Imagine thinking the giants will win the World Series. This team needs to rebuild. They need more than just one more starting pitcher.

They are rebuilding, they have unmovable contracts on some, and they are adding as they go, you won’t ever see a rebuild type like orioles or White Sox, they have to much money.

How much of Madbum’s trade value is based off of performances from 5 years ago?

The Home Run Derby was rigged to have Guerrero and Pederson go to overtime.
Pederson had time to see one more pitch but let the clock expire.
Charlie Blackmon even said it was rigged.

I completely agree with Vladito’s take on Vladdy. I’d be pretty frustrated if I played every game and posted 20 + HR’s and Vlad and his 8 HR’s are walking away with a million. It was an impressive display of power, but he should have earned a spot in the derby next year. Stroman was already there to represent the Jays. It’s an extremely small sample size, but with all the hype he seems to be a one dimensional player and a lifelong DH.

I completely disagree. There is no such thing as deserving a spot in the competition. It’s not the AS game, or roster. Vlad Jr. was not representing the Jays. All those issues being complained about apply to the ASG, and have nothing to do with the HR contest.

The 8 HRs need to be looked at in context. Vlad started the season in the minors,, and he has about 100 fewer ABs than the guys with 20 HRs. It’s not entirely about the totals, it’s about the power, which Vlad has in abundance.

Plus, how anyone could complain with the selection after seeing the results is beyond me. It sounds like holding on to a grudge despite the obvious justification that what was done was correct.

So Vlady’s 8 HR in 225 AB’s completely dwarf Yordan Alvarez 7 Hr in 73 AB. Very deserving! NOT! But try again!

The guy hit over 90 HRs, monsters at that, in 2 hours, so any attempt at casting him as unworthy of being there is ridiculously absurd. It was a total exhibition based on who the fans wanted to see. Quit whining about so-and-so not being there.

Why Vlad Jr and not other guys with big power? Vogelbach, Yordan Alvarez (7 homers in about 100 less ABs than Vlad Jr), Kris Davis, Judge, Stanton, Mancini, etc… I must admit the derby was much better with Vlad in it though. As an Astros fan, I hope Bregman retires from all home run derbies. He can’t get to that 440 foot mark. Many other incredible performances though.

The fans wanted to see Vlad Jr. much more than they wanted to see Vogelbach or Alvarez. That’s all that matters and he more than vindicated his selection. Get over dude. It means nothing beyond the entertainment value.

Bro….are you seriously trying to find fault in the ethics of the Home Run Derby?

Renfroe has a higher WAR than Syndergaard this year and two more years of control. Syndergaard is always injured. Remind me again why Syndergaard is more valuable?

You’re cherry-picking. Over their careers, Thor has had 2 seasons of higher WAR than Renfroe has ever had. Thor is having a down year, but he’s still only 26. Plus a rotation ace is always going to be worth more than a corner OF.

Thor is not a “rotation ace.” “Rotation aces” regularly pitch 200 innings. Thor’s max IP is 184 in 2016 and his second best is 154 last year.
Anyway, I’m going off of what they will do, not what they have done. The Padres aren’t getting Thor’s 2016 season by trading for him.

Fine, Potential ace. Still worth more than a corner OF despite one season’s WAR.

If that’s the game you wanna play, Renfroe is a potential NL home run leader.

Because Syndergaard is better at baseball than Renfroe. Any other questions?

That’s still cherry-picking. You could probably find a half-season of one stat that showed any player as being better than any other. Face it. Renfroe is not worth more than a 26 year-old SP with the raw stuff that Thor possesses regardless of what WAR, fWAR, or whatever they have over half of a season.

Maybe not if they had the same amount of club control remaining. But they don’t. The two best abilities are availability and controllability, two things Renfroe has over Thor.
