Yordan Alvarez To Return Friday

By Connor Byrne | April 30, 2021 at 3:13pm CDT

APRIL 30: Alvarez is back in the Astros’ lineup Friday, McTaggart tweets. The team optioned Jones to its taxi squad.

APRIL 29: The Astros expect Alvarez to rejoin their lineup Friday against the Rays, Baker told McTaggart and other reporters.

APRIL 28: The Astros have placed slugger Yordan Alvarez on the injured list and recalled infielder/outfielder Taylor Jones, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle was among those to report.

The Astros didn’t provide a reason for Alvarez’s IL placement, though it seems to be related to COVID-19. Manager Dusty Baker said earlier Wednesday that Alvarez would miss the team’s game against the Mariners because of “health and safety reasons,” Brian McTaggart of MLB.com relayed.

Alvarez was one of five Astros placed on the COVID-related IL on April 14, but he returned within a week. When he has been healthy enough to play this season, the designated hitter and former American League Rookie of the Year has continued to hold his own with a .309/.355/.529 line and two home runs in 76 plate appearances.

I wonder if teams are using the COVID rules to hide injuries they otherwise would have had to disclose.

How would doing so benefit the club? The player is still out

IL is 10 days. Could someone come back from a covid close contact earlier, say that close contact turns out to be a false positive?

If it’s the COVID IL, they don’t have to wait 10 days. Yordan sure has problems staying away from people with COVID, though.

No, if anything it’s a way to give him some time off while being able to let another guy fill in for a few days. I doubt that’s the case though. Hope he feels better soon and is back in 10 days.

I’ve never understood that concept. If someone falls off a massage table or cuts their hand opening a beer, we hear about it. But if it’s COVID, then and only then does HIPPA take over. Especially when they’re back in less than 10 days, and the only exception to the 10-day IL is for COVID.

The Joel Zumaya guitar hero injury was the best.

Supposedly it’s because those other injuries are “work related” injuries while Covid is a disease.

Although I’m not sure how a rough massage, falling down stairs, Guitar Hero gashes, etc are work-related…so what the heck do I know

Can’t tell if you’re just wrong or a covid-denying a$$ clown but: In COVID-19, “CO” stands for corona, “VI” for virus, and ”D” for disease…right there in the name…

That’s a bunch of malarkey. The former president, whose re-election was stolen from him, told us that the whole thing was made up just to discredit his administration (which was the greatest in US history).

The whole situation was created by the media, just like the moon landing was 50 years ago. Everyone who watches FOX News, the only credible source that’s not tyrannized by the mind-controlling elite, knows that this corona whatchamacallit doesn’t even exist. Now excuse me while I go put my tin foil hat back on to stop those liberals.

This gets a 2 out of 10. One point for no spelling errors and one point for Sid Bream.

I sold a signed card with his autograph for 200 bucks last year, maybe the buyer will see some return on his investment!
