Twins Acquire Jeremy Bleich

By Mark Polishuk | July 25, 2019 at 8:29pm CDT

The Twins have acquired left-hander Jeremy Bleich from the Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations, as tweeted by Nate Rowan, the director of communications for the Twins’ Triple-A affiliate in Rochester.  Bleich will be assigned to Rochester.

Bleich signed a minors deal with Boston in April, and has posted an 0.71 ERA in 12 2/3 innings at low-A ball along with a 5.59 ERA over 19 1/3 frames for Triple-A Pawtucket.  These represent the latest stops in an 11-year pro career for Bleich, who was originally selected 44th overall by the Yankees in the 2008 draft.  Minnesota will be the seventh different organization Bleich has called home, and his long resume includes a cup of coffee in the majors, appearing in two games (and pitching a total of one-third of an inning) for the Athletics just last season.

The 32-year-old Bleich has a 3.87 ERA, 7.3 K/9, and 2.08 K/BB rate over 641 1/3 career innings in the minors.  He has started 72 of his 271 career games, though the lefty has worked largely out of the bullpen for the last five years.

When you dfa half your major league bullpen you need someone to pitch for your AAA team.

Had no idea this guy was still doing bus rides in the sticks. Gotta hand it to him. His father is a well renowned heart surgeon so its not like he needs the money to play baseball . Dude has been grinding for 11 years . Hope he gets another shot. Hats off to him

If the bullpen needy Sox decide a guy’s not good enough to hang onto… then no one should probably be acquiring them… lol. But hey who knows!? I wish him the best of luck with the Twins.

Actually now that I take a look at his minor league track record I’m even more confused. Why has this guy only ever pitched in 2 ML games? I mean I’m not saying he’s going to be a dominant RP… but he’s been pretty consistently solid at AA/AAA for several years now, is LH and seems to have the ability to go multiple innings. Idk just seems weird that he’s never been given a chance, when you look around the league at some of the guys who have.

Let’s remember that we wouldn’t want our front office to be only focused on one level (the highest level) at all times. Great organizations operate on multiple levels continually. Most news announcements aren’t that material. At this point — and I know given history it can be hard for us Twins fans — I think we should actually default toward believing “this front office knows what they’re doing.” Not that we shouldn’t question and debate. But if a move like this upsets you, I think you missed the forest for a single small tree.

Red Sox need two moves to contend in the AL. A closer is a must,
Someone like Giles from Toronto. would work.

Another valuable asset would be a guy like Daniel Murphy who is a professional hitter and can play several positions at a very high level. Given the fact that Pearce doesn’t look like he is coming back soon and that Moreland has been hampered by a hamstring, Murphy would be a great insurance policy.

      Didn’t you hear that:
Nate Eovaldi is now the closer replacing Kimbrel?
And Nate got a $68M contract and Kimbrel a $42M?
Kimbrel just came back Late June and has 7 saves already and Eovaldi none?
But don’t forget Eovaldi can throw 1 mph faster than Kimbrel. That’s BIG!
And they picked up Cashner, a power horse SP? 93 mph fastball. LOL
And Moreland just came back. Big power bat here! 13 HR’s.
That’s real big on this team this year.
And they finally started to hit.
They just beat up the Yankees big time.
And John Henry won’t be spending much more money in 2019?.
Because we have had MLB’s highest payroll in 2018 and 2019.
So why would they need anything?
We already have bought it and then some.
And this Jeremy Bleich news is BIG NEWS.
      They got some cash considerations.
      They surely need it.
And Bleich can’t be any good or they would have brought him up.
      So Na Na. LOL
We just finally tied Oakland (one of the lowest team payrolls) for the 5th wild card spot.
      This is BIG NEWS.
It’s funny though but I can’t stop feeling like this 2019 Red Sox team won’t be able to hold leads or comeback when they’re ever behind.
      Wonder why that is???????
      Anyone else feel that way?
Must be that they were so busy in the off season eating fried chicken and guzzling beer?
I mean it’s tough to not get 4 months off and instead get only 3 months off.
With all the fan fare Mookie still only has just 18 HR’s..
34 for the League Leader Trout.
      That’s an MVP!
But Mookie has 5 lifetime 3 HR games. That’s BIG.
I mean Mookie’s right up there with Johnny Mize and Sammy Sosa (Mr PED).
So who needs another World Series Championship when we have records to break like that and can sweep the Yankees after they just swept us? Right?
