Red Sox To Designate Luis Ysla

By Jeff Todd | July 26, 2017 at 7:43am CDT

The Red Sox will designate lefty Luis Ysla for assignment, Jen McCaffrey of MassLive.com tweets. His 40-man spot will go to just-acquired infielder Eduardo Nunez.

Boston will also make two other adjoining moves. Righty Ben Taylor is headed to the disabled list, while fellow reliever Blaine Boyer will return from his own time on the DL.

Ysla had been added to the 40-man roster last fall, in advance of the Rule 5 draft. But the 25-year-old has yet to advance to the majors. Instead, Ysla has stalled out this year at Double-A, working to a 5.05 ERA with 8.5 K/9 and 6.2 BB/9 over 46 1/3 innings.

I think Doug fister will get one more chance to make a good start and if he doesn’t then I think they will release him or should release
Him and then they will have to get a starter.

He shouldn’t. He needs to be DFA. 0-5 and costing us games in the division. Lead could be much bigger than 1.0 game if he didn’t pitch terribly all the time

          What about Rick Porcello?

Porcello hasn’t pitch all that badly lately. Giving up 3 runs in a game is a not bad outing. Giving up 2 runs at the end of a game they should have won (by someone who can’t start and had an ERA of over 7) is a problem.

He’s had a 2.54 ERA (0-3) in July. So it’s not because of him he’s losing the games, it’s lack of run support. He had a terrible June and a good May.

Fister has had an ERA of 9.42 in July (0-4) (and WHIP of over 2). Not someone I would keep around to hoid or save a game.

Velazquez has done better. Fister should have never, ever been picked up off the waiver wire.

If that plays out, I wonder if Andrew Cashner could be a fit. He’d make a good 5th starter for a playoff caliber team.

How ironic that the Red Sox DFA a player they had acquired in the past from the Giants for a player that they acquired from the same Giants.

Who (Nunez) was traded because he was replaced by a player (Sandoval) from the Red Sox.

Nunez was traded because he is one player of value/has an expiring contract in the dumpster fire that is the 2017 Giants. Probably would not be traded and I doubt Sandoval would be even glanced at if the Giants were contending this year

No irony. Red Sox did not acquire Sandoval from the Giants. They overpaid him to come to Boston as a free agent. The Giants then traded Sandoval’s replacement in Matt Duffy to the Rays in the Matt Moore deal. Nunez was acquired separately from the Twins. Not that anyone cares… Boston’s FO is ironic

Shouldn’t there be a limit how many guys u can fire a year? This isn’t right these bunch of bozos in the front office are always making reactionary moves to please these moronic Sox fans who don’t have the first clue about baseball. One bad game they want the guy gone. The mentality of a red Sox fan is equivalent to that of a 2 year old child. Easy to see why they didn’t win a world series for 100 yearsm

    A) Fister is basically a long reliever now that ERod is back B) he is 0-5 and more then likely lose his job if the Sox obtain a setup type guy in the next few days C) bottom line is this team might make the play offs but with out the stick in the 4-5 hole, and I’m talking power. This team will not go very far D) They pretty much have the pitching… time to gets this struggling bats situation behind them!

Fister will be back in the rotation once ERod goes back on the DL. Six fans don’t get screaming. History will repeat itself with this guy. You will call it unlucky. Everyone outside of your bubble will call it bad knees and unfit physically.

Fister should not even be on this team. He will be DFA after the trade deadline. DD will pick up a better pitcher from little league.

There’s no point in keeping Fister even if he is the long relief pitcher. Velazquez is easily a whole lot better for the role

I agree on Pfister. liked the move whom happened but like the Yankees with Clifford, Boston can’t chance putting him on the mound again. With his history, expect DD to fake an injury and disable him for a month until the rosters expand in September.

I can see him drawing a claim. FIP was a considerably better 3.98. Also controllable through 2019 if outrighted eventually.
