The Mets have designated left-hander Hector Santiago for assignment, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com tweets.
A former starter for the White Sox, Angels and Twins, the 31-year-old Santiago joined the Mets on a minor league deal over the winter. Santiago didn’t crack the Mets’ roster at first, instead opening the year at the Triple-A level. He logged a 3.35 ERA/4.94 FIP with 7.95 K/9 and 4.81 BB/9 in 43 innings as a member of New York’s top affiliate before the club summoned him to the majors in late May.
While Santiago has worked as a starter in the minors this season, he functioned exclusively as a reliever with the Mets before they cut him from their 40-man. In eight innings, Santiago allowed six earned runs on 10 hits and five walks (against six strikeouts). Santiago could end up heading back to Syracuse next, though he’ll be able to reject an outright assignment to the minors if he wants.

Remember when historically bad gm Brodie Van Wagenen said the team was getting much better by recalling Santiago? Lol
Jonas Altman-Kurosaki
Remember when “historically” can’t apply to a GM who’s only been on the job six months with literally no prior history in that capacity?
Not saying he isn’t bad, but let’s cut the theatrics a little bit…

A lot less people would be hating on Brodie if he wasn’t such a cocky dude. He went on Mike Francesa’s show back in the offseason and declared NYM the best team in the divison and said “who is better than us”. Well Brodie at least 2 teams as of now. The majority of his moves have been massive busts yet he thinks he is some genius. He is an agent playing pretend GM.

Again it’s early June. And it’s not his fault that Diaz hasn’t done what he should, Ramos hasn’t done what he should, Wilson hasn’t done what he should, etc. they were all good signings (trade was/is controversial and familia was a little controversial too). It’s not uncommon for a gm, manager, or player to say their team is the best. Give it a year and see what happens

Sadly, for Mets fans, it appears that Brodie is over his head. Save for JD Davis , none of his moves have worked. Cano at 36 and off PEDs, looks like a former ‘roofs user, brittle and diminished. Familia might have been worth a one year gamble — not a three year commitment. And Diaz might be another pitcher from a smaller market (see Ed Whitson and Sonny Gray) just not cut out for New York. And what about sudden flash- in-the -pan and now MIA Lowrie? Are you going to sit Jeff McNeil, your best young player, should he ever reappear? Bottom line: bad personnel decisions. Bad enough that a Mets fan should panic with the awareness that Brodie will be in charge of deadline trades in July.

I’m starting to think Familia might not be that good either.

Starting?

It’s a long season.Things look very bad right now.Lets see how the standings look in mid summer.Still time to get back in contention.

Mets are fine. You bring a million dudes in and some work out and some don’t. Starters are pitching better and relievers can’t be this bad. Cano will get hot and prove everyone wrong and Mets will win 88 games – May not be enough but not a bad season

Is John Anderson an alias for Jeff Wilpon?

I’m just curious that 88 games is it this year…
