Maybe I am not understanding right but why would Calhoun be an extension candidate? Would he sell his arbitration years for cheaper for security past age 33, would the Angels even want to do that?
Out of place Met fan
Doesn’t necessarily need to be extended into FA years. Although options, either vested or otherwise could be tacked on. Cost certainty has its own benefits for both player and organization.

We do see deals like that with somewhat older players. E.g., Kluber. But yeah, as above commenter says, it could also be driven by a trade of cost certainty/suppression for security, with or without doing FA years.

How long till Profar starts working in centerfield? Dont give me the Delino Deshields Jr stuff either. Deshields is a very poor defender. Every year is another year they lose with Profar. Profar is going to hit when he gets the ab’s under his belt. He might not play shortstop again, but the stick has always played.
Profar is mashing in the AFL again… Ranger fans could have Profar and Darvish in 2016, with an emerging star in Odor.
Crazy how the AL West got turned on its head with the two Texas teams looking to be the premiere teams for awhile.

Who would play short?

Realistically Profar will spend all/most of next season in the minors working his way back. He’s not even allowed to play the field right now. Deshields has only played CF for 2 years now and he’s like 22 so he’s going to continue to develop give him a chance. It will be interesting to see if he can produce similar results at the plate in his sophomore season. I think Profar will end up being Beltre’s replacement at 3rd since Beltre only has this season left on his contract and has been declining.

Lewis Brinson is a CF as well and is on the cusp of reaching the majors, ending up at AAA at the end of last season

Profar I would imagine has a lot of work in front of him. Taking 2 seasons off due to injury I would imagine has a profound affect on his game. He’s looking so far in AFL but that sample size is extremely small. Delino had a huge presence at lead off that’s pretty hard to discount. There’s a lot of work still left with him but he’s proven to be tough and I’m sure he will work his rear end off to be elite at any position he’s asked to play.

They should let profar get healthy…then trade him before it’s too late. DeShields and Odor have earned their position on the team.

Agreed. I see him being moved somewhere at the trade deadline next season as long as he stays 100% and plays well. He could be a key piece to a deal that the Rangers could use for pitching. The pitching still has issues here and there depending on this winter and what the pick up if any. And with the way the injury bug moves around he could provide insurance for a great trade.

How is Jeff Manship a super-two? He’s been in the league for 7 years, the first 4 of which were with my Minnesota Twins.
