Edwin Jackson Elects Free Agency

By Steve Adams | June 13, 2017 at 3:42pm CDT

Right-hander Edwin Jackson has cleared waivers after being designated for assignment by the Orioles and has elected free agency, tweets Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com.

The veteran Jackson’s time with the Orioles proved to be brief. After pushing an opt-out clause in his minor league deal with the Orioles from June 1 back to June 5, the 33-year-old triggered that clause, prompting the Orioles to place him on the big league roster. However, he’d appear in just three games and total a mere five innings with the O’s. In that time, Jackson surrendered four earned runs (seven total runs) on 11 hits and four walks with two strikeouts.

Jackson was solid with Baltimore’s Triple-A affiliate, posting a 3.10 ERA with 17 strikeouts against 10 walks in 20 1/3 innings. And he, of course, comes with plenty of big league experience under his belt. Jackson had a productive season as recently as 2015, when he notched a 3.07 earned run average with 6.5 K/9 against 3.4 BB/9 in 55 2/3 frames between the Cubs and Braves. In all, he’s compiled a 4.65 ERA with 6.9 K/9 against 3.6 BB/9 in 1729 1/3 Major League innings. Jackson, one of the most well-traveled players in Major League history, has now appeared for 12 different big league teams, leaving him one Major League club shy of tying the record 13 franchises for which Octavio Dotel appeared in his career.

E-Jax HAS to push on to break the record, right? A career resume sporting a no-hitter where he walked 8 batters AND being the most “well traveled” player in MLB history has Hall of Fame written all over it.

Not sure who was a bigger waste of time for the O’s…..Jackson or Johan Santana.

Atleast Jackson pitched. All Santana did was rehab

Only 33????????? Another one of those guys that feels like he’s been around forever. He’s been trying for a while. I wish him nothing but success. Good Luck E-Jax! I hope you make it, (even though you’ve made it before is accomplished and got your payday) I’m an E-Jax fan. Stop hating on the guy

Jackson surrendered four earned runs (seven total runs). Didn’t Edwin’s own error account for the three unearned runs? This is a chapter in Orioles history that can and will be forgotten very quickly.

I have always despised that rule. If you as the pitcher commit the error, to me the runs should be earned. You (the pitcher) messed up. If someone else commits the error, the runs are unearned. Maybe this reads as nonsense, but I am just taking the definition of “earn” literally, I guess.

Unless duquette gets a pitcher or 2 they might as well sell off there good piece and rebuild because that rotation is horrible other than bundy and i dont even know he will make a full season

He’ll be in the Atlantic League with Jerome Williams.

Any team that even considers Jackson for more than 5 seconds has to be in a state of emergency.
