Rangers Designate Kyle Kubitza For Assignment

By Connor Byrne | August 10, 2016 at 7:18pm CDT

The Rangers have announced third baseman Kyle Kubitza’s designation for assignment. Texas acquired Kubitza from the AL West rival Angels for cash considerations on June 21.

In his nearly two-month stint with the Rangers organization, Kubitza has logged 187 plate appearances at Triple-A Round Rock and batted .182/.290/.340 with four home runs. He fared better with Angels’ Triple-A affiliate, Salt Lake, with whom he hit .253/.349/.366 in 215 PAs. Kubitza also spent last year with the Angels organization and saw his only major league action with them, albeit over just 39 trips to the plate. The 26-year-old was previously with the Braves, who picked him in the third round of the 2011 draft.

Was this for his conduct/bush league move last night that cost Jharel Cotton a perfect game he was 26 outs into?

      What did he do?

He struck out looking for the 26th out then argued for a while and then took like 3 mins to walk off the field after getting ejected

While he delayed the game, It’s up in the air if that “caused him to lose the perfect game.” Doug Bernier got a triple off Cotton right after Kubitza delayed the game, maybe Kubitza got in Cotton’s head, and made him think, but Cotton also came back and struck out the next batter he saw so…

Either way it’s a bush league move by Kubitza, and nothing you want in your organization

Well his performance is DFA worthy alone, but it definitely appears as though the timing is not a coincidence w/ what happened last night.

Nice evaluating, DiPoto. Trading a pitching prospect for this guy.

He was another bad trade Dipoto made while with the Angels. Traded a 19 year flame throwing pitcher for this garbage.

Outside of the Kendrick and Conger trades every single trade he made was incredibly short sided. Everyone said the signings cripples our franchise but look at some of the no head moves he made and they can’t say the same. Randall Grichuk for Fernandon Salas???
      Mike Clevinger for Vinnie Pestano???
      Ricardo Sanchez for Kyle Kubitza???
But what may have been the worst was choosing Hector Santiago instead of Adam Eaton in the Trumbo trade

As far as the Trumbo trade, the whole purpose of the trade was to acquire pitching so can totally understand his rationale. I really don’t want to sound like I’m defending Dipoto tho. The lack of importance he placed on international prospects was confusing to me too. Dumped pretty much every bonus slot.

Scott Downs for Rasmus was a good trade. He over paid for Grienke, then wouldn’t offer him a sixth year on his contract offer. The Giants wanted Wilson, and were willing to take on his whole contract. Turned that trade down. The Rockies offered CarGo last year just looking to dump his salary, Dipoto turned that trade down.

I usually not a conspiracy theorist, but I believe in my gut that Dipoto trolled the Angels’ front office as a stepping stone to get a GM job in a place like Boston. But then he stepped on his own foot by making bonehead moves, refusing to be a leader and work with Scioscia, and quitting on his team halfway through the season. Now, he’s stuck in Seattle of all places.
