Astros To Activate Alex Bregman From Injured List

By Anthony Franco | August 24, 2021 at 10:59pm CDT

The Astros will reinstate star third baseman Alex Bregman from the injured list before tomorrow afternoon’s game against the Royals, manager Dusty Baker told reporters (including Mark Berman of Fox 26). It’ll be Bregman’s first game action in over two months, as the 27-year-old hasn’t played since straining his left quad on June 16.

Through 262 plate appearances, Bregman is hitting .275/.359/.428 with seven home runs. That’s not too dissimilar from the .242/.350/.451 mark he logged across 180 trips to the plate in last year’s shortened campaign. Obviously, Bregman’s output over the past two years falls well shy of the MVP-caliber form he showed in 2018-19. But he’s still been a well above-average performer since the start of 2020, and it seems reasonably plausible Bregman could find something resembling his past star-level form down the stretch.

The Astros’ win over Kansas City this evening pushed their lead in the American League West out to four and a half games over the Athletics. That’s a fairly comfortable margin, and Bregman’s return will only improve the club’s chances of holding onto that lead. Aledmys Díaz, who has mashed in Bregman’s stead over the past few weeks, figures to return to a super-utility role as a versatile, high-end bench bat whom Baker can deploy around the diamond.

Which cheaters are they coming for? The Athletics? Yankees? Orioles? Dodgers? Red Sox? Braves? Cardinals? Rangers? Or the probably 10-15 other teams that have had some form of sign stealing, steroid/HGH use, foreign substance, microphones etc.

Based on this comment, I’m curious who you “think” the non-cheating clubs are since you’ve called out up to 75% of the league as being cheaters.

Imagine thinking the only reason why the Astros won was because of the trash can only to watch as they continue to be successful. Man stupid people are stupid.

If they weren’t using the trash can to help them win, why did they use it? Please don’t tell me “acoustics”.

Cheating is for people who can’t do it without cheating, or are too lazy to do what it takes to do it on their own merits.

Clearly they have good players, and have had for sometime now. They continue to be a solid team. That said, the “they cheated” comments will NEVER end because they won a title that year. If they had finished in 2nd place, or bounced in the first round, you probably wouldn’t even hear about it anymore. The reality is, there IS evidence they cheated in 2017 (what anyone’s definition of cheating is anymore, is a whole other story), and some fans are just never gonna let it go. If you are an Astros fan, I’m sure for all the noise they’ve had to hear, that fall was still an amazing time, and they will always celebrate that title….as they should. Lastly, one thing that I also think doesn’t help their cases as far as people “moving on”, is that the players were not punished in any way. They were actually pretty arrogant about it. If you’re just a casual fan, or anything other than an Astros fan frankly, players like Bregman & Correa, are just not that likable. Sorry to go all blog on your comment. Just one baseball fan’s take. Personally, some of the Astros comments are funny, but they are mostly tired, recycled jokes at this point. I’m kinda over even hearing about it. Best thing the Astros can do for themselves…….is go win another title. Then they can tell everyone to shove it up their southholes.

The players had immunity. Otherwise not one of them would have talked.

And how many of those other teams players served a suspension after getting caught cheating , hgh/steroids, or foreign substances or assault charges? Almost all them served a suspension of some kind. Those players did their time and what about the astros players did they served any suspension when they admit to it? Or the Red Sox players in 2018?

Didn’t Seattle just have someone get busted for sticky stuff on his glove and then get caught juicing?

Al playoffs should be very interesting this year. I really believe the White Sox Astros Yankees and Rays all have an equal chance to advance to the World Series this year. I do not put Boston in the class of the other teams I believe they are a step down in quality. Do you guys agree?

Damn. I thought his IL status worked perfectly with Charlie Watts passing. The Rolling Stones could have used Bregman as part of an interim drummer rotation until a permanent replacement was found.
