Let’s breakdown when the start of the season shall be, GA, TX and TN are getting back to work.

    Baseball should be joining them.

All states should be opening up, just not high population density areas like NYC… so NYC.

They’ll play in June (might just be the second spring training but still). Most likely early June.

JTR is the best option obviously, that said, I don’t think a 110 OPS+ player (3 of the last 4 years) is worth the ~6/132 or so the pre-Covid market would pay him.

110 OPS+ plus elite defense as a Catcher is most certainly worth that.

What’s the most you would give him? Yes, I mean both years and money.

Realmuto is not like other catchers as he has the added bonus of being able to shift to another position on the diamond if something major happens to his legs. I would go 6-7 years with him without second guessing a thing.

Problem is he is a catcher. History says the injury and wear from the position will effect him sooner than other positions.

Now for the Phillies the additional problem is the AL. If Realmuto goes there he can get more regular days off and keep his bat in at DH. So they could end up bidding against a team in the AL who sees the longterm risk reduced/managed more than it can be in the NL

Hmm, I’m not sure that any of Marcus Semien, Andrelton Simmons, or Didi Gregorious are good fits at catcher.

I can almost assure u that if they have 12 months to plan, they’ll come up with something.

and if this isnt cleared up by then we all have much bigger problems than baseball to deal with.

This is already a much bigger problem than a mere game, no matter how passionately we may be fans.

Mets are a sleeper for realmuto if the Phillies fail fo resign him. Brodie really wanted to trade for him before Phillies got him and Ramos will be a FA

A reverse Zack Wheeler! I could definitely see it, but I still think an extension takes place. Phillies have enough to overpay Realmuto. We’ll see though. It’d be good for baseball to see the Mets start splurging again.

Yeah I think he stays a philly too! I’m just saying if it fails the Mets might want to get him.

Last time, Detroit started by signing Pudge. Realmuto could be a good fit with all their pitching coming up and Romine being a one year sign. Plus he won’t cost the bank, allowing for other additions.

Reality will be signing with the Rangers. He is a perfect fit for a young club moving into a new stadium. And he can’t wait to get out of a bad situation in Philadelphia.
