Phillies Claim Ian Hamilton From Mariners

By Connor Byrne | December 7, 2020 at 3:05pm CDT

The Phillies have claimed right-hander Ian Hamilton off waivers from the Mariners, per an announcement from Seattle.

This is the second time since September that a team has claimed Hamilton, as the Mariners did so when they got him from the White Sox. Chicago used an 11th-round pick on Hamilton in 2016 and then saw him turn into a decent prospect in its farm system, but the hard thrower hasn’t seen much action in the majors to this point.

Set to turn 26 years old next June, Hamilton has thrown 12 innings of seven-run (six earned) ball with 10 hits allowed and a 9:7 K:BB ratio. He owns a 4.85 ERA with tremendous strikeout and walk rates (10.1 K/9, 1.85 BB/9) across 42 2/3 innings in Triple-A ball.

Is Middleton going to get on the media and tell everybody that he wouldn’t trade Ian Hamilton for Babe Ruth or Ted Williams or Mike Schmidt?

This is still funny. I think we could get about a year’s worth of comments out of Middleton’s idiotic quotes.

Our bullpen was soooooo bad last year, this guy couldn’t be any worse. Hope he pans out for us. Still, Cigar Guy needs to spend some cheese on relief help. Hand and Treinan would be a good start.

I really thought he was going to be a great late inning option for the Sox. I wish him the best in Philly. Maybe they can turn him around and be that late inning guy.

If nothing else, a very low risk pickup.

In other Phillies news. Dick Allen passed away. One of my favorites. Never forget the SI cover of him in the dugout juggling baseballs while smoking a cigarette.I thought to myself ” Baseball players smoke”?

I wasn’t aware Hammering Hank smoked. I do remember reading somewhere that the reason Hank was so strong is he delivered heavy squares of ice which he had to carry many up many stairs in some buildings before he became a major leaguer.

not only did Hammerin’ Hank smoke, he did so as a KID in a MLB dugout.

John Kirk was at a book signing in a mall, smoking cigarettes. A mom criticized him as being a bad role model, since he was a professional athlete. He said Ma’am, I’m not a professional athlete, I’m a baseball player”.

Middleton officially is spending money in 2021. Maybe not a lot, but it’s something.

If he didn’t get in a car accident in 2019 Spring Training he would have made the Sox. Then getting hit in the face with ball when in the dugout made 2019 a bad year. Has a major league arm.
