an option for a second.
  • Earlier this morning, we heard that Michael Young could be of interest as the everyday man on the hot corner in Los Angeles, based in part on the team's perception that Uribe could be planning to depart.
  • The Marlins remain interested in Uribe, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reported late last night. Miami would likely not only use Uribe at third, but also to take some at-bats against lefties at first base. Uribe wants two or three years in a deal, says Frisaro.

I hope the Sox get him, they just cannot rely on Gillispie and Semien at third. They need a back up in case the kids falter or someone gets hurt, and Uribe is still a heck of a clubhouse presence

Where is the Yankee interest? He can play a very solid third and help at second too.

Yankees should go after him. Sign him for 3B when A-Rod is suspended, and trade for BP for 2B.

Based on the 2 years he had before 2013, there is no way I would give him a multi-year deal.

Ned Colletti is the George W. Bush of baseball general managers:

“There’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s
in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on —
shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.”

I like Uribe. I would sign him if I were the White Sox. Gillispie is an outstanding back-up bench option, but they need something more solid

Cardinals please. Won’t happen because of a lack of playing time and too pricey for bench depth but he is exactly what they need: Infield depth/versatility with right handed pop and a great clubhouse personality.

Really don’t understand why the Yankees don’t seem to be showing any interest in him he’d be perfect at 3rd for them.
