A’s Place Ramon Laureano On Injured List, Recall Skye Bolt

By TC Zencka | June 1, 2021 at 5:09pm CDT

The Athletics have placed outfielder Ramon Laureano on the 10-day injured list with a strained right hip, retroactive to May 28th. Skye Bolt has been recalled from Triple-A, per Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle (Twitter links). The A’s have confirmed the move.

Laureano hasn’t played since last Thursday because of the injury, which was originally termed “right groin tightness,” per Kawara. It’s been a strong season for Laureano, who has already posted 1.9 bWAR/2.1 fWAR through 48 games. Mark Canha figured to continue to see time in centerfield in Laureano’s absence.

As for Bolt, he was claimed off waivers by the Giants on April 5th, but he managed just one plate appearance across the bay. The A’s re-acquired him exactly a month later for cash considerations. He has mashed at Triple-A this season for Oakland, slashing .375/.488/.625 over 80 plate appearances with the Las Vegas Aviators.

Ha, I too had to comment about the name.. Looks like he showed off some decent speed back in A+ &AA ball.

Laureano is one of the more exciting, if unheralded, players in the league. Hope he stays the minimum on the IL

I agree he’s unheralded. One of the best players at a position where there is surprisingly little star power in MLB.

He’s a little too angry/intense, if he shows more joy out there instead of looking pissed off all the time then he will ascend to proper superstar status sooner. He’s similar to Trout but if Trout is 10/10, Laureano is a 8.5/10 – that’s still an all-star elite player, Trout is just the highest possible bar!

He seems to get injured every so often, kinda plays over aggressive and somewhat reckless at times. If a’s had to keep one player I’d sign laureano, but he’ll be be traded or leave via free agency like usual

Like 4 out of 5 posts on this site are IL related. Injuries in MLB are completely out of control.

Yep, they should have started the season May 1 and none of this happens (or at least not to this extent). It’s entirely the fault of the short preseason.

If you’re bored, watch some of Laureano’s throws from the outfield. Incredible.

“Dollar Store Mike Trout” sounds like an insult, but it actually isn’t.

I wish his name wasn’t his only tool – 80 grade name, -20 grade player smh

A’s should trade Jefferies for a decent OF regular so Bolt/Barrera/Piscotty/Kemp see zero innings there for the rest of the year.

This is the Tony Kemp that is hitting @375 in his last 15 games and leads the A’s in average right now. Or have we signed Matt Kemp?
