Indians To Sign Alexi Ogando

By Jeff Todd | December 12, 2017 at 2:43pm CDT

The Indians have reached a minors deal with righty Alexi Ogando, MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez reports on Twitter. He’s going to attempt to work as a starter in camp, per the report.

Ogando, 34, pitched mostly from the rotation in a 2017 stint with the KBO’s Hanwha Eagles. Over 110 innings, he posted a 3.93 ERA with 6.1 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 in the notoriously hitter-friendly Korean league.

Between 2014 and 2016, Ogando had worked exclusively as a reliever. He managed a 3.94 earned run average in his 32-inning run with the Braves in 2016, averaging nearly 95 mph on his fastball, but also oversaw an ugly 29:23 K/BB ratio before being cut loose by Atlanta.

They’re going to stretch him out to be a starter.

Alright we’ve made our big signing for the year. Let’s call it an off-season

As a Rangers fan, I’d love to see him figure everything out, but he’s several years removed from quality performance

Next thing you know, Palmeiro is going to want to try a comeback….

whoah, that’s like pulling Andre Dawson out of the ivy… pretty cool to get another chance at making back to the bigs, tho.

There is no such thing as a bad minor league signing. Best case scenario is a very useful bullpen arm for cheap. Worst case is you cut him and move on.

Tim Tebow maybe, potentially Rafael Palmiero if any organization buys into his comeback.

Well the Mets have made a killing off Tebow jersey sales in relation to his contract… so I’m with Kyle, no such thing as a bad minor league deal

I sure hope this pays off. Having that starter depth, especially after what they dealt with last season, is a good thing. Hope I get to see him in Goodyear.

I feel that this should have been a major league deal. His stats seem to be very worthy of being in the MLB.
