Cubs Designate Max Schrock

By Connor Byrne | February 5, 2021 at 5:27pm CDT

The Cubs have designated infielder Max Schrock for assignment, Russell Dorsey of the Chicago Sun-Times tweets. The DFA helps clear room for Joc Pederson, Trevor Williams and Andrew Chafin, whom the Cubs recently agreed to sign.

Schrock had a short stay on the Cubs’ 40-man roster, as they claimed him off waivers from the Cardinals at the end of October. The 26-year-old has limited major league experience (17 plate appearances, all of which came in 2o20) and hasn’t posted impressive production at the Triple-A level. Over 760 PA there, Schrock has batted .260/.324/.350 with six home runs.

All in fun. Grew up with friends of both Sox and Cubs. This would go on all year every year from 1956 to date. It may not sound or read funny but it is meant in good nature ribbing. Please no serious anger is here.

I remember Pete Ward. We used to watch Sox games on WGN, Channel 9..The Sox moved to 32 which we couldn’t get, so we started watching the Cubs and haven’t stopped.

Pete Ward hit a homer off Denny McLain in the first game I ever went to and he became my favorite player, Minoso PH for Tommy McGraw in the 9th inning. Lolich struck him out.

Ha! No, but Bucky Dent spoke at our Little League awards banquet in 1975. It was just after his first All Star appearance which he talked about in his speech. That’s all I remember from that though.

Remember “can’t be any worse than Chris Carter”?
Then we found out it could – indeed – be worse?

Hey…cheers to Luke Voit , man.

Schrockd would be a good term for “got DFAd in a roster crunch”.

That’s a real put-down, but obvious. Alcantara hits his weight, about a buck fifty. Yikes!

He can play SS and is glove first. This is just a push for Baez and Nico being the full time pivot.

Bring him back to St. Louis on a minor league deal and see if he can fit into the middle-infield mix.

It wouldn’t be a minor league deal as they would have to put a claim in on him. He would then be added to the 40 man roster. He hasn`t been outrighted off a roster twice yet to be able to declare free agency.

Good point. They just opened a 40 man spot up, though, so go for it.

Would be good to that middle IF depth back. He also bats LH which is what they need.

Yeah, I know. They’re missing out on a great theme night. But I think the kiddies would misinterpret and think an ogre would show up instead.

Max Schreck played Count Orlok in the silent classic Nosferatu. But if the Cubs had a Schreck night, the kids (and, yeah, everyone else except me and getrealgone2) would think that something else would be celebrated. I guess I’ll take this as my cue to step away from the Internet for the rest of the night.

A poor man’s Max Moroff. Wait, Max Moroff isn’t rich. Just a little more time in the major leagues than Max Schrock, and therefore a little more gelt in his pocket. Oy, to follow in the footsteps of the great Max Patkin.
