Phillies Outright Phil Gosselin

By Jeff Todd | June 17, 2019 at 9:11am CDT

The Phillies have outrighted infielder Phil Gosselin after he cleared waivers, per a club announcement. He has been assigned to Triple-A, but still has the right to reject the assignment.

While the 30-year-old Gosselin brings a solid and versatile glove, he has never really come around fully with the bat. He’s slashing .262/.310/.356 in 629 career plate appearances in the majors. Gosselin is a .291 hitter in over a thousand trips to the dish at Triple-A, but only carries a .338 OBP and .399 slug at the highest level of the minors.

He had some moments but he is just organization filler at this point. No shame in that, though.

I would accept if I were him. He could easily be back at some point if Brad Miller proves to be a fail. Gosselin gave pro at bats every time I watched him hit.

Hopefully he will accept the assignment. He’s a useful utility player. Worth more than Franco, especially considering the salary differential.

He’s good depth but not good enough offensively or defensively to be in the big leagues full time. There’s no shame in that, he should be able to stick around as a “AAAA” type of player for the foreseeable future.

id like to see him stick around. he was solid and useful when up, and may be useful again in the future.

Not a good move. The mets will pick him up and turn him around. This is why this philies have not been to the world series in a decade.

The Mets haven’t won a World Series in 33 years. Maybe you should focus on that.

Phillies depth is a huge concern at this point, and it’s showing with these injuries.

Meanwhile Kiki Hernandez is gainfully employed. Poor Phil.

a funny thing about that is Brad Miller absolutely destroyed it in spring for LAD, and is the guy Goselin is being replaced by.
