The Padres have agreed to a minor league deal with infielder Adam Rosales, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports on Twitter. He’ll provide a veteran utility option to the organization.
Rosales, 32, has seen action in each of the last eight MLB seasons. All said, he owns a .227/.294/.342 batting line and 27 home runs over 1,226 plate appearances. Much of his appeal, of course, lies in the fact that he’s capable of playing all over the infield. Indeed, Rosales, has logged at least five hundred major league frames at first, second, third, and short.

The Padres keep getting these Utility guys. Solarte, Spangenberg, Rosales all can play most infield positions. They need to start getting players to build around instead of players that are placed around key players.

Like who? Padres don’t have a lot of prospects with value (I doubt they’d want to trade the ones they got from Boston) and Tyson Ross is the only real player on the team that would bring back a “key-player” (bullpen has nice options but not guys who would get you an All-Star caliber player or someone similar). Only infielder still on the market that can be considered a building block is Desmond (that’s a stretch). Plus they just had a season where they got players to build around (Kemp, Upton, Kimbrel, Benoit, Myers) and that turned out so well, I doubt the first thing Preller wants to do is start trading/signing for big name guys left and right.

This guy is on a minor league deal, so he’ll probably stay down in AAA the majority of the time unless the Padres need him at the big league level at some point in the season.

Its a minor league deal so it doesn’t much matter. Just some filler at AAA.

Yep. Someone has to take the at-bats Ramiro Pena logged for the Chihuahuas last year.

This off season is going to be a bore compared to last year.
