Cubs Place Kyle Hendricks On 10-Day IL

By Ty Bradley | June 18, 2019 at 6:56pm CDT

JUNE 18: Hendricks has a shoulder impingement, Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer told Jordan Bastian of MLB.com and other reporters Tuesday. “I feel like we got ahead of it,” Hoyer said. “We’re not sure how much time he’ll miss, but we’ll try to take it slow and take the length of the season into account.”

JUNE 15: The Cubs have placed righty Kyle Hendricks on 10-Day IL with right shoulder inflammation, per Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune. Righty Rowan Wick will come up from Triple-A Iowa to take his place.

Hendricks, 29, is outpacing his peripheral marks for the fifth time in six big league season thus far in 2019. The righty’s delivered 14 starts of 3.36 ERA ball with his typical microscopic walk rate, though his grounder percentage has dropped to an easily-career-worst 41.9%.

There’s no word yet on how long the command artist will remain sidelined, or who’ll replace him in the Cubs rotation. Tyler Chatwood, the only Cub apart from the opening five of Hendricks, Jon Lester, Cole Hamels, Yu Darvish, and Jose Quintana to get a start this season, would figure to be next in line, but he’s again been shaky in ’19 after signing a 3-year, $38MM deal prior to the 2018 campaign.

I’m not gonna lie Giolito should all out win this game tomorrow. The type of year he’s having it would a devastating blow to him if he didn’t pitch the way he has been. Sox should by all means be 2-0 in this series

“Devastating blow” might be a bit of a stretch for one game… It’d suck, but I don’t think he’d lose sleep over it. Now if he strings together a couple bad performances in a row, then you might be onto something.

Chatwood hasn’t been that bad, but this could be a great time for them to bring up Adbert Alzolay from the minors. Cubs have been on a rough patch lately. Playing a lot of hot teams regardless this is a bad time to lose arguably their best starter.

Like I predicted at the start of the season and drew heavy criticism. I’ll need to say it again and once again take criticism. A third place finish for the Cubs this year. Brewers, Cardinals, Cubs. Kimbrel will likely help solidify the back end of the pen-They hope. But as mentioned earlier the starters are and will likely continue to wear down due to age and /or in Yu Darvish’s case-injuries A shoulder injury to Hendricks should be a major concern as I’m sure the front office is. The offense once again goes cold for for a week at a time. Little to offer sellers with the lack of high end minor league talent to make an impact deal at the trade dead line. The highest trade chip Nico Hoerner is injured once again. That leaves Miguel Amaya as the only other higher end prospect.

Giolito can’t pitch 5 times through the rotation. The White Sox’s glorious #27th ranked starting rotation won’t even sniff anything over 4th place.

Enjoy that state, it that’s your destiny for the next 3 years before the worst front office in the mlb convinces the lamest fan base in baseball it’s time for another rebuild. It’s well know and proven no big name free agents want to play for Jerry. It really doesn’t matter what the cubs do at this point. They can’t beat a quality team in a wildcard game or playoff series. That’s the salient point here. All the regular season wins and stats won’t translate when the cubs face quality teams in a playoff series. It’s going to look like a home run derby in a best of five. Playing from behind doesn’t suit this lineup, either. They’re just not that good as constructed anymore.

your ‘salient point’ is actually an unfounded prediction of future events by an observer with an admitted bias and no history of knowing jack about the subject at hand

which kind of makes it less of a ‘salient point’ and more worthless gibberish… but i’m sure using a big word you didn’t know the definition of made you feel smart.

The cubs /Sox argument is dumb and has been for years. 2 teams in a huge market like Chicago with 2 championships in a 100 years fighting over who is better is laughable. Both organizations equally suck. New York, California and Boston fans laugh at us. My alliance is to the Sox but I’m not gonna play baby games and talk trash about a team that is not in our division. This week i’ll root against the Cubs. After that they are just another team in baseball that I follow

They can’t talk baseball, so they make it personal in a hot minute. You coming here to apologize for Sox fans who just want to talk baseball about the cubs just makes you look like a punk. You’re appeasement to the people won’t make them say nice things about the White Sox or White Sox fans. They’re too small, ignorant and petty for that.
