The Giants on Monday announced their initial player pool for the 2020 season. Pools can contain up to 60 players, and only players in a team’s pool will be eligible to participate in summer training camp or regular/postseason games. Teams are free to change the makeup of the pools as they see fit, but once a team’s pool reaches 60 players, a player must be removed (released, traded, waived, etc.) in order to make a new addition. That player becomes ineligible to return to that same team in 2020.
Not all players within a team’s pool are ticketed for MLB playing time, of course. Most teams will include well-regarded but still far-off prospects as a means of getting them training reps with no intention of running them onto a major league diamond this season. A comprehensive review of 2020’s unique set of rules can be found here.
Here are the 51 players in the Giants’ initial pool (* indicates player not on 40-man roster)…

Finally, they were literally the last team in the mlb
rightyspecialist
if I were the GM of this weakass roster I wouldn’t be in a hurry to post it either
DarkSide830
the Ruf is back!

“….the 51 players in the Twins’ initial pool.”
zeltrox
They probably just copied and pasted from the post about the twins

go bart

Hey MLBTR, it’s not the Twins’ roster pool.
2020ball
Hey Pete, its not a big deal.
sf giants mania
They fixed it now anyway

Luciano, Bart, Ramos! Can’t wait to see these boys swing it!

I thought they’d already dropped Joey Rickard and surprised new draft pick, Patrick Bailey’s not on the list but both Brantly and Heinemen are.
But, boy, this is going to be a pretty sad rotation.
hopper15
Bailey hasn’t signed yet.
Pete'sView
Of course. Thanks. In fact, I’ve noticed that the Giants have been particularly slow to sign anyone.
Baseball 1600
Heineman and Brantly showed well in the few ST games that they were in if I recall, and as someone mentioned above me Bailey hasn’t signed.
CCCTL
Positive COVID-19 test for Hunter Bishop, which is why he’s not listed.
Pickle_Britches
Fake news. Smh
CCCTL
Fake news, huh? I wasn’t guessing.
washington_bonercats
Posey, Belt, Crawford, Sandoval and Pence. Would be one hell of a team if it were still 2014.
rightyspecialist
BAHAHAHAHAA
Simple Simon
A healthy Posey might rebound.
The other 4?
MEH!
jpm9q3
Belt will get some homers with the new dimensions. And he won’t start vs lefties. Crawford is done with the bat. Sandoval is great off the bench.
pustule bosey
i think Crawford could well do better this year if not with the bat with the glove since they spent a lot of time going over metrics and you are likely to see him on the left side of 2nd all season. In ST before it was shutyou would see positioning where when a right shift happened you would see longo slide to the 2nd base position and the 2nd basemen go to the OF with crawford @3rd to take advantage of def metrics
ghostrobot
We gonna be terrible! It’s alright guys.
Sadler
Not quite the worst roster a team can have but it sure is close.
jpm9q3
It’ll mash lefties. Hopefully they’ll be able to do some damage against righties with more time off. Bullpen is the key, but Coonrod, Rogers, Garcia all had good years last seasons and Gott showed a lot.
I’m generally not worried about the lineup. 8 above average hitters by OPS+ last year before adding Bart (and hopefully Puig). Bullpen will be the key like it is with almost every team.
rightyspecialist
mash lefties? huh. Thats funny…..I mean, you’re joking right?
jpm9q3
Nope. Completely serious. They will mash lefties
jpm9q3
Flores, Pence and Sandoval mashed lefties last year, before we mention dudes like Bart, Puig and Ruf. You can check the platoon splits or be wrong. You’re choice.
rightyspecialist
This comment about ‘mashing righties’ is idiotic. Pence , Flores , Sandoval don’t mash from the right side. Lol.
As hitters In the NL West they pale in comparison to guys that legitimately‘ Mash’ from the right side.
Betts
Machado
Turner

Pence , Sandoval are old washed up B guys that can’t play every day. Flores is another B guy

Dude said Giants RH Bats can Mash..Lol
Simple Simon
With Puig they might win 20 games and only 19 without him!
2020WorldChampions
Based on that calculation, Puig would be a +7 WAR guy…………Ugh, He ain’t .
brucenewton
20 wins would be respectable.
Simple Simon
The reason we get to see Joe McCarthy and not Chris Shaw: Zaidi drafted McCarthy.
jpm9q3
And Chris Shaw isn’t good
BenKaspick
Except he didn’t. McCarthy was acquired in a trade.
Acgiants2
I find it very strange Posey is the only catcher on the 40 man
jpm9q3
Garcia had major hip surgery in march
BenKaspick
Garcia was on it before getting injured. They’ll obviously add another catcher before games get underway.
