Angels Release Peter Bourjos

By Steve Adams | May 12, 2019 at 1:11pm CDT

May 12: The Angels announced that Bourjos has cleared waivers and has been unconditionally released.

May 10: The Angels announced today that they’ve requested unconditional release waivers on outfielder Peter Bourjos, whom they designated for assignment earlier in the week.

Bourjos, 32, had a homecoming of sorts when he signed a minor league pact with the Angels this offseason. The Halos selected him in the 10th round of the 2005 draft, and he made his big league debut with the club a half decade later when he emerged in 2010. Playing time in his second stint with his original organization was sparse, however, and Bourjos ultimately hit just .091/.109/.144 in 46 trips to the plate. A career .237/.296/.376 hitter (2334 plate appearances) who can handle all three outfield positions, Bourjos will head back to the open market in search of another opportunity with a club seeking some veteran depth.

Yanks ship has sailed, they like Maybin, they’re getting Hicks back tomorrow, and Bourjous is not better than Frazier or Tauchman, and they won’t cut Gardner for him…

That Goodwin pick up has been insanely good, Peter may have had a better chance to stay if not for this turn of events. Good dude.

The turn of events that saw him hit .091?

Yep, it’s so easy to hit when you get 7 at bats a week.

Give it time. As soon as Goodwin comes back to reality offensively, with his shiity defense, he will be riding pine.

Defensive war is probably the worst stat ever created. It’s such a bad stat, it shouldn’t be a stat. Maybe u are a royals or nationals fan.

There is value in it. If your outfielder can’t cover ground, he costs the team runs.

It’s not a worthless stat, and my eyes tell me he sucks defensively too.

Peter B was the starting CF and they made Trout move to left field in Trouts first season.

Hmmm. And trout put up his best defensive war numbers in left field. Almost double his best defensive war numbers. Can we please get rid the defensive war rating.
It’s the only reason why trout doesn’t have 4 gold gloves.

Maybe that’s because it’s easier to play left field than center??

Yes, a center fielder playing left field is obviously going to put up better numbers. Left field is the second-easiest position to play on the field. Trout is a very good center fielder despite the obvious flaw (his throwing arm). But he is an exceptional leftfielder.

Pete is crazy fast. People will keep giving him a shot for as long as he’s willing to bounce around.

Yeah, but is useless offensively if you never get on base. See Drew Stubbs, Billy Hamilton, etc
