Rockies Place Four Players On COVID-19 Injured List

By Anthony Franco | July 16, 2021 at 5:59pm CDT

The Rockies announced they’ve placed four players — Antonio Senzatela, Jhoulys Chacín, Yency Almonte and Yonathan Daza — on the COVID-19 injured list. Left-hander Ben Bowden, outfielder Sam Hilliard and righty Antonio Santos have been recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque, while reliever Zac Rosscup was selected to the major league roster. Additionally, manager Bud Black and first base coach Ron Gideon have been ruled out for tonight’s game against the Dodgers as part of contact tracing efforts.

Placement on the COVID-19 list does not signify that all four of the players involved have tested positive. Players can land on the IL for feeling viral symptoms or for exposure to the virus.

Rosscup was selected to the roster as a COVID replacement player. Under the 2021 health and safety protocols, he can be removed from the 40-man without being exposed to waivers upon the return of one of the players he’s been selected to replace. The 33-year-old southpaw has a 5.16 ERA/3.80 SIERA in parts of six big league seasons. He’s been almost unhittable this year in Triple-A, pitching to a 0.52 ERA over 17 1/3 frames with an excellent 37.3% strikeout rate.

Dumb…. I don’t understand why they still test these players everyday; UNLESS they’re exhibiting symptoms.. My daughter & her boyfriend both work in hospital in healthcare professions & neither of them get tested regularly unless they exhibit symptoms or start a new job..

Look I’m vaccinated & 2 of my adult children are vaccinated; my other 2 children are not.. As I stated, I have 2 very intelligent children in the healthcare industry (both vaccinated) and we’ve discussed this topic many times so despite your claims I am actually pretty educated on the subject..

I just find it interesting that to promote vacations we (& the cdc) use statistics that 99% of vaccinated people are protected from Covid (or at least shielded from serious illness if vaccinated).. Yet we dismiss the statistics that if you take out fat & old people roughly 99% of young healthy (I.e. athletes) are not that susceptible to ill effects from COVID, especially if they’re vaccinated as well.. My point is not even hospital and health care professionals are tested as much as athletes & at some point we need to move forward and only test when they have symptoms, kind of like our health professionals do…. But you go ahead & keep being narrow minded, dismissing statistics that don’t fit your narrative & call other people stupid..

Well you’re forgetting that non symptomatic people can still spread it. So you’re exposing your whole clubhouse.

Almost no chance of that happening.

        • Zerbs63

Everyone in the clubhouse is young which covid doesn’t effect like old people or people with conditions already. Come on people, people can still get the flu. Why don’t we test everyone for the flu too?

          Biggie
You may want to continue your education and look at the ages being hospitalized with the delta variant in the UK. A preview of things to come in the US especially in low vax states.

Point 2- MLB athletes travel city to city while your offspring in the healthcare system do not.

If they’ve been vaccinated, I don’t see the big issue, if they contact Covid the symptoms are usually less than non vaccinated. So they miss a week, not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. If it’s a false positive they miss a couple of games, no a big deal to be safe

Come on now, it makes total sense. We are trying to save a nation here. Seriously, there are plenty of jobs where people get tested every single day or after every public interaction. You know like: …major league baseball. Okay that might be the only one.

Healthcare, police, fire, EMS, military, and restaurant/service workers are not tested regularly. Due to the hourly nature of some of their pay, some aren’t tested at all.

If they’re vaccinated, that’s fine. The whole point of a vaccine that’s 99% effective at preventing death is to enable people to continuing life as normal, and not have to quarantine for 10 days every time they get a runny nose or are exposed to this virus.

Everyone has had a chance to get the vaccine other than under 12 year olds who are at a microscopically small risk of a bad outcome anyway. Therefore, there is literally no reason to change behavior to protect vaccinated people from a virus that won’t seriously harm them, or willingly unvaccinated people from a virus they don’t want protection from.

We appreciate your well thought out scientific research that has eliminated any risk of long COVID, passing the disease to immuno-compromised people, and those too you g to be vaccinated.

Testing positive for Covid only means you have been exposed. It’s not like they do a blood test. If you’ve been vaccinated and have no symptoms there is no reason to put on IL. Anyone could have the vaccine at this point, so those that didn’t made their choice. No reason to do all this testing.

It’s because asymptomatic people can spread the disease to others and get them very sick or even cause them to die. That’s why testing is still important, even if the players have been vaccinated.

That is not actually true. the CDC has said you can’t spread (or are extremely unlikely) COVID if not exhibiting symptoms… Your data is out of date or you’ve been watching too much fear mongering on cable news.

Americans are some of the most selfish people on earth. If MLB wasn’t so freaking greedy & All Star fans were A LOT more intelligent they would know not to pack a stadium with 5oK+ screaming drunk fans,
    PEOPLE ARE DYING!!

Any players that aren’t fully vaccinated need to stay home when your team plays the Jays.
