Dodgers Acquire Luis Ysla From Red Sox

By Connor Byrne | July 29, 2017 at 7:08pm CDT

The Dodgers have acquired left-hander Luis Ysla from the Red Sox for cash considerations, per announcements from both teams. Ysla will report to Double-A Tulsa.

The 25-year-old Ysla’s time with the Red Sox all but ended when they acquired infielder Eduardo Nunez from the Giants on Wednesday. The Red Sox subsequently designated Ysla for assignment to open up a spot for Nunez, leading to their trade with the Dodgers. Ysla pitched himself out of the Boston organization’s plans by logging a 5.05 ERA, 8.5 K/9 and 6.2 BB/9 over 46 1/3 innings with its Double-A affiliate this season.

The Dodgers created 40-man roster room for Ysla by moving first baseman Adrian Gonzalez to the 60-day disabled list, retroactive to June 12, with a lumbar disc herniation. Thanks to his ailing back, the 35-year-old Gonzalez has appeared in just 49 games this season and hit an uncharacteristically weak .255/.304/.339 in 182 plate appearances.

Know this article seems funny while we’re all anticipating the next big get before deadline…..as lifelong Dodger fan, grew up 10 mins from stadium, prices r high, don’t mortgage ur future, Pedro, Wetteland, Konerko, Lilly, C. Santana, even John Franco, too many too remember, all the homegrown kids we “gave away” for win now mentality, usually for beat-up over the hill, over paid has-beens, there is reason Dodgers r 41 games over .500 now! Tweak it, maybe nice complementary BP lefty, Don’t Give Away The Farm! Please! Something special has been brewing in LA since the new ownership took over……Sometimes Its The Trades U Don’t Make That Bring U Success n Victory……Let’s Go Dodgers !!!

Amen! It’s crazy what these rebuilding clubs want for their players. It’s not even a good crop of available players! Best ones are relievers so I hope we just get a lefty and call it a day. Let’s keep our farm stacked so we don’t have to go out and spend a ton each deadline.

Blake Dewitt for Lilly was a good trade. It was re signing him that hurt

Lol. Ted Lilly was originally drafted by the Dodgers then traded away then swapped for Dewitt.

Bargain hunting got us Chris Taylor and Brandon Morrow, so I’ll give Friedman a ride to pic n save myself if that’s the case.

Another trade that means nothing for the big league team. Twice in 2 or 3 days now the Dodgers have done this to me where I see we traded and I read it and it’s trade worth nothing. I wonder if this front office is just toying with us fans at this point haha

I dunno, looks like more cannon fodder. I wonder why they needed to put him on the 40-man. When they get whatever innings they can out of Paredes, this guy will be next.

Some good ideas…. Some bad. I agree why get a rental or give up way to much for an over the hill or past their prime player. What ever happen to dynasties ? Unfortunately we all live in the ” in the moment” scenario. Why not get Sonny ( a player under control and no big money ) so it keeps that luxury tax down, and give up some players who will probably be career minor leaguers. Like trace,Willie,Alex… I mean your outfield is set…. Taylor/bellinger , pederson and puig. Not to mention you still have either and tolls…. Plus segadin and culberson

In what way is our outfield set? Puig and Joc are likely to be gone as soon they become expensive. They’re doing well, but I don’t see either as players you want to pay a big salary to when you’re trying to get under the luxury tax.

And Taylor is likely to be the 2nd baseman next year.

Just saying for this year. What’s the rush of getting ahead of yourself when there is still 50 + games left ? It’s been stated the dodgers DONT need to make ANY moves, they are content with who they have. But, if you want to add one or two pieces to MAYBE help in October, then from a business stand point ( let’s be real,it’s not a game anymore ) then doesn’t it make sense to spend money wisely and get someone for 2 years as opposed to 2 months ?

Even if only for this year, we could really strengthen the lineup if we got a good LF. Seems unlikely though as there isn’t much available. Disappointed we didn’t get JD Martinez as he went for a bag of used balls and would have been a huge upgrade over Forsythe.

I highly doubt Puig and Joc will get the “big money” you are talking about. Both are great on Defense but suspect on Offense. Puig has been very good but again in the 8 hole. He won’t get big money to be a 3-4-5 Hitter. I see them both getting maybe 8-12 a year which for the Dodgers isn’t bad if you lock in your OF now.
Grandal, Bellinger, Taylor, Seager, Turner, Tolls, Joc, Puig…. that’s a very solid group

Who would you put in left over Taylor ? For someone who is an infielder by trade is doing a damn good job. Also he at times has been the strength of the line up. Again at times… I agree the dodgers do need a better second baseman. Hopefully the will go to the afore mentioned Taylor. Next year. And they do have Barnes, who can play that position. Don’t get me wrong, the dodgers are in a prime position, and have more than enough talent..perhaps to much. ( Not necessarily a bad thing ). I wish them the best in the few months left. But if they are smart they should have a very interesting off season that I would hope set them up to be that dynasty I talked about earlier… And I will admit no matter what moves are and are not made, this is the best time of the season, from now to the end of the world series

He’s still on schedule for the same timeline, this is just a roster move to be able to fit another body on the 40 man.
