Pirates Trade Adam Frazier To Royals

By Steve Adams | July 16, 2025 at 10:45am CDT

10:45am: The teams have announced the trade. Pittsburgh optioned Devanney to Triple-A Indianapolis.

9:27am: The Royals are set to acquire infielder/outfielder Adam Frazier from the Pirates, reports Robert Murray of FanSided. Kansas City will send infielder Cam Devanney back to Pittsburgh in the trade. Devanney was just selected to the major league roster by the Royals eight days ago but has not appeared in a big league game. Since both players being exchanged are on their respective teams’ 40-man rosters, neither club will need a corresponding move to make the swap official.

It’s a reunion for Frazier and the Royals, as the now-33-year-old veteran spent the 2024 season with Kansas City, struggling to a .202/.282/.294 batting line in 294 plate appearances. Frazier has had a much better go in 2025, returning to the club that drafted him (Pittsburgh) and hitting .255/.318/.336. That’s still below-average, but Frazier has been more productive since mid-May. He’s hitting .302/.356/.387 across his past 119 trips to the plate — albeit with a .360 average on balls in play that he’s not likely to sustain over a larger period of time.

Frazier has played second base, left field and right field in his return to Pittsburgh so far. He’s spent the majority of his time on the field at second base, but the Pirates have been using him in the outfield more over the past month or so. He’ll give the Royals a left-handed bat on what had been an all-right-handed bench and also provide manager Matt Quatraro with an option at multiple positions.

Jonathan India and Michael Massey lead the Royals in innings at second base this year, but both have struggled (and Massey is currently on the injured list). The Royals have used a remarkable 10 players in left field already this season, none of whom have managed to be all that productive. Frazier, presumably, will soon become the 11th player to take reps in left field for K.C. this season.

Frazier signed a one-year deal with the Pirates, which contained a modest $1.525MM guarantee. He’ll be a free agent at season’s end and has just under $615K of his salary yet to be paid out between now and season’s end. The Royals will take on all of that sum.

Devanney, 28, was a 15th-round pick by the 2019 Brewers. Milwaukee traded him to Kansas City in exchange for righty Taylor Clarke back in 2023. He’s enjoying a career year in Triple-A but is in his fourth trip through that level at this point. The righty-hitting Devanney is slashing .272/.366/.565 with 18 home runs, 14 doubles, three triples, an 11.8% walk rate and a 24.3% strikeout rate in 288 plate appearances at the top minor league level. He’s gone 3-for-4 in stolen base attempts as well.

The Royals have used Devanney primarily at shortstop in Omaha, but he’s logged plenty of time at third base and second base as well. He’s primarily an infielder but has gotten some nominal exposure to left field, suiting up for six games there (two in 2025). The Pirates are using Isiah Kiner-Falefa as their primary shortstop, but he’s quite likely to be traded in the next two weeks as well. Devanney could see plenty of time at short for the remainder of the season after Kiner-Falefa is moved, but if he has a long-term role with the team it’ll likely be as a right-handed utility option off the bench. Since last week was Devanney’s first selection to the major league roster, he still has a full slate of three minor league options remaining.

If used in the outfield, he’d be the best outfield bat they have.

          ???

He’s played 1632 innings in the outfield in his career, including 134 1/3 this season.

He can and does play in the outfield

Reading the article helps. He won’t be playing OF, but he clearly has played there before. Speaking on the prospect, not Frazier.

‘If used in the outfield…’ the OP said in reference to Frazier to begin with.

Then you claimed he only played IF positions, though the article CLEARLY states he has played, albeit minimal, outfield.

Every Buccos post you are miserable. We get it. 1966 or whatever. No one feels bad. You could’ve changed your following years 59 years ago lol. That’s on you.

TheMan 3 was replying to a comment that said, and I quote, “Why? Just why?”. It doesn’t specify who it is about and neither does TheMan 3 in his comment.

Frazier has played OF Cam Devanney, who Frazier was traded for, has started 3 games in the OF back in 2022 and played in parts of 2 games in LF this season.

When the article first appeared, it did not mention Devanney playing OF at all. That was added later. .

Just because you are placed in the outfield doesn’t mean you’re an outfielder. He barely has a 2nd basemens arm. Nice bench bat for a contender, although calling KC one now is a stretch.

Devers is hitting .200 refusing to play a position he’s agreed to and cost me $50 in faab in my league to maintain integrity for all.

We’ll get one maybe two more high profile ones but Devers was the mega deal I think.

Fans should hope their team doesn’t do a Devers trade. Fat slow guy with bad back who can’t won’t play defense. Yikes. He could be just fine you never know but I’d rather avoid risk and have that $ to spend elsewhere. I would find a new team if my team traded for him.

Man can hit when he’s healthy.

He’s getting a bad rap from the Boston stuff.

The San Fran stuff I’m kinda on the fence how that’s been reported.

He’s hurt though for sure and is a career .280 hitter.

Was it a blessing for Boston sure but to San Fran the jury’s still out and that’s one bloated contract today.

I wouldn’t move off him his values tanked today buster’s not bright but he ain’t that stupid either.

He could work out. I just don’t see him as a star. If anyone does that’s still a problem because he is Boston’s star. I’d rather do a team friendly extension or two with my own players not someone else’s. Someone younger. Fitter. Healthier. Who plays a position. If he doesn’t regress poorly it’s a good contract. I’d just rather avoid the if and get the best odds I can.

I think 90% of the action at the trade deadline is going to happen on the 31st. It will be a ‘refresh screen every 30 seconds’ kind of day at MLBTR. Teams will wait until the very last second to declare themselves buyers or sellers.

Yorke and Cook both had hot stretches earlier in the year and could have been brought up then. But no, Pirates kill players confidence by not promoting them and then keeping them on the bench even if they do get called up.

As a Royals fan I’m sad to not see Cam play for us. For anyone unaware: “Cam Devanney has had an early, special start to the 2025 baseball season for the AAA Omaha Storm Chasers. Last week, though, he took it to another level, belting three grand slams in five days.” May 19, 2025 — It could have just been a lot of luck, but still, it can get a Perennial Loser’s fan hyped. Lou- Actually,no.These free agents are always one year contracts and if the Pirates are not in contention, which they rarely are even on the periphery, they provide free young players at the trade deadline which is only a couple of weeks away.
The trade now saves the Pirates less than the $50,000 price of a waiver pickup and even Nutting does not care about that.
Regarding Rowdy, even he admitted last year that he did not deserve a bonus, which he did not.

Frazier is over and the Royals should have got more back for him than Frazier. Win- Pirates. Witt had Devaney blocked so he had no future there.

Cam finally deserves a shot to play in the majors. He never got a shot there because of Counsel and Sterns. They refuse to give non prospects a shot. They ran Urias out for three years because of trade for him and his potential. Urias was a joke and those guys refuse to admit they made a mistake. I think he will do just fine for Pittsburgh. Wish him all the best.

He won’t even get a shot for the Pirates. Cherington loves acquiring players and keeping them at AAA no matter how hot they are and how putrid the Pirates offense is. And even if he does get called up, he’ll ride the bench so .158 hitting Jared Triolo can play.

Very true. At the time though, Frazier was an All-Star hitting .325 with an 126 OPS+ with position flexibility. Outside of the home runs, what Frazier did in 98 games surpassed everything Suwinski did in 360. I guess I’m more surprised at the lottery ticket Cam seems he can be than the package we got for Frazier. Though at the time it looked fine.

Suwinski has definitley fell off, no doubt. But his 2022-2023 seasons made it worth Frazier if you ask me. Plus, Frazier’s hot start to 2021 wasn’t sustainable either. He even began to fall off the month prior to the Pirates trading him that year with a 98 wRC+, reverting closer to his 2016-2019 form.

Frazier got a ton of mileage out of the hot start to 2021. He got $8M from the Mariners in 2022 hoping he’d rediscover it, $8M from the Orioles in 2023 hoping he’d rediscover it, and has cracked $30M overall.

He was below average ever since that 2021 start. The overly optimistic spin coming to the Orioles was his “proven veteran” status and his “versatility”. I called him the roster spot occupier.

Just because he can play multiple positions doesn’t mean he fields them well, and his numbers at 2B were poor especially range, when in the OF they were worse. He also only proved he was a below average hitter, with a .300 OBP and slugging under .400, OPS below .700. All for $8M. He was pushed aside for Jackson Holliday/Jordan Westburg last year.

That was better than what Seattle and KC and then PIT again got for him (but for less $). But have to hand it to the guy to be a commodity at a million or 2 a year to be plugged in at a few places, produce below average, and continue to have teams come after him.

I don’t act like anything. I just don’t see the value every one else does in a corner OF who hit .202 but popped 19 home runs lol. 26 of his 100 hits the next year were HRs. That was very blatantly not going to be sustainable – as we’ve come to see is the case with Suwinski.

If he maintained a barrel rate close to whta he had in 2023 at 15.7%, I think it would have been sustainable. That’s an elite number there and was top ten in baseball in 2023. He also played more CF than corner outfield in 2023, and wasn’t horrible.

Suwinski isn’t some star, but what particularly has Adam Frazier done since? He struggled with the Padres and was immediatley salary dumped that offseason for 2 players who aren’t in their organization anymore.

Yeah, Suwinski was not a horrible player in 2022-2023. 45 homers, a 106 wRC+, +3,8 fWAR, solid defense and played all 3 outfield positions. The Pirates messed around with his play-style too much last year, trying to get him to lean more into contact than power, and it’s done lasting damage, but hey, Suwinski did more in 2022-2023 than Frazier has done since the Pirates dealt him the first time.

They also messed around with Jack’s approach. He was swinging outside the zone way more frequently, despite very little change on out of zone pitch rate, and was making far more contact overall, but sacrified most of his power to do it.

2023 Suwinski was a all star platoon. Frazier was a fake all star. Wasn’t sustainable. Wasn’t real. Suwinski was real. He had 30 hr power.

But pirates got greedy. 30 hr with a ton of strike outs platoon only wasn’t good enough for them. So the development team who never developed anyone worked their magic on Suwinski to make him a complete player. The results speak for themselves.

Cherington has changed his tune lately, from “we’re just a player or two away” to “I’m willing to listen to offers for anyone”. And with this horrible team, everyone should be on the table, save for Skenes
Strange that the most interesting thing under Cherington each year is the trade deadline. I’ll predict that whomever they trade will bring back prospects and nothing more.
        The never-ending rebuild will continue

We’ll never bring in players good enough to help Skenes cuz Bob don’t give out multi year deals to FAs. Just imagine the haul Paul, no pun intended, would bring back.

All any team has to do to “contend” in today’s game is play .500 ball. That takes 3 decent starters, a couple of 5’s, and an average offense.

And I’d be happy with a .500 team that plays hard and with intensity every time they hit the field. That’s not here
Your “decent 3 starters” comment is a bit old school in the era of 5-inning starts. Look at what Skenes and Keller have done this year. Falter and Heaney have had good starts. Where has it gotten them?
This team can’t hit. Period. And their fundamentals are atrocious
          But contending, yeah, ok

Anyone anyone wants will be traded. Probably not Cruz. Even more so Skenes. Cutch probably doesn’t want to leave. Anyone else is on the table. Keller Reynolds would take a fair return. But any rentals and soon to be free agents are readily available. Getting out of bad back Hayes is a goal as well.

Yet another reason JJ and the whole front office need to go. The owner only concern is his new stadium. Jj doesn’t have a clue on talent evaluation and neither does the scouting department. Player development group is a joke.
I miss the old days. MR.K was only worried about winning. They scouted well. They developed home grown talent.
Sherman and JJ are making it hard to keep rooting for the Royals.

Rebuilding teams trading for rentals makes zero sense. Ever. Unless of course the rental is overpaid and the other team is attaching a prospect in exchange for you taking him. But that’s not what this trade was. The Royals are the ones who gave up the prospect here. I think I’ll take the one in a thousand chance that Devanney contributes at the major league level someday over 2 months of Adam Frazier when you’re already out of the race, thank you very much.

I don’t hate Nutting. In fact, I don’t hate anyone, let alone business or sports figures. But your continued defense of an individual who is at very best a carpetbagger borders on the ridiculous. And when you continue to carp about attendance with twisted statistics that are self-serving, you lose credibility
The root cause of why this franchise is in such sorry shape begins and ends with the owner. Not the fans. Not even the GM, as inept as he might be. If you tried to wreck a business, let alone a franchise, you couldn’t do any better
In portraying an owner as breaking even thanks to attendance figures ad infinitum as you do, it’s almost as if you’d hope much more profitable revenue steams from MLB and TV were kept secret to verify your argument
It’s not flying, Rich. Not with anyone
There’s a reason Nutting maintains this franchise is not for sale. Perhaps researching Mark Cuban’s discussion on the topic will provide some enlightenment. But then, I’m sure you already have seen such comments and attribute them to yet another guy who “hates” Nutting
    It’s inane. It’s false. It’s prepubescent.

From what I can tell from people knowledgeable about Devanney it was a very good trade.
This is for two and a half months of a free agent player making $2M for the year.
Frazier had begun hitting well but he is average at best at second base and cannot really play the outfield.
Devanney will be up sometime this year perhaps after they trade IKF if they do not put Alika on the ML roster.

D for Pirates. You do the trade. Can’t expect too much for Frazier. But I think they could have done better than a 28 year old prospect. I don’t know a lot about him. Familiar of him but not someone you watch too closely unless it’s your job. Common sense 101 tells me he should be mlb ready at 28 and KC whi knows him best thinks he is significantly worse than Adam Frazier. Wow maybe this trade should be a F. K rate is concerning. If Pirates could fix K rate they would be a 100 win team. But until Nutting fires you gotta keep trying I suppose.

Dream, let’s be honest. Charley Lau could rise from the grave and couldn’t make any of these guys better hitters. They are what they are, unless you’re into small increments. Most of the young hitters are defeated even before they get in the box
Cruz is a prime example. In my playing days, we called guys like him “guess hitters”. He’s nothing more. Occasionally he’ll guess right and impress Greg Brown with exit velocities. But his problems start above the neck
None of these position players are going to bring back MLB-ready players. You know this. I doubt even Cruz would. That leaves guys like Reynolds, who looks lost, Hayes, who will never be a hitter and….well, Cutch, but he’s not going anywhere
It’ll be interesting to see if they peddle Keller, Heaney and/or Falter and if so, what they bring
This franchise needs a young guy who wants to make a name for himself as GM and sees this as his chance.
Burn it all down. Bring in player development people who are also young and hungry and start again. It’s the only way this franchise will ever approach 81 wins, let alone 100

They would (or could, probably not “would”) get significant talent for Cruz. Highly significant.

Guess it depends on one’s idea of significant, Steve. We’ll never know what budgetary constraints are on Cherington, but how many of the guys he’s traded for ever became an impact player here?
I said this a couple years ago and stand by it even as columnists are picking up on the idea: Cruz reminds me of Gregory Polanco in terms of pure ability. The difference is that Polanco worked at it and failed while I wonder how much Cruz is putting into the idea of being a better hitter, outfielder and baserunner

          They would.
Since he came into the league, opponents treat him like he’s Babe Ruth . If a righty is starting, he’ll probably not pitch to him a third time.
He slugs 600 with a 968 OPS the third time .
          That shows he’s learning.

Pirates never have had rightys to put behind him to stop all the lefty relievers he sees.

Paul is back. And good. I get to teach something new to someone that has been watching baseball for 87 years.

You see if you pull a starter just because they gave up 4 runs you won’t have a bullpen because they will have so many injuries at worst or just worn out and useless at best. The starter goes until their endurance health pitch count says they can’t. Runs have nothing to do with it unless it’s like a playoff game.

AI- Pardon us old guys but when we were your age in the old days before the dinosaurs roamed the earth baseball had someone called a long man for these exact situations.
It was a time when the Pirates actually gave a crap about winning games because they had hitters who could actually bring the team back into the game.
And the long man could actually pitch four innings.
Now they just give up and keep the guy in who is not pitching well that particular day.
The Pirates had five good starters a month ago now they have Keller and Skenes.
Washed could still be right. They could still lose 100 games this year.

Mlod Ash could be the long men but when pitchers only go 5 innings you can’t pull one just because they gave up 4 runs. If he gave up 5 6 7 8 you leave him in if he still has some throws in him. I remember pirates scored like 10 runs on cubs in 1st inning and Madden left Lester in. Most extreme case that comes to mind.

I think that the Cubs case may very well have been because they had no bullpen left after using it extensively in the previous games.
In that case he had no choice unless he wanted to bring an infielder in in the third inning and lose by a football score.
And Carmen and Braxton usually can go no more than two innings because of pitch limitations.
That is why I have always thought that Falter would be a good long man because he is left handed and does not throw fast enough to be on limited pitch counts.
What it tells me is that the Pirates give up quickly if the starting pitcher is not pitching well, and that they are very careful not to stretch their relievers.

Hardly anyone brings back mlb players. If a contending team trades their mlb players they won’t be a contending team. Easier to do in off season than deadline. Cubs might trade you that expensive soon to decline outfielder from Pittsburgh area if that’s the mlb player you want. Red sox might trade you there nearest to free agency worst outfielder who is slumping.

You can get young but what do they know? Who’s going to be able to tell if they are good or not? Nutting hired NHL bucco brick Williams who hired Cherington who hired Shelton.

Can’t get anyone with experience. 1 they are happy where they are at. 2 Nutting would need to pay drastically more to steal them. 3 if they are any good their team will match Nutting offer.

Pirates aren’t only team or even worst team. Pretty much teams who developed well 3 5 years ago still are and teams who didn’t still don’t. Not like Tampa and Milwaukee are now awful and development and Rockies White Sox are best.

Scouting department is great. Pirates got the best player in the draft 3 years in a row? How the heck do you do that picking 6th and 9th. There’s some bad ran teams.

Even though Cherington didn’t sign Tauchman Hays Canha I almost want to keep him because I am scared of the next guy. That’s why I am a pirates fan. 8 teams passed on KG the 5 tool black and gold Trout. 8 teams! 5 passed on probably the best highschool pitcher I ever seen.

That might be true but what about Termarr who was supposedly the best young hitter in the draft?
You never know how these guys are going to work out but he has played over three seasons and is only in AA.
I know that he is young and can still develop but it is about time that he proves that he was the best young hitter in the draft.

Full disclosure I know a heck of a lot more about pitching than hitting. I haven’t watched TJ lately. Pretty much just watch my boy KG. But TJ had a pretty swing. Great approach. Raw power. Numerous scouts said he was the best prep hitter they seen in a decade. One famously said a combination of Vlad Sr and Wade Boggs. Must have been a Pirates scout!

I personally hate drafting a 2b that high. Don’t like short guys either. But the only other choice was can do everything but hit the baseball Green strike out machine. Anyone else would have been considered a reach.

TJ might be a good not great player. And you have to be a great player to make it in Pittsburgh. Cutch Marte are the last players they developed into anything special.

Though he’s a high schooler who projects as a second baseman, Johnson is a potential No. 1 overall choice because he might be the best pure prep hitter in decades. He has a track record of pummeling pitchers on the showcase circuit and some evaluators give his bat top-of-the-scale 80 grades. One scout gave him a double Hall of Famer comparison by calling him a combination of Wade Boggs’ plate discipline and Vladimir Guerrero Sr.’s bat-to-ball skills.

Johnson’s hand-eye coordination and swing decisions make him an elite contact hitter from the left side of the plate. He isn’t fazed by mid-90s fastballs or quality breaking balls, using his quick, compact stroke to drive the ball to all fields. Though his listed 5-foot-10 height might be a bit generous, his ability to barrel balls along with his bat speed and strength could make him a 25-30 homer threat in the big leagues.

A shortstop in high school, Johnson will change positions as a pro because his quickness and arm are more average than plus. His hands work well in the field as well as at the plate and he profiles best at second base, where he should be at least a solid defender. He committed to Arizona State

Green has been awful. Look at his stats. Most that class at least early on has been awful. TJ one of the least worst. But it was him or Green. I seen much more of Green. Went to same school as Malone. Had major strike out concerns. TJ was a automatic had to take pick imo. All of Cherington picks have been automatic. The scouting director has much to do with this so lets not give Cherington too much credit. He’s so stupid he thought Shelton was the man for the job.

AI-Shelton was OK for a few years but he was never going to have a winning team let alone a good one.
Not all on him,but he should have been gone when this became obvious.
          You said it best though.
They may not be able to get anyone much better.
But at least now they can try.
I remember the scouting report on Termar and you know a whole lot more than most of us on these very young drafted players.I am not faulting the draft people who I think are fairly good, much better than Huntington’s.But it also behooves the player himself to work at his craft and these guys who have the tools may not have the work ethic and/or brainpower to put it all together. They did not have to use those previously especially in high school so they may not have them for the pros where they are needed.
It is not always the organization but the Pirates have been bad enough that they go against the axiom “ even a blind hog finds an acorn once in awhile..

It’s hard for them to get scouts analytics people. Manager not a problem. There’s thousands of the others but only 29 managers. It would be hard to get the big names but I wouldn’t recommend big names. Shelton end of July had a winning record and only few games out of wild card. Looking at how bad that team was it’s very impressive.

You either don’t know anything about pitching, never seen Malone pitch (and with his injury problems it was hard to do) or valued Marte way too much. Malone late 1st round competitive balance pick. As good or better than Priester taken in same draft.

Peguero lightning quick hands. Loud contact. No doubt SS. If in draft would have been late 1st round pick.

          Scouting grades: Fastball: 70 | Slider: 60 | Curveball: 50 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 50 | Overall: 55

Malone was an exciting, if a bit enigmatic, high school right-hander on the showcase circuit over the summer, one who showed glimpses of plus stuff and athleticism while struggling with consistency and command at times. As the spring wore on, Malone was trending upwards, with an impressive complete-game shutout for IMG Academy in front of a lot of scouts at USA Baseball’s National High School Invitational in early April really helping his stock.

The North Carolina native who moved to IMG for his senior year of high school has the makings of four solid pitches and improved consistency in using them throughout a start. He regularly runs his fastball up to 96 mph and has shown an ability to maintain that velocity deeper into starts this spring. He now features two distinct breaking pitches, with a plus slider a big reason for his step forward. It’s a true out pitch and it’s better than his average curve, which is a bigger 11-to-5 breaker when he maintains his high three-quarter arm slot. He has feel for his changeup, though he can slow his arm a bit on it at times.

After starting the spring looking like the thrower he was over the summer, he’s made strides towards being a more complete pitcher with improved command. Given his athleticism and easy arm action, it’s easy to see him as a future right-handed power starting pitcher, one who should go early enough in the Draft to forego his University of North Carolina commitment.

I seen him pitch and would have traded Marte just for him. Slider was filthy. Fastball sat 96. At worse he would been future closer.

What you say may very well be true but I saw Pequero play and he was way too nonchalant for me.
If he was any good why can’t he hit in AAA after several years?
Malone was hurt I get it but he was too low of a minor league level to project with accuracy.
These lower level guys get hurt,do not mature, are over rated,or do not have the push or common sense or work ethic to compete in a professional environment. Many of these things cannot be measured in the stats that you love.
Prospects are suspects until they prove otherwise.
Cherington was looking for young players because he knew the Pirates were bad but Marte was the best center fielder in a slim market.
It was a salary dump pure and simple. He could have kept him for the trade deadline and got more, even though Marte was on the downside.
I chalk it up to a new GM’s mistakes.

No idea why Peguero can’t hit. He certainly hit in Arizona and did so at 17 years old. Below is segment from a Arizona newspaper. You can get a lot out of reading what the other teams local media says. And their gm is very different than ours. But don’t just take my word that it was a good trade although you should but here it is right from Arizona’s mouth.

In exchange, the Diamondbacks parted with a pair of highly regarded, 19-year-old prospects in infielder Liover Peguero and right-hander Brennan Malone. The club also included $250,000 in international bonus pool money.

Peguero, who ranked seventh in the Diamondbacks’ system according to Baseball America, is an athletic shortstop who drew comparisons to a younger, leaner Jean Segura. Malone, who was the 33rd overall pick in last year’s draft, is a projectable starting pitcher with a mid-90s fastball and the makings of a four-pitch mix.

Hazen hinted at this sort of trade when speaking to reporters at the winter meetings last month, suggesting the club was shifting gears as it moved into a cycle in which it would be comfortable peeling away from its prospect inventory. He reiterated his stance on Monday.

“It was painful giving up the players we did ultimately give up,” Hazen said. “We just felt, as I’ve stated before, we have a duty to both the present and the future and we felt like we were going to have to give something good up in order to get a good major league player. I felt like we did that here.”

I believed you in the first place.Hazen also was quite capable of spinning a good yarn though.
The problem with these guys is that they were both very young.Their projection was based on raw talent which did not even have a chance to grow in college ball.
I would draft Mickey Mantle or Bryce Harper from high school but projections are always inherently problematic unless they are potential superstars and generally played in college.
Termar could turn into a good ML player but he was rated in the top 20 his first year I believe. They were projecting him as an all star player basically.
I got into this arguement with a Phillies fan.
The top 100 prospect list should be divided up by groups of 25 in four different experience levels.I doubt the youngest group would show many successes in five years because too many things can go wrong or their projections were based on an insufficient amount of data.
Hazen did say it best when he said that they received a good ML player which at that time Marte was and to some extent still is over five years later.
My point is that,no,they would not have received two good ML players for Marte, but they should have received two good AAA players who could help the Pirates within a year or two.

You generally get less talent the closer to MLB you are. If you have a 17 year old in Dominican that is throwing hard and shows feel for breaking pitches he’s still 4 5 years away and needs development. You trade him because you can sign 2 more kids just like him next year who’s odds are just as good to make it. You can draft a USA pitcher in the next draft and he will be here much faster than the kid you traded last year. After they are in AA AAA not only do you have a better understanding of what you have but you are depending on them in your near future plans. So like Malone wasn’t as big of loss because a year later you could draft a college arm who will get to MLB before Malone still.

Cherington did right. I’d rather wait on Framber Valdez vs instantly having Musgrove. Malone just couldn’t stay healthy. Injuries can happen to any pitcher. If anything the sooner you can get them under your watchful eye the better. College teams don’t care about the kids arm because he is gone in 2 or 3 years.

I want the best talent and won’t settle for less just because it is closer.

No need to separate by age. You can see the talent. Many things can’t be improved a significant amount. Problem is the sites are wrong. They placed TJ too high and KG too low for example. Why Harrington was ever in top 100 is a mystery.

With me as a Pirate fan, pirates fans should be far and away the brightest bunch. But they are just as awful as any other teams fans. But here’s a treat for you die hards sticking around a day old article.

I know pirates fans love analytics. They love it so much they for some reason think Cherington is this huge analytics guy. So let’s dive into this a bit.

2024 Priester threw his 4 seam fastball 13.6 percent of the time and hitters hit it well they really didn’t hit it but absolutely demolished it for a .409 batting average. Giddy up giddy up eh. Does the analytics tell you that he should be throwing that pitch 13.6 percent of the time?

I personally don’t think Cherington uses analytics at all. Or at least not for anything useful. Or using them but doesn’t know what to do with the information. She’s so fine my .409

Does analytics help you win? Do the Brewers win? Analytics a bad thing? A complicated thing?

Why is Priester doing so well for the Brewers? What kind of dark magic they use to make Priester useful? Did they use mumbo jumbo complex secret analytics? Does everyone reading this see where this is going yet? LoL

How many 4 seam fastballs do you think Priester has thrown as a Brewer? LoL. You know the one hitters hit at a .409 average LoL

Why does Williams and Cherington still have a job?

First off, I want to give you your due props where prospects and the MLB draft are concerned. Without giving you too much credit so as to swell your head even more, you clearly know college and high school quite well. Ask me about basketball or football prospects, sure. But I rely on guys like you or various publications. Kudos, Dream, kudos
I appreciated your sarcasm about my love of analytics. Cough. I don’t hate stats and data and sure, they have a place in today’s game. They just rarely tell the true story. Case in point is a reply I saw about my thoughts on Cruz. Once again, someone wants to supply stats to debate what I see game in and game out. Ok. Fine. The kid has a wealth of talent and maybe someday he’ll get out of his own way. Maybe some elder coach will reach him mentally. Cue Jimmy Leyland. But the improvements one sees are small increments. Can you build a team around the kid?
You disdain the idea of another rebuild and I agree with you that trading away a player like a Keller or Hayes or Reynolds will not yield true *MLB players*. And yet, that thinking only gives credence to the idea that yes, they need to burn it all down and start again. New GM? New player development staff? Seems to be a need if the scouting people have done an admirable job here
You explained in great detail the TB model the Pirates embraced a couple years ago. To me, it’s their only path to being competitive.
But what happens when the kids you counted on failed to develop, for whatever reason? Suwinski, Castro, Peguero, Endy, Davis and a boatload of outfield prospects didn’t progress
The answer can’t be more patchwork from the bottom tiers of free agencies or odd trades for guys on the way out of MLB
It’s going to be an interesting couple of weeks here. I would think the GM will be a big seller based on the listless play this team has shown so far
Someone needs to provide a breath of fresh air, some exuberance to be in the majors, from the front office on down. And it’s not going to come from guys doing the same thing over and over again.

Wuot-it is difficult to argue with youngsters on analytics,as they see it as a means to an end instead of just a tool.
They quite often do not understand the human component which cannot be easily measured and certainly not quantified.
Life is just not that cut and dried,
These players are humans before they are players.
There are so many things that can affect them adversely that it is very difficult to predict how good they will be.See my previous posts.
A good system development team is very important for any team, but especially for small market teams.
The Pirates evidently have a very good one for young pitchers, but certainly not for young hitters.
But it is still up to the players to learn on their own like to Gonzalez and Davis have done to augment their professionalism.
And that trait is one of the ones that cannot be quantified by statistics.

          Well stated, as usual
I’m at a bit of a loss to understand yet again how a team that has been a perennial loser that drafts high every year continues to be in the doldrums
The draft is meant to turn a franchise’s fortunes around, no matter the sport. Dream points to the incredible selections they’ve made. Ok, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt as he knows much more than I do. But then, if tats the case, how can such a glaring problem be allowed to continue. If all jobs are essentially predicated upon performance, how does such a department get a pass to continue each year?
Yes, they’ve excelled in developing pitchers and the pipeline looks strong even now. But where position players are concerned, the farm is a wasteland
Dream says good scouts and development people don’t grow on trees and on one hand, command good salaries and on the other, aren’t going to leave a good situation for where they have to start from scratch. I get that. But there are only so many jobs out there. It’s hard to fathom that there aren’t young guys who wish to break into the show by having the opportunity to turn a franchise around.
What’s happened here is almost unbelievable

There’s young people are the smart teams hire the best of them as well. They were good enough to hire the good people to make them good and those good people hire the next wave of good people. Nutting Williams Cherington Shelton how far do you have to go to find someone talented. It starts at top. Their scouting director is good. Drafts who I would at least 1st round.

Remember I said KG Black and Gold Trout. That was a extremely as bold a statement one could make. A year later was I not right? If you could go back would you draft someone else? Now if he doesn’t make it fans will say Cherington can’t draft. Another bust. Have to fire Cherington can’t let him draft again. And it would have nothing to do with KG talent.

Cherington hasn’t made a 1st round pick yet as a Pirate. Every draft there was someone sitting there they had to draft. Clearly the best player available.

Why are they failing? Gonzales is just a guy not a impact player. Jones made a impact (above 500 at deadline) but he’s hurt. Davis hasn’t made a impact. Bubba hasn’t made a impact. TJ hasn’t made a impact. So players too young, need more time. Jones hurt. Davis Gonzales failed to become good to great players. If one of them was a all star that would make a huge difference in lineup. Combine that with Hays Tauchman you are talking playoffs right now. Well all now how awful development is. But also prospects fail. Also too soon to call. Some players find it mid late 20s.

I know you like to blame scouting but find any scout who said any of these guys were top 10 players in their draft. I’ve never seen one. I seen ones who had Crews Langford over Skenes. Seen 8 teams pass of black and gold Trout for a 2b 1b even a dh. Seen 5 teams pass on the best prep pitcher I ever seen. 2 of them took guys with severe reliever risk.

I think that at this point they have to throw the dice as you have mentioned.
I do believe that Cherington has picked the best available player in his drafts and that is what most teams do.
I think that AI is right that most of them have been no brainers.
For whatever reason though the non first draft choices have provided nothing except for the Davis/Chandler duo including no position players of note.

Barco is real prospect. Few guys traded for Horwitz. 1 for Choi. 1 for Joe. First draft was only 5 rounds. 2 guys for Joe Choi. Gonzales Jones.

Actually, I questioned the scouting. Blame rests solely on player development
Again, how can it be that the farm has produced ZERO impact players in Cherington’s time here? It’s almost unbelievable

Your comment about young, fiery types is a bit off here. Every company, corporation or in this case, franchise only has so many positions. That’s not a theory but rather, a fact. You can’t tell me that whatever the position, there aren’t young, hungry candidates who’d love to build resumes here.

But Nutting prefers to go in this direction. A hockey guy as president. A GM who is out of his depth. A player development program that is an abject failure.

          Makes no sense

Oh they could find a president or gm easily. I’m talking about boots on the ground teach players to be great at baseball. Not a good international player developed since Marte. Not a good prep player since Cutch. Not a good college player since Bonds. Let that sink in. Cherington is one of the better gms in baseball drafting and trading. Can maybe even develop pitching they say. Has he developed anyone taken after 3rd round? How about international? Why hitting sucks. He only drafted Gonzales Davis TJ. Everyone else was pitching.

Mike Rizzo Washington gm just got fired. Harper Rendon Soto. All in same time frame. Traded for Turner Woods Abrams.

All these Red Sox bats that we would need to even think about trading Skenes.

And we have to go back 20 years for Cutch Marte and 40 years Bonds.

Agree 100%. And that’s the thing. When you look at the overall ineffectiveness of the player development program, you wonder how the staff can stay employed. You wonder why the front office hasn’t said, hey, we have to do better than this.

I don’t think I like Rizzo. Like Cherington Strasburg Harper automatic picks. Strasburg extension was awful. Trading Soto for a huge return is the easiest thing you can do. He did get Juan Soto but what latin talent has he found since? His owner let him sign Corbin Scherzer and extend Strasburg. Nutting won’t be doing that. His farm isn’t good. Traded for Lowe. Signed Bell.

Rizzo looks washed up. Ok but never good. Just got lucky and in right spot. Likable guy though.

          Neither is Nutting.
This is going to be 2019 mass firings part deux.
          And another 100 loss season.
It is a shame that this team never really got much better.

I was surprised when Nutting fired Huntington.
For a period in the middle of his time here I thought that he was the excellent GM that the Pirates needed and not only because of their very fine three year record.
But if Cherington cannot win in six years then he would only be capable at best of making slight increments going forward.

Old Timer-I think that that was the worst trait that he had but his lineups were haphazard, his bullpen use was sometimes questionable, and he continually said “we have to be better”,but he never did.
It was his first ML managing job,but it will probably be his last for those reasons.
He was likeable enough, and did not knock his players, but I do not think that he was actually bright enough to grow into the position.
And of course he did not have the players, especially the first three years,so if he would have been more of a Type A personality,he may have quit or the Pirates probably would have fired him much sooner for his own good.

AI-Then why did Falter suddenly become a fairly good starter and Heaney performed very well for the first half of the year?
Did the PIrates over rate Yorke?Maybe, but the Red Sox have good hitters but not good pitchers and Priester looked overmatched,as he was in Boston too.
The Pirates were trading from a surplus.
Common sense tells you that you need to make a change from something that gives you a 409 batting average( nice touch on The Beach Boys). But maybe they did not have enough time to consider that when they knew that they could get who they thought was a good young hitter.
The Brewers come in at the end after the pirates and Red Sox and have enough data to understand it.Priester had also probably been walking too many with his breaking balls so that he had to throw fast balls when hitters knew that they were coming. Are his breaking balls much better now and throwing strikes with them more?
I think that this shows that the use of data is much more complicated than you think when other factors are factored.
There is a saying “figures lie,and liars figure”.Nobody is a liar on any of these posts, but data and especially the analysis of it is a nuanced endeavor to be able to put good credence into analytics.

Heaney small sample size. Era now is just the same actually bit worse than texas last 2 years.

If you think Falter is better as a Pirate you better look at his 2022 stats. Era similar. Fip bit lower. But his strike outs and walks are drastically better. Philly Falter superior to Pirates. Not even close.

Pirates in 2012 to 2015 were on the forefront of innovation pitching low in the zone. Mlb changed the strike zone yet for the next 5 years Hurdle Searage kept the low in the zone.

The new fad was 4 seam high in zone. It hasn’t been new for a while now. But even though Priester 4 seam stinks the Pirates because that’s what everyone else did does and it works on their garbage hitters had Priester giddy up giddy up 409! I put those in so you old guys will like me!

Boston wanted Jones. Want Keller. Traded for Crochet. So are they pitching gurus up there?

But Boston did get a better prospect from Milwaukee AND a late 1st round pick. It’s not that they gave up on Priester it was more of a offer they couldn’t refuse.

You can read my opinion on Yorke here
        mlbtraderumors.com/2024/07/pirates-red-sox-to-swap…

To sum it up it was a desperate trade to get some hitting depth into the system because Cherington failed to develop any. I didn’t expect much of Yorke and he hasn’t disappointed me. Cook even worse.

          Don’t pick and choose.
Phillies knew that he looked real good his first year, which if I recall was maybe four months.
My point is that one thing that the Pirates do very well is pay attention to the pitchers.
He looked absolutely great in May of this year for the Pirates.
He absolutely stunk his second year with the Phillies, and that, along with his 90 mile per hour fastball,is why the Pirates could get him half way through the year for a minor leaguer who carries his cell phone with him on the basepaths.
Heaney was very good for half a year until his implosions over the last 15-20 games.Maybe they worked with his pitch selection.Milwaukee is not the only team that does that.
You may very well be right on Cherington and Yorke, and Cook always was a long shot although they did not give up much for him.

Philly just really liked Castro and didn’t like Falter. 2023 he had 7 starts. And more strike outs and fewer walks than this year. Only thing Pirates really did was give him opportunity. They probably made adjustments. Will probably make more. 2022 Falter was better.

Yeah Heaney was good for a month or 2. What happened? Seasons longer than a month or 2 although in Pittsburgh it’s over by then.

It made ZERO sense for the pirates to sign Frazier. 100 percent not needed when they could have used his ABs and playing time on the future. Ben Cherington needs to go. At least he got something for him. Now trade IKF, Bednar and Keller and Hayes for the 10th rebuild plan.

In return for this free agent signing, let’s give Devanney a chance.
No one in AAA has proven themselves as earning a ML chance,so we will see how that works out with the IKF upcoming trade.
This is routine for certain teams to trade their free agents at the deadline.

I’d trade Reynolds Falter Keller if offered fair return.

Hayes if anyone wants him absolutely gone.

Heck anyone not named Skenes I would trade just for fair value. Clean house start fresh.

Not a rebuild. Nothing was ever built to rebuild from. Skenes is it. Keller Cruz nice players. After that it’s easily replaced guys.

More of a winter vacation for me. Escape the cold. July draft and deadline. My favorite time of year. This is my vacation. I used to vacation and go to sporting events and concerts like crazy. Anything that sounded interesting I was in. Used to go to casinos more. Eat out more. Seen every blockbuster movie. Clubs.

Now I find more entertainment staying home. Movies stink. Everyone can afford and has giant clear tv screens. I can make better drinks at home. No limits. Top quality ingredients. A steak at a chain restaurant fillet is $25 $28 $30 and only 6 or 8 ounces or something. I can buy a pound for what $20 $22 $24. Taste just as good to me. No tip. No tax. No $3 $4 for a ice tea. I’ll still go once a week but I was eating out like 10 times a week. Never packed lunch. Now I’ll cook enough for leftovers or just not eat until dinner. Sick of fast food.

I enjoy sitting by pool or on deck or in living room just as much as a beach.

Thing I really hate about going out is restrooms. Inch of urine on the floor so you stand at urinal sliding around in other people’s urine. Can’t go 2 because you want to drop your pants in it? Can’t wipe because they put the bath tissue in the worst spot jamming your knee in. And any event lines. Have to wait in line to go to bathroom? These were always problems I realized long ago but I finally got tired of them.

I dunno just my rant. I never talked to anyone who likes using mens restrooms. I’ve seen #2 splattered all over the seat the tank even the walls.

I always loved cruise ships though. Until something goes wrong and I am stuck on one. All you can eat is always a win for me.

But the $10 drinks and bathrooms etc make me not want to go. Pay for parking. Ticketmaster fees and taxes. Since the health crisis I don’t even know what things cost.

-I’ll be making another of my semi-annual treks down there soon. My home away from home. I’m not a big heat guy or even beach guy, but the family is and truthfully, a change of scenery is always nice

-Ticketmaster fees, you say? One of my interests is concerts. With the advent of something called “dynamic pricing” you can expect to take out a loan to see your favorite acts now. McCartney is 83. Plays 3 hours. But imagine my shock at seeing average seats starting at $880 in presale and nosebleeds going for $350+ yesterday. The world has gone crazy

-I share many of your complaints here and recommend you do what Paul and I have done: take up gardening. Plants. Fruit trees.
Life after retirement is all about feeling some sense of purpose. All about maintaining passions and that in itself is difficult.
MLB, the Pirates, pro sports and college athletes who are now paid no longer do it for me. I can’t watch entire games anymore.

I do a bit of gardening. It’s beneficial. I’m a free spirit jack of all trades type. Bounce around with hobbies. I can afford concerts and such. It’s just the idea of it. I seen so many people. Some new ones I would like to see. Some old ones see again. To me though the concert is the middle ground I want to be in. I’m not rich enough to hire them to play my birthday party. Don’t have enough connections to hang with them all in person. So watching them on YouTube is the best thing for me. Bathrooms. Driving. Parking. Fees. Other people lol.

Well I got some excellent news for you. Since you think that is a great song I found you hundreds of more great songs. Many you likely never heard yet since you heard you’ll be coming down you pretty much heard. Because they all use the exact or somewhere between 80 to 100 percent exact melody in the chorus. Producers will hear a song and find it to be very lackluster and don’t see it as a hit so they will throw this chorus in to jack it up. A great deal of people like it, mostly the young demographic they are going for but you like it and probably aren’t alone but the kids really eat it up. They didn’t steal it off the boss as there are older songs that have same chorus. I’m going to give you a list of some examples. You are welcome to listen to them all or just randomly pick a few out. If you have any ear for music you will pick it up. All use same melody for chorus. Actually a few use it for the entire song.

          Rose APT
          Lady Gaga Judas
Troye Sivan One of Your Girls
          Altar Poppy
          Lewis Capaldi Forever
          Madison Beer Reckless
          One Direction Night Changes
          The Vamps Can We Dance
The Strokes Ode To The Mets
          Joshua Bassett Cherry Blossom
          Demi Lovato Mellon Cake
          Imagine Dragons Follow You
          Babymonster Forever
          Gwen Stefani Cool
          Ava Max So Am I
          Weekly After School
Downside I don’t know how they found me
Stephen Sanchez until i found you
          Carly Rae Jepsen Love Again
          Charli XCX White Mercedes
          Left Outside Alone- Anastacia

I’m a huge Rose fan and while like the boss with you that wasn’t one of my favorites but i liked it and it grew in me. But the first time I heard it i was like i heard it before lol. Didn’t take me long to realize lady Gaga Judas. That song I don’t even like but i remembered the catchy chorus. The rose chorus is my favorite out of all them and then lady gaga i guess. They are a bit different closer to the 80 percent than 100.

I am immune to their jedi mind tricks though. I grew up with all these artist and songs and didn’t like a single one until rose that came out this year. No doubt Bruno Mars put that in because he is a co writer on another song with that chorus.

I’m not a boss fan but must say after Rose APT, you’ll be coming down is the 2nd best song on the list. You actually may heard APT playing somewhere. It’s the biggest song in 2025 and one of the most successful songs in history. Should have been the boss biggest hit. Hundreds of artist tried to make it epic and decades later it is.

Mind blowing is it was a hit in 1960s. Different time. And it was slowed down. But Mr Tambourine Man. Boss probably a Dylan fan and of the better versions his is one of the best and earliest. But Gwen Stefani is pretty close and 3 years earlier.

If you watch on YouTube Madison Beer, Poppy and Ava Max are probably the easiest on the eyes and are dead ringers for Bruce’s song. Rose probably easiest on eyes if you like Korean but not as dead of a ringer as the other songs. I mean some if not 100 percent are 98.8 99.9 only thing different are the words.

But on that list is slow songs, rap songs, non English songs, truly the most awful song you ever heard. Whatever. But they all have that same catchy ( for majority of people) chorus.

You’re into more modern rock and that’s fine with me. At least they’re playing instruments and singing At least AI hasn’t taken over yet with writing, “playing” and recording. But that’s coming. Who needs a band when AI can do it for you?
Not a huge fan of Bruce or Dylan ( love Blood on the Tracks) but it would take me reams to list favorite bands, from The Beatles to Boston, Stones to Van Halen or Who to Fleetwood Mac and everything in between. But for the most part, that era is gone. It used to be listeners dictated what was played and now record execs mold genres. It used to be that you had to buy the music but now you can download for free. No wonder concert tix cost so much
Thanks for the listing. Most of the artists I have never heard of but I enjoy researching newer artists and giving a listen

Those aren’t people I like or even good music. Just every one of those songs has the same chorus. And there’s a 50 or 100 more songs like that. That’s what I found interesting. And that Bruce was one of them.

My music taste is all over the place. I like pop rock. K pop. Alternative rock. 80s 90s rock. 90s country. Movie soundtracks. 60s oldies. Whatever catches my ear.

Just about everyone hates new music at some point. Don’t think it will happen with me. I am always finding stuff.

Lots of people still rocking. A lot of women but that doesn’t bother me. Although not many people since 2015. But Rose and Olivia Rodrigo rock. Pop but a lot of rock in their songs. Reminds me of 80s rock. The pretty reckless could have played in any decade 60s 70s 80s 90s 2000s. Paramore was good 2000s 2010s alt rock.

Pretty Reckless if you never listened to them and don’t mind a chick singer they have a song for you. From 60s rock. 70s rock. 80s rock. To screaming metal. I think she said her favorite band is AC DC so if you like them you will probably like her. And if she looks familiar she played cindy lou who in grinch. Quit a hit tv show to start a rock band. She’s interesting character.

Oliva Rodrigo Ballad of a homeschool girl. Pretty rocking song. All American B itch I like as well. But if you hate Avril Lavigne Alanis Morreset you won’t like here. But if you never listened to them they have some rocking stuff early in their career. I mean some hard rock pushing the border to soft metal.

All male rock bands I have no idea where they went. There some 2000s bands 1 hit wonders mostly. The women make it. Halestorm are supposed to be pretty good. I heard a few songs and thought average but I need to do a deep dive one day. But if you are just a rock guy they might satisfy your itch.

Random artist I can think of

          Buddy Holly like
Tommy sings crimson and clover like
          Beatles like
Led zep not huge fan but like stairway
          Elvis like a lil
          Eagles fing hate the eagles
Pink Floyd not fan but wall is ok. Never done deep dive and wall is only song i can think of
          Van halen love
Ac dc their alright a lot of similar songs one trick pony
ZZ catchy few songs but just ok
          Mellencamp like
          Petty love
          Dylan not a big fan
          Poison like
          Aerosmith pretty close to love
Whitesnake ok but love here I go again
          Tesla love
          Doors kinda like
          Bob Marley like
          MJ like
          Maddona few ok songs
          Def Leppard like
Clapton not huge fan but Layla like a lil
Ozzy has a few songs I like
          Metallica few songs i like
Bruce not a fan but few catchy songs
80s hair bands like the few hits they have in general.
Cindy Lauper I love her 3 big hits
          Brintney Spears love her hits.
          Aguilera just ok
Shakira love and talk about rock. Her early stuff rocks if you don’t mind Spanish lol
          Nirvana like enough
Alice in Chains Like a bit.
Taylor Swift before 15 like a bit of it.
Beyonce not a fan few catchy things
U2 not a fan but beautiful day catchy
          STP not fan
          Weezer some catchy songs
          Limp Bizkit lol
Kid Rock better that limp Bizkit lol
          REO Speedwagon few catchy songs
Chicago 1 catchy song maybe 2
Kansas yes don’t know much of them carry on wayward son is alright maybe good
Steve miller few catchy songs poor mans tom petty
Megadeth I couldn’t name a song but seen them live and they were awesome
Every 80s band I seen in the 2000s was pretty awesome. High energy seemed to enjoy themselves. Enough brainstorming with random bands lol. I can probably find a song I like from anyone. Only Paula Abdul song I know is straight up and it’s catchy. Lady Gaga has handful of songs I like. That steal my sunshine song is cheesy but catchy.

But like one direction I don’t like or don’t even know a song. I think most popular songs I can say it’s catchy and ok but don’t get how people can listen to it again and that it will be popular in 50 years or even 20.

Won’t find much rap or r and b on my playlist. Although outcast hey ya is pretty fire.

Who I don’t like at all.

John Mayer what’s he even sing
Justin Bieber not even baby baby
Bruno Mars except on song with Rose his Superbowl was awful or was that the weekend whatever he sings. Like i know they had mega hits but day later forgot.

Nickelback probably good for their time but today it’s pretty lackluster.
Train I know the name heard some songs but that’s all i know.
Dave Matthews I know the name couldn’t name a song.
Grateful dead. I like touch of grey their commercial hit but nothing else caught me.

It’s not like I listened to every song or search them out. Just what I stumble upon.

Beach boys catchy songs that I find ok enough just never listen to them. That’s a lot of songs.
Like i know eddie $ 2 tickets to paradise. Don’t like it enough to ever play it but alright catchy song. Michael Bolton how can we be lovers. Catchy and kind of rock.

          Bryan Adams cheesy but good.
Iron Maiden very mid. I enjoyed the fews songs I sampled but not enough to listen to again.
Guns and roses I like not love their hits at least.
          Evanescence they rock
Greenday catchy but not for me.
Johnny Cash pretty awesome not a fav but once in awhile.

Rap and AI though is present future. I got a bad feeling about this. Former president singing Hurt was pretty hilarious though. Current president singing we are world with other leaders wasn’t good but I clicked on it and watched it. You can find anyone singing anything. I watched Conway Fitty. Fifty cent in da club alright for rap. Conway Fitty was better though.

That’s it though. But if you get bored one day tell me your favorite 10 songs or some guilty pleasures. Like that call me maybe song is pretty freaking catchy. Paul told me one time that he likes to cry himself to sleep listening to Bette Midler. And Mendoza had a huge crush on one of the new kids on block another no songs for me they don’t have the right stuff.

Ok I understand what your previous listing was all about now
I’ve heard Olivia sing a few songs. I’ve heard Dua Lipa. Nice vocalists.
I’ve listened to Taylor Momsen and The Pretty Reckless. Tremendous vocalist but need better guitar riffs. And the subject matter of most of their songs, well, no thanks. Maybe they’ll grow up. Maybe not.
I like The Struts. Nice throwback kind of sound
And again, I’ll stop there. I could fill an entire thread with bands and singers I like, who I’ve seen etc. I salute a lot of what you’ve listed. Some, not so much.
But they write, play instruments, sing and I appreciate that. I suspect that’ll all be a rarity in the not too distant future

Having been forced to listen to rap from kids in the inner city for 30 years, it’s just garbage to me. Same regurgitated themes, same regurgitated lyrics. Little musicianship. Street poetry, ok. Music? A joke. Keith Richards was right when he called it “defecation for the ears”
Force fed on American kids by record execs
It’s no wonder to me that modern country music is basically 70’s country rock. Discerning ears need an alternative to “hip hop”
          Pure garbage

It would be hard to list ten top songs.
Start with A Day in the Life, Let it Be, More Than a Feeling, Good Lovin Gone Bad, Won’t Get Fooled Again, Street Fighting Man, Silver Springs, Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo and work down from there. I end each night with a cigar and Earle Bailey playing tunes on Classic Vinyl
But I can assure you, he never plays Bette Midler
          Thank God

I hate rap. And especially any rap last 10 15 years. I watched a video the top 5 songs each year since 1964. You can see the music gradually go down hill at some point and late 90s to late 2010s at some point really go down hill but around 2015 to 2018 it just fell off a cliff. It went from I don’t like but it’s catchy a tad bit or could see how someone might like it then 2017 or so just absolutely trash. 2021 2022 had a Olivia Rodrigo song and i was like that’s why i like her. In the last decade almost she is one of the few that isn’t complete trash. Anyways some of these songs were on list or list made me think of them.

          Neil Diamond
Redbone Come and get your love
          Bad Leroy Brown
          Playing with queen of hearts
          My Maria
          Jessie’s girl
          Little red Corvette
          Heart Alone
Got my mind set on you
          Chicago look away
          Save the best for last
          Baby got back
Ace of Base love their 2 songs
          Jewel 1 song
Bob Seger Old Time Rock and Roll love
          Party rock anthem love
          Cold play viva love
          Ariana Grande Break Free love

That’s how i find or found music. Watching videos like that or top 100 1 hit wonders etc.

          One more thing.

I would dump my girlfriend. Never talk to my best friend again. If they liked the weekend, drake, or jelly roll. Torture to the ears. Explains why society is what it is. Don’t know how anyone can like that. Edit it’s not jelly roll it’s the other white dude from Colorado that lost weight. Don’t remember hus name. Post Malone. Had to look it up. Jelly roll we can still be friends maybe but post Malone awful.

Rihanna umbrella ella ella eh eh and Dirk durk durk dirk is a masterpiece compared to that garbage.
