Royals Likely To Trade Wade Davis, Perhaps Soon

By charliewilmoth | December 6, 2016 at 6:03pm CDT

The Royals are likely to deal closer Wade Davis, and such a deal could happen quickly, Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passan tweets. 2016 was Davis’ third straight dominant year in the Royals’ bullpen — he posted a 1.87 ERA, 9.8 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 over 43 1/3 innings. He is eligible for free agency following next season.

With Mark Melancon receiving a $62MM deal and top closers like Aroldis Chapman and Kenley Jansen reportedly receiving offers for even more, Davis’ trade market figures to be robust. The Dodgers and Cubs have been linked to Davis, as have the Mets (although the Mets could be a somewhat unlikely fit). The Nationals and other teams could potentially get involved in the bidding as well.

        I’m a cards fan.

And Davis and Cain make sense for the Cards.

But it’s gonna start with probably Weaver and maybe Bader.

Wong has negative trade value right now.

No it’s totally silly. It might be the silliest proposal I’ve seen in the comments in a week. No offense, Kolton Wong doesn’t have much trade value.

If the prospects are legit and the guy that the Royals want is not silly. In fact it has been a headline for 2 days. If its that “silly” why has it been coming back up?

I mean, sure, if Wong is the third piece in deal, then of course. Or if he’s the 2nd piece and the first piece is a total stud, sure. That could could be true of anyone. And a Wong-headlined trade isn’t anything I’ve seen come up in headlines, and there’s a reason why. Because it’s a terrible trade for the Royals and Wong has little to no value. He’s basically spare parts. Dayton Moore is not that stupid. KC is not trading Davis for spare parts.

Just because Wong’s name keeps coming up doesn’t mean he’s going to be the headliner. I’m sure the Royals would love Martinez/Reyes and that their names keep coming up, but not a guarantee that they are part of the trade.

Cain and Davis are only controllable for another year. That won’t get you Reyes.

Not Ian Happ or eloy Jimenez. Soler and someone else can go to the royals. We aren’t giving up our best prospects for one year of control ever again. If that’s the only option the royals can keep Davis.

Actually, the reports on the Chicago radio were indicating it would be Davis and more for Soler. Davis is a free agent after the upcoming season and Soler is cheap for a lot more years. As we have already seen today, the contract is at least as important if not more important in trades.

Not a chance. Davis is signed for one season and the closer market is not in short supply. And the Royals are cutting payroll. Why give up major pieces when you can spend the $$ and just sign one? Maybe for small market teams this gas value, Cubs have money though. I personally wouldn’t give you Soler straight up for Davis. Not to say he’s not worth Soler (I believe this is his approximate value actually) but there’s just other options the for the Cubs without giving away substantial talent. Teams with money just don’t value trades like that like small market teams do. At least lot well-managed ones.

What do you expect this trade adds to the Jays?
