Giants Place Buster Posey On 10-Day IL, Activate Trevor Gott

By Mark Polishuk | June 5, 2019 at 3:40pm CDT

The Giants have placed catcher Buster Posey on their 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain (placement retroactive to June 2).  To fill Posey’s roster spot, right-hander Trevor Gott has been activated from his own IL stint.

Posey hasn’t played since last Saturday, when he was forced out of the Giants’ game in the seventh inning while running out a grounder.  The strain isn’t thought to be overly serious, though an IL stint was ultimately deemed necessary to give Posey full time to recover.

The longtime Giants catcher hasn’t hit much like his old self, with a modest .257/.321/.408 slash line and three home runs over 168 plate appearances.  Posey underwent hip surgery last August but recovered quickly enough to make San Francisco’s Opening Day lineup, though he also missed a week in May on the seven-day concussion IL.  It’s been a tough stretch overall for Posey, between these injuries and enduring what is looking like a third straight season of losing baseball in the Bay Area.

Gott was sidelined on May 25 with a forearm strain, though that worrisome diagnosis didn’t result in anything beyond a minimal stay on the injured list.  The quick return allows Gott to continue what has been a very strong season, as the right-hander had a 3.00 ERA, 9.4 K/9, and 4.17 K/BB rate through 24 innings out of the Giants’ bullpen.  If Gott is able to remain healthy and effective in the coming weeks, he could become a trade candidate for reliever-needy teams at the deadline.

Hopefully Buster gets to healing, and come back to his normal self. Hes been struggling pretty bad over the past year.

Sorry to burst your bubble Pickles, but Buster is done. Even if he were to make a move to first base, he no longer has the skills to compete at a major league level IMHO. His injury and Father Time caught up with him relatively quickly. Sad part is that he is still on the hook until the year 2022 with an average salary of $17 million per.

I wouldnt say it was quick. Catching is definitely the position that creates the most stress on the body of the position players. You should expect that a catcher bows to age a bit sooner. Because he is a catcher I also dont think a come back is as likely as other position players either.

Also, that 2022 season is a team option so they arent on the hook for it.

Buster is not done yet, if you’ve been watching or listening to the games hes still getting hard contact. He’s just not driving them over the wall as much. Declining, maybe, but the defensive value won’t get better from anyone else until Bart comes up.

Muttenchop’s here. bark bark whiz whiz, oh what a relief it is.

I had a thirty-year-old dog friend named Buster. He hurt himself mounting Penelope Purebred and had to have surgery on his hip. All of us worked on his rehab. We practiced chasing our tails, rolling over, biting the postman, but poor old Buster seemed to lose his power. All he could do was lie on the floor and lick his balls.

I heard he choked on a fur ball. But, he is not forgotten. The manager of the Giants had him stuffed and he travels everywhere with Bochyman..

Meanwhile,Penelope and I are hooking up.
    Signed Joey Muttonchops Bark

The Mets get a leadoff double and manufacture a run. The Giants get a leadoff double and move the line along with strikeouts. Score 1-0 Gotta love that Bochyball

Giants once again get leadoff man on base. Followed by pop up, ground out, and the ever present stike out.

There is no truth to the rumor that Miuttenchops broke his hand falling off of Penelope Purebread. but things are looking mighty suspicious.

Earlier this year Ramass the man-child mutt suffered a pulled hamstring trying to jump the back yard fence of the now deceased dog Buster. Ramass stated to the press, “I be bery bery confused. Me no know trespassing laws.” Buster and Penelope did not press charges.

The grieving Penelope has offered to privately tutor Ramass so he understands how to perform as a professional.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers have offered to pay for Penelope’s time.

I’m not even a Giants fan but Buster is just pure class. Genuinely can’t understand why anybody wouldn’t root for him. Hope he comes back strong next year.

The world is full of anal-retentive people who can’t laugh for fear they might shat their pants. The past two and a half years of Giant’s baseball has taught me if you don’t laugh you might want to hang yourself. Lighten up Francis.

Just curious about our hitting coach/instructor? I thought Muelen’s was completely overrated. I recently read that Hunter Pence is batting over 300 SMH

Should’ve traded Belt and moved Posey to 1B 3 years ago. Yeah, I know hindsight and Buster didn’t want that either but wishful thinking here.
