Reds Place Mike Moustakas On 10-Day IL

By Connor Byrne | April 20, 2021 at 5:09pm CDT

The Reds have placed third baseman Mike Moustakas on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 17, Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer was among those to report. The team reinstated infielder Alex Blandino from the COVID-19 list in a corresponding move.

Moustakas hasn’t been in the Reds’ lineup since April 14 because of what the team has called a non-COVID-related illness. Cincinnati did, however, list him in its starting lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Diamondbacks before reversing course.

Moustakas, who’s in the second season of a four-year, $64MM contract, got off to a fast start this month before his illness sidelined him. The 32-year-old has slashed an excellent .289/.404/.553 with two home runs and as many walks as strikeouts (seven) in 47 plate appearances. Since Moustakas has been out, the Reds have turned to Kyle Farmer at the hot corner.

Weird he was good enough to think about starting a few hours ago but now is so bad he’s got to sit for another week.

Must be one hell of a non-Covid illness! I do wonder why the only made it retroactive to 4/17 when the last time he played was 4/14? You’d think they would have chosen 4/15 as the date.

Reds have a history in covering injuries up. Senzel misses time to vertigo every year but they never disclose it that way.

And it could be covid but moose doesn’t want his medical profile public.

Why didn’t the reds move Suarez to 3b and play the actual ss at ss.

Probably want to give Suarez some stability at SS. And Farmer is more of a utility guy than a SS. The Reds don’t really have a true SS on their active roster.

I wish Moose would tweet more about the team he’s on and how much he enjoys Cincinnati. Everything he posts and tweets is about the Royals. World Series or not, they’re in the past, and Cincy gave him this huge contract, so hopefully he can pretend he loves being a Red.

Almost as bad as Ricky Nolasco and his ill-fated Twins signing. Dude HATED Minnesota with a passion.

This was a odd take so I went to his Twitter. He has like 7 tweets this year and they’re all retweets. The ones about the Royals were about his former teammates and I assume current real life friends getting paid big money.

I guess what I’m saying is, what are you mad about? lol

He’s hurt all the time. Love the guy when he’s in the lineup but it’s constant.

He was also in the starting lineup Friday against Cleveland and then was pulled.

Mediocrity, thy name is Cincinnati Reds.

    Signed: Lifelong mediocre Reds Fan

Of course Moose is sick. So am I – of mediocrity. He needs a mental health break before resuming his mediocre role with the mediocre team. At least he is paid well for his suffering.
