Dodgers Place Russell Martin On 10-Day IL

By Jeff Todd | April 10, 2019 at 3:09pm CDT

The Dodgers announced today that backstop Russell Martin has been placed on the 10-day injured list with lower back inflammation. He’ll be replaced on the active roster by fellow receiver Rocky Gale.

Acquired over the winter via trade, Martin has shared time behind the plate with Austin Barnes. Expectations were tempered for the 36-year-old’s second stint in Los Angeles, as he has been limited by injuries and seen his offensive numbers dip in recent seasons. But things had gone rather well to this point, with Martin off to a .333/.500/.600 start with the bat through 22 plate appearances.

I could probably name about a dozen players (at least) not on 40 man rosters who would preform better than rocky gale at this time.

Yea, I’m a bit biased since Rocky and his wife Leah lived with our good friends while playing for the Lake Elsinore Storm. Call me a troll again and I’ll reach in your mouth, rip your tongue out and beat you with it.

Yeah. I guess that is why the Dodgers keep Rocky around because there are so many better players out there not on rosters.

Ryu and now Martin……I’ll predict Pollack is next and then someone from the bullpen and then back to SP.

Russell Martin can carry a weak rotation to the playoffs. It’s a bigger loss that most realize.

Dude’s got a sore back, not a torn rotator cuff.

Would love to see Will Smith get the call, but he isnt on the 40 man roster yet. Kelbert Ruiz is on the 40 man roster, but I dont think he is quite ready yet. Kyle Farmer would be nice to have about right now. Hopefully Martin is not out long.
