Astros Activate Carlos Correa, Austin Pruitt

By Anthony Franco | July 16, 2021 at 4:54pm CDT

The Astros have reinstated shortstop Carlos Correa and right-hander Austin Pruitt from the injured list in advance of tonight’s game against the White Sox. Correa had been on the COVID-19 IL, while Pruitt was on the 60-day IL all year after undergoing elbow surgery last September.

The Astros had a pair of vacancies on the 40-man roster, so no corresponding moves were necessary in that regard. However, they will need to make a 40-man move whenever left-hander Brooks Raley, who also landed on the COVID IL last week, returns. To clear active roster space, infielder Taylor Jones was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Correa’s having an incredible platform season, hitting .288/.385/.510 over 358 plate appearances while playing high-end defense at shortstop. Pruitt, meanwhile, will be making his first major league appearance since 2019 (and his Astros’ debut) whenever he enters a game. Houston acquired the righty from the Rays over the 2019-20 offseason, but the elbow issues that eventually required surgery kept him from pitching last year. He worked to a 4.87 ERA/4.23 SIERA across 67 appearances (ten starts) with Tampa Bay from 2017-19.

I generally listen to the radio broadcast of these things, Ford & Sparks are REALLY insightful, and discussed the walk problem the bullpen has had this year, tonight, but did not indicate panic time.

What do you think Click will do next 2 weeks? There is some jabber about bolstering starting staff.

Starting pitching has done well, so I’d rather see a bullpen upgrade. However, perhaps they could do both.

Hahaha. Correa does MMA training in the off-season. That and the fact that he’s 6’4 220 makes me think he’d more than hold his own. But glad to see you take baseball so seriously that you would risk finding out.

By the way, do you also plan to fight all the pitches that used sticky stuff, the players that used steroids, or the players on the other teams that were using a similar sign stealing system? If so, you are going to be pretty busy and need a lot of money for hospital bills.

Correa saved his feewings from getting hurt by getting booed at the All Star Game so now he feels OK to play.

    what a guy.

I don’t think anybody would have a problem with that scenario ….

Now the question is ” Why did he change the narrative at halftime?

It’s fairly obvious listening to Correa or Altuve interviews that you would want them as guests at your weekly poker game.

I mean seriously, go listen to their interviews given in the past 18 months. They provides more insight than any piece of text ever could. We often times rely too much on written text these days for info as its easy to digest and always readily available

You do realize that they’ve been getting booed at every road game right? It’s not like passing on the AS game means they avoided boos.

You can’t tell these idiots that. They simply don’t understand. Anyway, I hope they keep right on booing, yelling or whatever they want to do. The Astros seem the be thriving on it. I hope they boo and hiss is all the way to another title!

Personally, I think the MLB was part of the decision of them not going. It’s not good for your brand to have some of your top players boo’d for something that the sport let happen and decided to finally care about. Don’t blame Altuve and Correa for not caring about getting boo’d at a meaningless game when they could rest for a WS run and really get the internet trolls in their feelings.

I’m sure the fans in Denver have far more class than the ones in Anaheim so he didn’t have to worry about being booed that much.

Maybe with Trout and Ohtani the Angels will make the postseason again someday for the first time since 2014. Fingers crossed.

I had two wishes, last November, for in your face victories in this world; might get one of those this year. And the next, And the next. Then, hoping for both, again, the following year.
